Ooooooooh, not to mention that all current people on the overview now gets frozen in place while ctrl is held down, And new ones are added at the bottom without moving the ones already there
Stupid idea, as most people who aren't stupid call primaries based on ship types rather than player names.

Hmm.. seems alot of people just dont like change?
I like the new fitting screen its awesome.. still need to get used to it but it will come :) I love change.. it keeps the game fresh.
But yeah some annoying little thing needs to get fixed like the market window that moves up everytime you change a tab.

I like the fitting screen just have to get used to it.
As for fleet battles I have always used the overview and sorted it by ship type.

So the TL/DR version is: We don't like 2002 interfaces in 2009 games, and stop removing functionality.
The UI improvements over the years have been alright, but they're patches on a broken ship ready to sink. There is a lot of information in EVE, and the UI only does a passable job of making the correct information easily available to the player.

This is a little insulting to be honnest, players have been telling CCP most of these things since the various functions where implemented. The thing is that CCP's road map and things that are planned to be fixed keep being moved around based on new functionality being rolled out. I'll give you a few examples: - Commets (planned since beta at least) - System wide astroid belts (planned since beta at least) - Ability to sell from containers (been asked for since alpha) - Peoples and places improvements (been asked for since alpha) - Useless star map (been complained about since it was introduced) - Lousy new fitting window (been complained about since it was on Sisi)
I have been playing EVE for quite a few years now, and after every major update CCP claims to listen to their users and improve things, but many of the things asked for are ignored or bumped so far down the list in favor of new stuff that they will simply never happen. Maybe CCP would do good to add to the priority list a date at which various things made the list. Things that have been there more then two years should be bumped up or removed. Also this priority list should be public knowledge. Make it a voting system for players, giving them the option to bump idea up or down thus giving you a real idea of what players want rather then you having to listen to a few players that whine more then others.
Over all EVE still is a great game but the lack of transperency and the fact that some things seem to never ever be resolved because new stuff gets priority is likely the biggest frustration of any EVE player. ------------------------------------------- Should you disagree with me, well I guess that is because I disagree with you. If you have a problem with that please feel free not to tell me. |

CCP should hire me and put me in charge of tasking and vetting changes. I've a good idea of what gamers like in an interface, and what would/should be implemented or changed.
Also, +1 to the OP for using shambolic.

Ive been trying this game for a month every half year for 6 years now and seen all the improvements over time and must say i wouldnt even play the game anymore or would be arsed to try it if things where pretty much the same. The interface has made great improvements so have the graphics. But i think they havent released that much content over the last past years. Theres room for more imo :)

How about CCP skipped the obligatory half year patch and consolidated on all current features and game mechanics. Give the WIS teams an extra half year (instead of rushing in yet another buggy patch). Scram your way through all the broken stuff that's out there and boil down on the issues your customers come up with.
Think of it as cleaning your fridge and throw out the old stuff thats overdue so you can fill it with more beer.

Posting in a thread supporting a valid cause. I agree especially on the fitting screen... it's so over the top it and it's terribly obvious functionality wasn't a primary concern. If you have to have circular indicators for CPU and Grid usage, please let at least the entire circle be 100%. Nothing was wrong with the old fitting screen, except that you couldn't check your resistances with active hardeners. Has that been added? Meeeh....

This would seem like a very wise thing to do. Am I right in thinking that walking in stations is planned at the normal major patch date in August? Rather than another rush job, spend some time fixing what we already have!
I don't want CCP to get upset reading this thread. The fact is, we still love this game of yours, and overall the release has lots of great new stuff! It's just you let yourselves down massively with poor implimentation. We wouldn't complain so much if we didn't love you CCP! We just wish you'd spend more time polishing what is there already, and really showing that you are listening to us. A whole new UI system that is consistant, easy to use and incorperates EVERYTHING seemlessly, wouldn't be a bad move.

Map: No more button on the map to close/change; being forced to use the control panel to do so... Map: colors too dim (pilots in space...) Map: can't click on some systems while in Flat mode as the pointer selects some other system (already sent in bug and feedback on other thread with these and other problems) Map: Right click no longer functioning on solar system as said
The UI needs total overhaul, and customizable like XML in EQ II with UI mods.
Being unable to move the targeting "window" because it is lazily attached where the Selected Items window is (it doesn't aways stay put either) is a big fail. Being unable to resize or move the bottom panel is confining.
I have only played EQ, EQ II, and LOTRO fro MMOs, and out of those three, EQ II comes first in UI, then from what I remember, EQ, then LOTRO (as LOTRO has limited UI functionality with resize and move around, but the bottom panel is stuck like Eve's).

I agree that the ui really needs some help. There are soo many annoyances in that. CCP has been promising ui improvements for ages, but what if the other ui improvements will be like the fitting screen?
And this always happens with new expansions: bugs bugs and lag.

Obviously NOT Apple as we'll then have to play the game through a non standard shiny silver single click-wheel that retails for $500.
I have to say in the three years+ I've been playing it has rarely improved.

So ... are there people at CCP who like the new map / find it as good as or better than the old one?
Same with the directional scanner.

Originally by: Danivon We all love the game but the UI is dysfunctional and I'm sorry to say the entire 3D engine is junk. With each new release of hardware its becoming more and more apparent. Stop adding shiny stuff until you rewrite the engine.
I agree that parts of the UI are not as good as they should be, but to describe the entire UI as "dysfunctional" is a clear exageration; you are actually able to play the game with it (which is its function).
They have re-written the Engine. It is called Trinity, and they have only just finished the final rollout of content for it, and retired the old engine.
So please say, what about the Engine is junk? And what do you mean by "with each new release of hardware its becoming more and more apparent"? Surely, with upgraded hardware, the engine will run smoother and look better?

Out of the OP.
All were pretty good points.
Little harsh on the new fitting screen.
Some parts probably not workable, e.g selling stuff in containers probably can't be done withoout turning the current build inside out.
Overall though very good points.

As a "newer" pirate, I miss the ability to right-click a ship-type from the directional scanner. I do not know the class of all the ship names yet, so it made it easy for me to see whether or not I wanted to track that ship or leave it alone. I now have to open the market window and search for the ship to get this information.
Please bring this back.

I wish they would add 1 button to remove ALL ammo at once. I hate having to right click each launcher in space or use that tiny little circle on the new fitting window.
Why can't we just have a button to remove ammo.

Totally agree with this topic. Been playing Eve since Trinity and even in that short time have seen CCP put more effort into NEW unnecessary content than into improving the content they already have. I would like to see a topic like this raised by the OP not in the Apocrypha thread but in Assembly Hall. A redesign of the whole UI is really needed to draw in and keep more players. The NEW new player experience is a HUGE step in the right direction, it is much more informative and all if you take the time to read the tiny print for tutorials. Wish they would have brought in a new voice to read for you as I have tried to get many new players to play the game and seen them just skip right through these long reading sessions.
Not to mention CCP should take note of ZeroPunctuation's review about how its like looking through a fishbowl when you play, and you can't GTFO out when you are going to die because of all the stupid context menus. I manage to get along but I know majority people I know who tried EvE, didn't pick it up based on how bad the interface is not because you give them a recolored shuttle in a box or wormholes.

Totally agree that the UI needs an overhaul. It's a patched together shambolic () mess. I think they could dedicate and entire expansion to a new UI.
Here's my list of UI wants: - Ability to save window layouts - Ability to save overview settings - now added I believe. - 2 monitor support (if any game needs it this is it) - Improve space efficiency of windows, especially if you insist on only 1 monitor support. The game is beautiful but I can't see it because of all the windows. - More tabs. 5 tab limit is ridiculous. If you can't do this allow us to save 5 tab sets. - Ability to add a 'benchmark' quantity per column, and when the numbers exceed that value the cell changes colour. eg. set rad/sec column quantity to your guns rad/sec, so cells change colour when your targets exceed your guns rad/sec. - Ability to disable above for all but targeted - Ability to filter in the overview not just ship types, but all ships. Eg not just cruisers, but Vexor, Rupture etc - Ability to filter sun - More than one default orbit - Infinite customability of all aspects of the UI.
These are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there's plenty more.
Please improve the UI. Ship fit is a good start but even that is missing a lot of essential information - why didn't you just buy EFT?

-The fitting screen needs to NOT be circular in design. Also the icons for all the rigs, mods, etc. got smaller which makes little to no sense considering the fitting screen is way larger then the original.
-Let us have filters or create folders (as well as name them) in our hangers. That way people don't have to sift through hundreds of different things looking for one specific item.
----
Things I'm REALLY happy that have been added are the ability to stack weapons. Thanks CCP.
----
I think this was brought up previously in this thread, and it really doesn't have to do with the game's U.I, but part of the game's function. Autopilot should warp to 0. This would save me so much time... everyone so much time actually.

Sup dawg, we made a new fitting window so you can look at your ship while you look at your ship.
But do we really need to see it in two different places at once?
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Originally by: The Cuckoo Sent this as feedback, but would like other people's opinions.
- You've removed the ability to toggle between maps with the ctrl+mousewheel. WHY OH WHY DID YOU DO THIS? Just another pointless removal of something useful, which makes life just that little harder when you want to do things quickly.
This was one of hte most annoying things in the game when trying to do anything while talking on voice comms as 99% of people use Ctrl and also want to be able to change veiw on their ship.
Originally by: The Cuckoo
- Probes! Their bubbles no longer change size depending on perspective, instead we've now got some daft shadow system instead. This makes it impossible to tell which is closer or further away on the system map! This is a 3D game is it not? Why on Earth was it done this way? The probe symbols themselves are excessively massive, and it's far too easy to click on entirely the wrong thing, and end up resizing a bubble by mistake, and you can't even do that when the text is behind it. AND WHY OH WHY do we get all these different looking results depending on how many probes find a signal, just extra pointless complications!
I like the new graphics for each type of hit wth the probes, just seems right somehow.
Originally by: The Cuckoo
- The new fitting screen! - The perfect example of 'Style over functionality'. It is undoubtedly a lot prettier, but does FAR LESS! You can no longer simply drop mods onto the ship and they automatically fit into their slot. You can't quickly double click on the ship to open the cargo. Over all, it's just not as liner and simple as it was, it's less easier to quickly scan over what your fitting looks like and what your grid and CPU are doing. And we still can't check the fitting of another ship without making it active! This is just another old time-waster!
i've been double clicking on the ship to get cargo, or at least just some random place in the station environment, so i see no change here. You just need to get used to where each thing is as its now moved, the new fitting screen IMO is a massive improvement over the old one, and the ability to save and share fittings alone makes it worthwhile. Oh, and you can never have enough ways to spin your ship.
Originally by: The Cuckoo
- The people and places window is in DIRE NEED of a revamp, yet you chose to fix the fitting screen, which was never broke in the first place! You can't move Bookmarks out of a folder once they are in it. There is no sensible order to Bookmarks that you make and DON'T put into a folder. When you're in space and you right click empty space to retrieve a bookmark, you have to navigate more unnecessary sub-menus for the folder to get to them. This is especially frustrating when you're trying to find one quickly.
BMs are ordered aplphabetically, and once this is know, quite easy to take advantage of.
I removed things i either agree with or don't really care about as i was running out of space to type.
Overall there are a number of things that could of done with an update, however, with the amount of new content added, you can't really argue. and hey, we do need new content every now and then.
But i do think a series of small UI patches would be a good idea to keep things running smoothly.
