Why does CCP favor Armor tanking moreover than shield tanking ?
Can anyone give a reasonable explanation for this one ? Or are we still waiting for CCP to nerf armor tanking at some point yet to come ? |

You can put a Medium Shield booster on a frigate and indy, you can put a large shield booster on a cruiser.
But you can only put small armor repairs on frigates and industrials, and only small and mediums on cruisers.
So for battleships maybe armor tanking is favored, but all the other classes you cannot armor tank like you can in a battleship. I think it sucks having to shield tank an industrial since it has so much more armor than shields. I haven't tried the new and improved small armor repairs yet though.

Cap/s issue is dealth with in tech 2 items :) CCP are doing a good job but some tweeking here and there is allways possible.
See Ca0 Ca0's thread about increased shield recharge rate, might be a way to tweak things a bit

armor is best if you want to fully tank, with 5 slots i.e. but if you want to spend only 3 or 4 slots on damage-compensating, shields are far better. just fit a XL SB and 2 hardeners and you are done. most probably can't maintain boosting forever, but for many situations this is not needed anyway. you can take a lot of damage for a short time and need only 3 slots for it. armortanks can't do that.

For one thing, shield tanking ships have twice the hp.
If you're shield-tanking you still have some margin once your shields are gone. Armor tanks are in deep **** once something gets through.

Well shield tankers do have the buffer before they start their defence but I guess I see your point I do feel a bit uncomfortable knowing that once the armor is gone there is only the unhardened hull left to protect my crew (Dust always gets away in his pod ).
However armor tankers do have the added benefit in that their buffer recharges although very slowly.
The reason CCP seems to favor armor tanking that for the majority of the time that EVE has been running successful armor tanking has been at best silly way to protect your ship. When they took actions to fix this they may have overshot a tad. __________ Capacitor research |

Its fairly simple.
Shield has armor as a failsafe, armour tanking has zero-failsafe.
You drop a cycle on shield tanking, you lose a little chunk of armor. You drop a cycle on armor, your losing structure. Depending on what part of the fight your in, death follows swiftly.

And Armour Tanks has the buffer Zone of shielding.....

I dont think they have a problem with shield tanking.. Just a problem with uber/infinite recharge/shield boost along with still being able to do max damage.
