I hadn't played EVE for years (incase any of you look up I gave my friend my password so he could play) and I saw the game in retail and decided to buy it and it lists the exclusive bonuses on the cover. It doesn't say anywhere about for new accounts only and I was only told this after I put in the code on my account and came to the forums to find out. I made a petition and I was told that I couldn't have the code back to put on a new accounts because I was told this........ yet it says it NOWHERE on the box or the key code and nowhere on the box, not even in the place it says Important.
1. I didn't get instant war access... whatever that means. 2. I didn't get a VIP pass to whatever I wa smeant to. 3. I didn't get the special edition ship 4. The Guide is a download on the internet for everyone.
The game doesn't even come with the Apoc expansion so you have to download the 1.3gb file before you even play which is annoying. No other company would treat you this way because well for one these items advertised would be for EVERYONE who buys the damn thing.
Blizzard wouldn't get away with this and nore would SOE or anyother company and yet CCP only get away with it because these forums are full of elitists who flame anyone who says a bad word.
I expect these offers to change to anyone who used the CD KEY. I myself am a new player and don't see why I should be treated any differently just because I used an account from when I last played in 2004.

But seriously, CCP got this all wrong, that's pretty widely known at this point. -

You're an idiot.
Onto the matter, I think CCP used this more as a method to advertise Eve, not as a way to get the game in a hard cd format with all the normal add-ons.
Bit annoying by CCP, though they weren't ones to botch things.

Edited by: Zeba on 22/03/2009 18:45:34 Doesn't it give you a choice to decline to use it on an existing account though? Not to say the box wasn't a little misleading for established players hoping to get the perks along with the game time or isk if sold as a plex but if your character was from 2004 it probably was low skilled and you could have made a new one on a new account? Also you might want to modify you original post cause admitting to account sharing is a bannable offence.
edit: damn everyone sniped me.

Actually I would have petitioned him also since he freely admitted to account sharing on the forums.
But to the OP, it states on the outer box and the print on the dvd casing that quick start items only available with new account activation.

You again? Thought you'd died in a fire somewhere. Go troll somewhere else.
To the op, yep. It's pretty well known at this point, the box is incredibly misleading. And once you've scratched off the code you cant take it back to the shop as they think you've used it already.

No it doesn't. In the US it does (So I'm told), but it doesn't in the UK. It simply says "Exclusive" on the front of the box.

In the UK release, it's printed at the bottom of the "Getting Started" (Page4)
Whats the matter OP.. You fail at reading the game manual?

Yeah, they did a really poor job on the exclusive content, as well as the information about it. Which is why I'm not buying the box.
But your point 4 is way off. Go out and buy any retail copy of any mmo and you'll have to patch it. It's the nature of the beast. Physical media is static, an mmo is transient in nature.

Which you can only read once you've opened the game box. Know of any high street retailers that will take back unopened PC games, do you? Cause I don't.

I can understand this, but you'd at least hope they'd put Apocrypha on it so that patching is kept to a minimum. It still has Quantum Rise on the disc (Even though it was released at the same time as Apocrypha), so it's a 1.7GB download.
Apart from that, I agree completely.

Not possible. IF there were to do that, then the box would have had to come out about a month after it did.

I agree, and I'm not sure what a possible solution would have been, but it's a valid argument nonetheless. Perhaps delaying the retail box for a few weeks might not have been a bad idea, although I also understand CCP's desire to get it out as soon as possible.

Isn't Atari responsible for the box version, not CCP? All CCP did was provide Atari with the shuttle and the PLEX.

Good luck returning an opened online game beacause the things you need to know are printed INSIDE THE BOX IN THE MANUAL. you fail at understanding the complaints.

No, Atari is the publisher, not the developer. It's is CCP's role to provide Atari with a gold master of the disc they intend to publish, along with artwork for the box and manuals. All Atari does is make the discs and print the manuals, then ship it to the distributor for distribution to retailers.

If their priority was to get it out as fast as possible, they should have revised the release date all the way back to the point where nothing of it was ready, released nothing, and called it a job well done. -

Yes I do, and yes it's a little misleading but since it is printed somewhere on the item purchased, anyone raging over it fails at reading first then acting second.
There are hundreds of items forsale that do not have all the little details printed on the outside of the box or packaging... are you going to rage over them items as well? but you have it set in your head that CCP should have listed it on the cover somewhere like the US release(?)
Yes it would have been an idea to but.. it's not.

If you whrere using an existing character you would not anyway since the character likely already had the standings needed.
Quote: 2. I didn't get a VIP pass to whatever I wa smeant to.
Did you read anything in the box, the VIP pass is the same as the buddy system referral.
Quote: 3. I didn't get the special edition ship
This is limited to new accounts and even then only to the first character your create. You get a shuttle with twice the cargo space.
Quote: 4. The Guide is a download on the internet for everyone.
Not only do you get it but others can as well.
So I am curious how any of this is FALSE advertising? This is a **** poor box write up and Atari should be hammered for it but there was no lies here.
Quote: No other company would treat you this way because well for one these items advertised would be for EVERYONE who buys the damn thing.
No other company would let you buy a box set and add it to an existing account either.
Seriously the lose you thing you have taken is not a big deal. The hsuttle is a neat toy and kind of useful to new players but noth worth getting upset about. The instant war access is a none issue becuase first FW is fairly lame so you are missing nothing and second an existing charatcer likely has the standings so would have got nothing anyway.
Before you start your cry of elitiest, I am running a new account using the boxed set and my characters are not that old in the game. Other companies have worse business practices on a daily basis and you want to cry becuase you did not get your expanded shuttle? You sure EVE ius the game for you? Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, God will be a light unto me. |
