So, I get into my hulk in around 6 days time. My question is, shall I stick with standard Strip Miner I or do I go for the Modulated Strip Miner II with ore specific crystal?
I hear that its a pain replacing the crystals and that they brake quite often?
Any pointers would be appreciated

Modulated Strip II with T2 crystal and you'll pull in between 1300 and 1600 a laser

Get the II and if you can the II crystal aswell. They really don't break that often. Once every few hours. And it takes half a second to drag a new one in.

The life span of a T2 crystal is, on average, 10 hours of mining. It might be a pain to buy new ones if you are far away from where they sell. I believe it is totally worth it though.

The only downside to T2 crystals is that you have to have the refining skill for that particular ore at level 4 to use the T2 mining crystal, but the gain in yield is worth the effort if you plan to mine on a regular basis

Thanks for the info guys. Deffo going to train for t2 laser's and crystals now.
One other question, how much ISK should I expect to be making an hour mining Veld in the Hulk?

Basic math...
~10m with 1400 yield, 20 full cycles and trit price at 4.1

I'm guessing like 10-12mil/hour. I've heard 15, but I don't see how that would happen unless you get alot of concentrated/dense ore.

15's doable in a good gang. Trit price of 4.1isk/unit, that's 123isk/m¦ mined.
15mil isk /123 m¦ = 122k m¦ mined an hour, which is 2032/min, which is a well skilled and fit hulk, operating with a well skilled mining director.

Location will effect your isk/hour quite a bit. ~10m solo sort of assumes you're always getting the max yield from your lasers. With a survey scanner constantly monitoring the status of the roids you're mining and manual shutoff you can boost your hourly output, but I find that sort of a pain.
