Rocking him in a Cara right now 2 week old char, kiteing him at 10km and my shield regens quicker than his dps with 1 meta 2 invul field (no shield recharge boosting mods, no booster etc). Still tanking loads but should be able to blow him up within 5 or so launcher emptys... afk

I picked the Amarr agent, got Minmi ships as opponents and Dagan didn't use neuts on me, only a target painter. I used a Jaguar orbiting at 1500 m, was really too easy.

Just Killed Dagan in my unskilled catalyst. Had 6 Anode Light Neutron Particle canon 1s with std Antimater & a Hobgoblin drone for distraction (it didn't). Orbit at 500m (actually tightest turning seems to be ~950m) and blasted away have a capacitor recharge rate rig so can just about go indef. Had a small shield booster to keep me going with on-off activation. Takes an age to get the shields down but got him in the end, stil the guns cost more than the reward!

OP, I know the problem you're having - as I had it myself when I fought Dagan.
Basically, on the mission before where it offers you the choice of what race agent you want to talk to? Where you undoubtedly picked the gallente agent (Brus) as that's what race you are? Yeah, that was the mistake. I've not verified it, but some corp mates have since told me that whatever race agent you pick, Dagan will have very high resistances to that Race's common damage type (Thermal and Kinetic for gallente I believe), and so can tank your shots with relative ease.
Basically, you're probably going to have to get help, like I did.

Edited by: Starlight Twilight on 12/12/2010 05:16:01 i couldn't solo dagan in my destroyer, i had to ask a friend in, he brought a battleship which took about 2 minutes of repeatedly shooting dagan in the face before he died. find someone to shoot dagan if the guy takes the loot and runs, you will have to repeat the entire arc edit: when i fought dagan i chose amarr and he had a jove ship D:

I dropped him in a cormorant back in my first 2 weeks.
Had to play with it a little, but ti was a proper newbie setup, mids & lows would've been crap.
I recall I killed him by putting as many high caliber blasters with a hull full of AM ammunition and going at hime. I took one blaster off replacing with a NOS at a time to counter his neuting.
Iirc, I ended up with 3 NOS, 5 blasters, about half an hour and thousands of spent rounds.
Did it alone though. I imagine knowing what I do now, a proper fit and not haphazardly allocating skills, he'd be a cakewalk.

Man what a difference a proper fit makes, went from everything bouncing off 4X malkuth assault launchers with torrents and not being able to get through that shield tank, I picked the caldari's as my friends. He was in a angel cartel cruiser. Basically stalemate with me not getting through his shields and me shield boosting back up. Fixed it with terror assault missiles and a status webifer with ballistic control systems. Orbited at 500m with webifer on. His vamp stuff didn't touch my cap in any meaningful way. Proceeded to run through one reload on all the malkuths, then popped him on the second ammo run through. I am so happy right now, popped him so easy with the advice I got from here.

Edited by: Reaver Glitterstim on 30/12/2010 03:25:05 I beat Dagan pretty easily in a thrasher and t1 autocannons, no drones. I had very crappy gunnery skills across the board, with less than a week in total SP in that whole category.
The trick for taking his damage indefinitely is to use a shield or armor hardener for his main damage type (I forget what it is); and the secret to killing him is to use explosive damage. I'f you're flying Gallente or Amarr, you might have trouble getting some explosive damage. But if all else fails, you can just train Minmatar frigate high enough to fly a thrasher, or just put some autocannons in your turret slots, and load up with fusion ammo.
Come to think of it, I actually flew close to Dagan and orbited him with an afterburner on, and he couldn't hit me. But I'm sure the other method works too.

It took me a couple of tries to kill him. My arty rupture didnt have the DPS, and so I switched to autocannons. That was also taking forever, until I switched to EMP ammo, which took his shields down faster.

Newbies don't despair ... I just killed him (on day 11 of my eve career with a whopping 527,121 skill points).
I was using a Republic Fleet Firetail frigate armed with just 2 200mm Auto Cannon I's. Had to use Republic Fleet Fusion S to out dps his regen, and it wasn't particularly quick, but just orbiting at 1k eventually took him out.

Hello
I just killed Dagan solo today in a t1 Gallente frig ("fat boy") fitted out with 2 t2 (ion) blasters and using "Void" advanced ammo (ran out near the end and had to swtich to "Null") also using t1 rockets ('bloodclaw' and i can't remember the name of the other (basically EM/kinetic damage tho) and one drone)
the trick was to kill off this escorts, and then return to finish him off - basically i speed-tanked the 'fat boy' fitting a cold jet, warp overdrive, and using a gallente weapons upgrade (forget the name of it, i'm still pretty much a newb)
anyway it was a tough brawl and i didn't get the bonus prize but @ least i finished the quest (tho it was a money loser - i probably spent 100k for the ammo lol
fly safe,

7th day into Eve with my first character, 405,200 Skill Points (with 100k of those being non-combat related), killed him in a Caldari Caracal Cruiser, 5x "Malkuth" Assault Missile Launcher I's firing Piranah Missiles and an afterburner... also had a silly Warrior I drone doing 5 damage.
Killed adds, then kept him at 17km (he couldnt hit me) and used a ton of ammo... I think I had to reload 6 times because I was going AFK and his shield would recharge if I didnt get my guns going soon after reloading.

Dagan is there to teach noobs about damage types I think. It's very, very hard to kill him using the wrong one. What he tanks depends very much on what faction you decide to fight for and thus the damage type you need to deliver likewise depends on who you fight for. Do some google searching for the epic walkthrough and/or use the survival guide.

I don't buy this because I'm using the right damage type and it's still pretty impossible. Had to get a corp mate to come DPS the guy for me, epic fail.

I think the point of Dagan is to get people to band together with others. After I dropped him, I stayed around helping people for a while and I really got the sense that interacting and joining with others was kind of the idea behind the encounter. He put... creatures... in our bodies... to control our minds. He made us... say lies... do things. |

A lot of friends had problems killing him when they were a week or two into the game. I had to fly all the way out from Lonetrek to provide firepower. I solo'd Dagan in a Hawk some time back, it was indeed ridiculously tough as he was constantly shield boosting. Wasted hundreds of CN Thorns until he popped. Didn't take that much damage from his guns though, possibly due to orbiting at 2.5km with AB. Another time I helped a friend with an Arbitrator and a batch of Vespa II's, he went down in short order.

Dunno if it was mentioned but find his shield resistance hole. He is valnurable to one type of resistance depended onr ace chosen. It will help a lot. |

In case it helps anyone else I just (finally) beat him with this fit, which is relatively cheap and easy on skills:
[Coercer, Anti-Dagan Coercer] Damage Control I Tracking Enhancer I Small Armor Repairer I Overdrive Injector System I
Tracking Disruptor I
Dual Anode Light Particle Stream I, Gamma S Dual Anode Light Particle Stream I, Gamma S Dual Anode Light Particle Stream I, Gamma S Dual Anode Light Particle Stream I, Gamma S Dual Anode Light Particle Stream I, Gamma S Dual Anode Light Particle Stream I, Gamma S [empty high slot] [empty high slot]
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
When given the choice of commanders, I chose the Minmatar one. Then it was just a matter of orbiting him at about 17km and firing all lasers.

I have 1.2m SP and I have solo'd Dagan in a Rifter: 3x150s, 1xRocket Launcher, AB, Web, 3xGyro's.
Pick the correct damage type and orbit at 1000m. Keep a web on him to increase damage.
It takes a while, but it does work IF you have the correct damage type.

Edited by: PewPew Laz0rs on 18/08/2011 04:15:24 Because of the path I chose (Minmatar), Dagan was in an Angel class ship so he was weak to Explosive/Kinetic damage.
And depending on what path you choose, he'll have different weaknesses depending on the ship he's flying. Here is a list of what he will be WEAK to:
Guristas - Kinetic Serpentis - Thermal Mordus - Thermal // Kinetic Blood - EM // Thermal Sansha - EM // Thermal Angel - Expl
Quickly I realised I couldn't beat him in my Frigate, my DPS wasn't high enough to outdamage his shield. I'd loaded up 3x150mm Light Autocannons with Fusion Ammo, a Standard Missile Launcher with Pirhana missiles and kept him webbed with my Stais Webifier, and although his shield dropped a bit, I could hear the trololol from inside his cabin as I barely got him down to half shields.
So - there's no problem more turrets can't fix - so I went and bought a destroyer class ship (a Thrasher). I tried again with 7x200mm Autocannon I, Fusion ammo, Missiles and 1x Gyrostabler, and although I got him down to hull(!) I still couldn't crack him after 5-10mins.
Sooooo I upgraded my weapons a notch. I bought 7x Gallium Machine gun and I added a second Gyrostabaliser for extra pew. After cruising out there, he popped in 2 minutes.
The million I got for the mission reward barely covered my expenses :P But it was fun
