Hmm okay, if u dont like taking a few mounths to use the guns, how about the fact that itll take most people a few mounths just to be able to afford them? 1400mm scouts, when they were rarer, were over 100m each, these guns will be around that too until all of the 8 bps have been out for awhile.

OK my 2 penneth.
Ive only got 13mil sp (still many more to go until my contract expires - hopefully SOR (Saga of Ryzom) will be out then )
Its very easy nowadays to advance with a modicum of time spent online unlike the 'good old days'.. the gunnery / missle nerf I believe have been due to this ease of progression.
Wait until the peeps now complaining how hard it is to progress reach the higher SP ratings and suddenly find that the new influx of players can match them stride for stride within several weeks. ( Assuming The game is still around with the large player base)
RPGs have always been a time based game and rightly so imho.

I think anything should be possible... more things in the game need to be based on actual player skill rather than character skill.
But old timers definitely need some benefits here.

I have to agree
EVE is great the way it is
I myself (9 mill SP) is a jack of all trades i always claim i am a fighter however i am just as good a agent runner and producer as i am fighter will i ever get tech II weapons proberly not as i am to much into research and manifacturing is that a bad thing
I dont think so i am curently training a second Charector (second account) to take over much of my R&D as my primary needs to get better at fighting (as that is what he is) and corp manegment (as i ended up a CEO) honestly though the game needs more skills so that it takes 3-6 months to be great at any one field (with new skills coming out at a regular basis) why you might ask simple to keep the miners miners the PvP PvP and the Researchers researchers
it need to be a world where unless you are a ancient charactor you will only be able to do a few things and the jacks of all trades (like myself) can do any of them but not as good as the specielized person
the classes we should have is CEO/Corp Maneger Miner Fighter Researcher Manufactoror station Maneger Agent runner Trader
all of them can do a skill they are not specialized in however its harder for a miner to win in combat then a Fighter the fighter can mine but not as good as the miner you see my point
atm its to easy to be a jack of all trades the tech II stuff has made it harder for me to keep up on the R&D and the Manufactoring so all i do atm is agent running, fighting and CEO thats what i am becoming i am hoping come shiva that i will need to limit myself even more but we will see
anyway a 1 mill SP charector that is specilyzed in fighting can (and will) take me down in fair combat he dont need tech II (or III) itemns to do it and even when the tech V items come out the new charectors that are into fighting will be able to kill a 20 SP charector that is more of a miner
on the whole clone thing though the limit should stay where it is or else you will run into the samme problem again in another year or so (20 mill is the cap atm if i remember correct) what needs to be put ingame is a selective skill for your clone so you basicly program the clone with the skills that you want to retain mind you BS lvl 5 would requirer the cruiser skill and frigate and spaceship skill (to the correct lvls) that way peoble can select what skills they are willing to lose if they are podded (once they reach the 20 mill SP) like the fighter giving up trading (wich is a basic starting skill on new charectors) or maybe even mining

Exactly, you are right. The thing that keeps most players playing EVE is the fact that there is still something to gain, still something to achieve. In a lot of MMORPGs I have played, you get to a point where the only way forward, is to start over. Or if you can go forward, the stages are so steep there is no point.
Making you want more is what will stop the bordom ;) |

Edited by: Eeyore on 19/08/2004 04:15:32 For all ppl who told me what IĈm "whining" - STFU! :)
For the rest.. It wasn't a complaint.... I didn't ask to change anything... I was just really P***ed :) :( It just seems unfair but I can deal /w that. The thing bothers me the most is, as a power gamer you only get advantage in knowledge (witch at some point becomes irrelevant, cause of not enough new information coming into the game and if it does it's a minor changes to the info you already know) and items/isk (witch are very helpful).
Why IĈm not getting SMALL increase in my gunnery when I use my guns... Why I'm not getting little bit of skill poits when I'm reseaching/buildin/mining/shooting/FLYING/using modules .....
I think it could be balanced.
PS: I will state it ONE more time, IĈm not complaining, I don't ask to change anything ... I just want to hear what other thing about these things. -------------

We didnt have implants, agent missions, any npc's with bounties over 85k or miner2's.
Took me over a week in a bantam to mine enough to buy a Merlin, which was bought from NPC's at NPC prices cause no players were building them yet.
We had pirates trying to gank us at the gates in every 0.4 and lower system because the sentries wouldnt shoot them.
Damn kids got it too easy now, when I was your age, I had to fly 10 jumps uphill in a blinding snowstorm with no shoes to buy skills....NO SHOES! We didnt even have clones back then neither, so if you got podded you were f'd. NO SHOES I tell ya!
You missed some:
Rats were not over 50k bounty, and those were in the far reaches of 0.0 space.
Getting stuck on a station/rock/etc meant you had to log out for 15 minutes to clear the warp.
Trit did NOT sell for more than 1isk.
We didn't have "cents".
There were no highway systems. If you wanted to go from yulai to pator, you had to take the long way.
Moa's were the "uber" combat ships that everyone swapped loadout secrets for. Seeing a battleship in space was something to brag about in corp chat.
The range scanner took 10 minutes to scan at max range, during which time NOTHING on your screen updated. (Whered those battleships come from? *pop*)
No Miner II's. (Needed to be said again)
We were lucky to get over 5k cargo in a Bestower.
Frigates were good for one thing in combat: Blowing up.

Anyone else got some good "back in my day" rants?

Utter rubbish. Its a question of carefully tuning your character on startup. Of course New players won't understand that, but, if you read the info thats there, you can nudge your character in a general direction from the get go. This character was a little diappointing in the short term, because he's a researcher. Everything about his creation went into sciences. He has skills that aren't even in use in the game yet. Research slots are are as rare as can be imagined, But, One of my other alts is a combat guy. After two weeks of existing, hes completely lunatic, its been great fun. And becuase of carefully selecting his skill trees and attributes, hes quite possibly capable of being a tough pill to swallow for anyone in a frigate. regardless of how long they've played.
