old ppl already have an advantage ....... by having "large NAME guns" lvl 5 (fine! they erned it) but the little guys ....... well they need to do a "year" of skilling to get to T2 guns ...... WTF is that ?? you want the little guys to play for a trial period - mine veld - realise that there is NO WAY they can do anything in that game (exept mine F**CKing roids) and live?

New guys already got some extra means to catch up quicker.
And dont forget that the old guys will need 3 months to be able to use these as well _______________________________________________

I only hope that CCP take a firm line when balancing because specialization means harly anyone will have a backup ship/turret trained to fall back on should a ship suddenylg et nerfed...

Also remember EVE is pretty cool in that the old timers are not indestructible machines like some MMOG systems are. In other MMOG if you want to kill a L-50 fighter you had better be close to L-50 yourself. 100 L-5 characters wouldn;t stand a chance.
In EVE certainly an older player has advantages but it is not too hard for clever playing and teamwork to take down a senior player. A half dozen Vigil tacklers even with less than a mil skillpoints will still give a 15 mil SP lone battleship pilot real cause for concern.

I played for about 8 months with my WhiteDwarf character before creating this one...
I told myself I would specialize, therefore I only fly Min ships & use projectile weapons...
I like the way CCP is headed with this, I just hope they can get the balance to be correct as Josh says... ------------------------------------------------ "for piece sakes!" |

No doubt this thread will be locked but anyway...
The skill training system in Eve has been here long enough, it works fine, newer players can specialise in gunnery or missile skills if they want to use tech 2 guns sooner, if they want to be able to do everything then they aren't going to be able to use the most cutting edge technology, so what?
Also all the "year" old players arent suddenly going to be flying around kitted out with tech 2 guns or launchers, because A)The BPO's are as rare as all the other tech 2 blueprints B)The owner's of any originals aren't apparently keen on selling copies(probably a good thing) C)When someone does build the tech 2 gun of your choice it will be sold at an insanely high cost, if you want to buy on market or escrow, not to mention tech 2 ammo.....
Tech 2 stuff isn't, and probably won't be for a LONG time, a necessity to survive and progress in this game, so ummm calm down.

Where would the fun be if you could use/afford Tech 2 Gear in 2 weeks. Remember the thing that makes the game fun is having something to strive for. If we all had the best stuff in a month or so we would be all bored and quit.
Give it time, you will get there... and you will enjoy it that much more when you do

I dont know what you like to do, but im fairly new Eve only been around for a couple months..and I don't mine roids. I spend most of my time hanging around 0.0 shooting at people for fun and I only have about 1 mill skill points. I quite often beat people who have been playing much longer.
If you want a game thats easy go play Horizons or something. But stop whining on the forums.

Not exactly true Rod,
It will take me a little over a month to speciale both in projectiles and hybrids.
I allready have all the other skills.
What is worrying me, is the lag on response on the clone situation, when will we see new clones, so we can speciliaze further.
the new skills doenst take so long with implants and good attributes. So Say I. Einheriar Ulrich of the Bloodline of Einheriar.

"Few months" if beyond that 14 day trial. Many new people who will be trying a 14 day trial will be stuck to mining, which is boring, and in turn will be turned off by it. --------------

Back in my day...
We didnt have implants, agent missions, any npc's with bounties over 85k or miner2's.
Took me over a week in a bantam to mine enough to buy a Merlin, which was bought from NPC's at NPC prices cause no players were building them yet.
We had pirates trying to gank us at the gates in every 0.4 and lower system because the sentries wouldnt shoot them.
Damn kids got it too easy now, when I was your age, I had to fly 10 jumps uphill in a blinding snowstorm with no shoes to buy skills....NO SHOES! We didnt even have clones back then neither, so if you got podded you were f'd. NO SHOES I tell ya!

Honestly you got to be joking right?
As with ANY MMORG time is the key to success. All RPG, frankly are all geared to keep you playing as long as possible. The longer you play the more rewards you get. If you could come in and use Tech2 gear in 2 weeks then anyone that has been playing this game more then six months would probably be so bored they would have quit by now. (Something all us old timers have been *****ing about for months now anyway....LOL)
Just a couple points that since you are new you may not realize:
1) You have a big advantage over most players that have been here since launch. Why? Because when we started there was not 800 pages in the Skills forum telling you how to train your character up quickly. Example I have 2 accounts, my original character Hanse was built one the age old RPG premise that average attributes across the board are better then 2 or 3 super attributes. When I built my second character I built him with extremely high Perception and Intelligence. Now 3 months in and he has exactly 1/2 of my primary characters skill points and my primary character is over a year old...
2) Frigates are a lot more useful now then when we started playing. An a lot cheaper to buy, I remember when Merlins, Probes, Kestrals, and Rifters were 300K or more. I remember when 10mil for a cruiser was killer of a deal.
I could go on and on, but trust me, new characters are not at a disadvantage. Unless you only plan on playing for the 2 week trial..... 2005.01.21 05:09:06combatYour Tachyon Beam Laser I perfectly strikes Blood Priest, wrecking for 533.1 damage. |

Eeyore, what your saying comes down to ( and yes I'm doing the good old MMOG compairing thing ) is that someone that just started playing any other MMORPG that doesn't wield the uber sword of super l33tness can't play, or if he does play he doesn't get much from playing. This doesn't hold true for any MMORPG, and it most definitly ain't true for EVE. You won't be as effective as that 2 year old vet, but that 2 year old vet has earned the right to be more effective then you, that's how it works. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

God, the way some people *****, whine and complain about EVERYTHING in the F****ng game!
Everyone here was TOLD that all the skills would be going to specialization MONTHS ago!! I am a military guy by brand. Am I looking forward to spending all this time training. Honestly, hell no. But am I glad that they finally implemented a choose a path and one or two path only scenarios, you damn well bet! Everyone is this game will be taking different routes with their characters. So after a bit of time, everyone will be better at something DIFFERENT than the next clone all the whiners here want to make it. This isn;t SWG. This isn't EQ. This isn't NWN. This is Eve. A game that has already broken a lot of MMORPG barriers and by MAKING you choose a path to take, and not be a damn all-skill maxed clone character like every other POS game out there, they break another barrier. Actually making people work together if they want to excell at something as a whole.
I'm sorry if you don't like having to specialize. Guess what. You don't have to. Just don't train it. That is entirely up to you and your choice. But a hell of a lot of people in this game have been looking forward to this point. We wanted it, we got it. You don't like it? Tuff- you know what. Deal with or fall behind the pack. The choice is yours.
