The human animal has lots of protections built in to protect itself. Among these is the innate dislike for pain and discomfort. When someone or something burns you, nothing sends a clearer message. However, there are those who just donÆt get it. Maybe itÆs a dangerous mixer of stupidity and determination.
I guess some people are just thick.
The end of the last tale left me in the first asteroid belt in the Avenod system. The energized particles of TieberiusÆs vaporized Thorax, and subsequent escape pod, still hung heavily in the air. HeÆd left behind a sizable amount of Omber in a jet can, and I had a corp mate coming to pick it up.
I was feeling terribly guilty. I was imagining good olÆ Tieberius going home to his lovely flaxen-haired wife after a hard day of mining.. hugging his eight kids and three dogs and sitting down to a warm love-crafted meal. And IÆd brought all of that to a violent, bloody, heavy missile filled end. I bet he was really an intelligent, thoughtful individual who always remembered birthdays and anniversaries. IÆd succumbed to vile, petty greed and taken the life of a good man. I was one of those people who Obi Wan Kenobi was talking about when he said ôscum and villainy.ö Bubba and Earl were right in blowing me up all those 482 times with their sentry guns.
Though I knew he was cloned, I knew he just wouldnÆt be the same..
But then, he shows back up into the system.
IÆd just had my first victory. And in the course of my life, that is almost immediately followed up with a nice, tasty, punch in the face. ôHeÆs probably bringing a Raven,ö I thought. Or maybe a nice Megathron. Something with big fangs and an irritable disposition and 200 Grade A Mk V Whispere Chomper/Digestors. But this ore can was my prize, and thereÆs no way IÆm backing down. If he wants to come have his revenge upon me, IÆll gladly fight to the death. HeÆs earned that much.
Mentally, I prepared my defenses. My launchers were loaded, my capacitor was primed. If I were to die this day, it would be like a true warrior. And when he smashed in my hull and ripped my frozen body from my grapefruit, it would be with my icicle hands still stuck to my missile panel.
By that time my corp-mate was in system and in the belt with me. He was in an industrial ship, and at first sight of my foe he was going to retreat. I would last at least that long.
I took a deep breath. Death.. he be a comin for olÆ Whispy, he be.
And sure enough, he warps to me. I guess he had it bookmarked, because he comes out of warp within 3000 meters. With no small measure of anxiety I tell my scanners to ôLook Atö. LetÆs see what heÆs brought to battle..
A Raven? Negative. A Megathron? Shucks no! HeÆs brought none other than the slayer of pirates everywhere.. the feared.. the loathed.. the hatedàà Badger Mark II.
I blinked. This man is my kindred spirit!! HeÆs coming to battle in a Badger!!! Even I, who hath been totally obliterated more times than I (or even the readers of this series) can count would not be so bold (or so ridiculous) than to bring a Badger Mark II to fight a Blackbird. Maybe he has a secret weapon, I thought.. maybe something is going to spring out of that massive cargo hold and attack me. But after the third volley of missiles, the Badger too, had gone to that big dirt mound in the heavens. Though he did log off when I acquired lock on him, so there was no pod to be had again.
As surprising as all that was.. nothing could have prepared me for what was in his cargo can..
A couple of units of Zydine, 200k of Pyerite and Tritanium, 20k Mexallon and Noxcium, and a couple of named cargo expanders.
I realized then, why piracy exists. People who would take their Badger, loaded with a hoard of minerals, out to fight someone who has killed them once.. well friends.. they are the beef cows of the space-faring world. TheyÆre out there chewing the cud, waiting for the butcher to come by. Though most of my friends know IÆm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, Whispey, the bumbling, ill-fated pirate who almost never was, will always be out there blowing herself up to try to make that happen.
So whether as allies or prey, friends or combatants, I hope to see you soon. I'll end this tirade here with a little quote of mine.. "Win or lose, living a life nurtured by risk can only multiply the gains brought from it."

Times have been hard in the brief time that weÆve played this great game, and IÆd like to thank those who have been kind enough to send me an EVE-mail, or a bit of ISK with their words of encouragement. When I started the Whispere adventures, I had no idea that people would actually read and enjoy them. That means a lot to me. Thank you.
To answer some questions that people have asked, I am not a professional writer. I am quite the amateur, and all the things I write about did in-fact happen. Though they are dramatized a bit and exaggerated (as all good stories must be), I actually play Whispey in the manner she describes herself.
People have said that I can no longer attach the word ôNewbieö to my adventures, since IÆve pretty much done all the newbie mistakes, and I actually had a victory. I plan on moving out to 0.0 space soon, and from what I understand itÆs a different world out there. So for those of you anticipating another ôWhisp gets blown to smithereensö tale, thereÆs likely not one far off.
If you did enjoy my little tales, feel free to drop me a line anytime in game, be it with mail or otherwise. I always like to hear from people, and plus, Whispey is still very bankrupt. :)

You know what I find funniest, do you realize that you are the ONLY pirate to post anywhere on the forums without getting flamed?
It is a credit to your writing skills that your stories are so enjoyable even the trolls can't help but to love you.

Great story ... and yes, 0.0 is tons of fun ... hehe, just get a supply of frigates, and you'll be able to get yourself 'pasted' (that one STILL cr4cks me up every time)many more times
