Anyone else think that the graphic looks broke? It used to be so awesome, with a red and a blue shift. I thought I noticed it getting less promininent with the last patch, and now with this one it's gone totally!
That was one of the best things about the graphics, the colour shifting was brilliant!!! They should have taken it further, so ships wityh a faster warp speed create a greater shift.
Does this mean EVE will be dumbed down in other ways?

I like the new graphic. The old one made it seem as if there were some tunnel in space that you were flying through. That said, with the addition of wormholes it was probably a wise change. --------------------------------------

It's not your settings. I tried several options. I occasionally think I'm seeing the shifts, but then I realise I'm just flying from red coloured space towards blue coloured.
It is in sync with the other graphics changes, but to be honest I don't think they are all necessarily a step forwards.
I like almost every other graphics change I've seen (webbing looks a bit gay) but this one just doesn't feel as good as it used to be.

Originally by: Vorlich Dreculia It used to be so awesome, with a red and a blue shift.
The red and blue shifting is still there, just VERY subdued. In fact, that seems to be the main theme of the graphic changes, they're VERY subtle now, except a few, like POS shields.
I don't mind so much. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

It shouldnt be unless your in the last 10 seconds of your warp.
Have you restarted your client after turning graphics up?
Hit optimize and set it for quality, then make sure you turn everything on, n restart your client.

You may want to try redownloading the client and reinstalling, then making sure you got your graphics optimized for quality.

I like the new effect, I just wish they'd kept the shake from the old warp... just felt a bit more violent instead of the peaceful way of being hurled from nothing to a gazillion miles per hour in a few seconds

Please bring back the old warping effect.
Warping used to have a satisfying feel to it. Even though it did sound like you were breaking the sound barrier, it still gave a very positive reinforcement that something was happening.
The sound, the shaking, the tunnel -- bring it all back, please :)

New warp effect feels way too sterile, the old one made it feel like you were ripping across space and time with a massive, deadly vessel.
The new one is at best boring and at worst creates the impression you're not even moving.

Totally agree! End of warp always has me wondering "are we done what! oh..." - not an improvement that way. Also we need an "in station" sound level control. As it stands, there is no way to keep things level without using the SVM feature on my card which has a negative affect on a variety of ambient effects in the game.
Please fix this - thx

Edited by: Neo Omni on 12/03/2009 00:47:32 The red and blue shift was actually (in the world of physics) correct. As one approaches the speed of light, everything before you will appear blue while everything behind you will appear red. The faster, the more intense the effect. This is the electromagnetic radiation equivalent of the screaming train running past you. High pitched as it approaches, followed by low pitch as it passes.
Anyway, that is the one thing I liked about the warp in this game, now I don't like it. It looks like I'm flying thru water or something.
I know EVE isnt real life, but it would be nice if they stuck with real life physics.
There are other optical aberrations involved in close to light speed travel...maybe the Dev team will look into it someday. Just open a textbook on Einstein's Relativity.

Seriously, bring back the old one.At least make it optional. You brought out a good patch and people are having fun. It's not so bad to admit once in a while some bad moves and listen to your playerbase.Warping is the most comon action in EVE and now its less attractive. Many newbies quit this game out of bordom and i think this is one more step towards it. It should be the other way around, but the non-shaking warp makes me sick.

Here is the rub - people do quit out of boredom, but *not* because of some pointless graphical effect that has been taken out, People quick because of Pos-Snorefare (PVP Players) or lack of exciting missions (PVE Players).
That is what needs fixing

Camera shake needs to come back, no question. I think warping is totally weak without it.
Didn't like it? You could turn it off. I liked it, and I have no option to turn it back on.
If they wanted to do away with it, they could have at least changed camera shake to "off by default". I mean who would have a problem with that?
Way to "fix" something that worked just fine.

I totally agree with the OP. I find the new warp effect both very very ugly (like if I look at the "watery effect" it just looks like a pile of edgy black-o-transparent shapes forming around my ship) and gameplay experience-reducing because for some strange reason it causes my client to drop from 80 to under 20 fps the second I click warp (still can't figure out that one)
So for me it's very very annoying :(

It's very meh and the lack of any sense of motion is awful. There really is no easy visual clue that you're coming out of warp. You're just in this watery, blurred bubble and then bam, you're at your destination.
I really miss the violent shake of the last warp graphic as you could easily tell when the tunnel was breaking down.

I'm glad I'm not alone in my frustration here. I feel like my warp has been totally neutered. It went from pit bull to rat dog. Peterbilt to Hyundai. The old sound effect, that's been around since I played Eve in beta, was visceral. Coupled with the camera shake (that you could turn off if it bothered you) it gave you the sense that you were a part of something powerful, that this was a truly awesome machine at your command. Now it's like riding the elevator. Not only that, but the graphic effects now look kinda half-assed.
Given how much time we spend warping from place to place in Eve, I'm truly sorry about these changes. Most of the other changes, I'm psyched about. But these seemingly small (and to some, insignificant) changes are really for the worse. Here's hoping we can reach some compromise.

Agree with majority of posters here. Much of the new patch is really good, or will be really good, but we need a sense of motion back in the warp.
Considering how much time we spend in warp, and how easy it might be to give us the *option* to have some camera shake and power back, I hope the development team will grant us this small relief in the sure to be upcoming patch. |

Heh, actually I have the same problem with the motion issue. This isn't the only MMO I play (I play EQ2 as well), if I go from one of my main chars with 50% run speed to a lowbie with no run speed, I get nauseous (not full on sick, but slightly dizzyish) pretty quick from the fast to slow, I feel like I'm moving in molasses.
Unfortunately the new warp graphic does just that to me, it feels like I'm barely moving and I've had to take regular breaks playing, especially doing courier missions. I like the new jump gate graphic, but I really would like to see the old warp-tunnel effect back, or at least a toggle for it. It felt like I was moving fast and tearing through space, not a leisurely stroll. It was also obvious when you were at the end of your warp, the tunnel would disappear and you'd be there. I can barely tell when I've arrived at my destination now.

New warping graphics need tweaking but I like the style, just a bit too wet. What I really hate is the lack of camera shake, warping without it feels gimped. It's an option, you can disable it, give it back. However, when you select the camera shake option in the settings menu, it still mentions warping, so I hope it's a bug.

Hate the new warp effect, traveling in Eve is boring as hell, so I never look at the space while I travle, I always take the time to check market, email etc... Before the patch due to the shaking I know when the warp is coming to a end and when it ends. Now, there is no sound, so shake, making life very very hard, as if there is something interesting that I have to check out in warp. Worst chance EVER.

I've noticed that the watery effect of the new tunnel seems to be accentuated when viewed against areas of background with high contrast, but it's not so bad when viewed against a background that looks similar in every direction. The old one seemed to be the same faint blue no matter where you went, which was fine.
In contrast the new doppler effect looks like a ugly blob of pastel blue in front and a similarly horrible pink effect behind, whereas in Classic it seemed much more like a true shift depending on the existing system background, i.e. when warping in a predominantly red system, the colour in front wasn't necessarily blue, just "less red".
Also, bring back the camera shake as well please, kthx.

Agreed, the warp effect is very dependant on the background colour of the system you're in now.
For some of them it blends into the sky colour a bit and I find it almost tolerable, for others it's really in your face.
if you disagree with me then you should probably post a response and stop reading my signature. |

I do like new stargate jumps -both animation and sound, they are very well done and much better than before. But warp effect is really weak! Besides other things mentioned, I wonder what happened with that cool background image distortion when looking aside?
And let's not forget the cyno it's totally ****** up

That was one of the best things about the graphics, the colour shifting was brilliant!!! They should have taken it further, so ships wityh a faster warp speed create a greater shift.
Does this mean EVE will be dumbed down in other ways?
Apart form the godawful pixellation its pretty awesome once then they fix the pixellation it'll be omgbqqawesome
