Can this thread not become a flame fest and be left for CCP to answer a question that needs clarification
Every thread on the name change of a certain alliance has degenerated into a slime pool.
As it stands at this moment it is unclear on when, and for what reasons a name change is allowed. Can CCP please clarify the guidelines for name changes so all the player base know what the criteria are.
Please do not lock this and point to the other threads as they are concerned with one particular incident- this is a general question on policy that may affect many players
Thank you

Agreed.
Is this in fact the first time an Alliance has had its name changed .. or not?

Why should it be locked, changing the name of an alliance or corporation is something that may be considered by many, Giving clear and concise guidelines as to the circumstances that may lead to the name being changed is of benefit to all the player base. It is a valid question
In the other threads it has generated a lot of debate, but no answers as to when or why a name can be changed, that information should be available so if anyone is considering a name change can see if their application has any merit.
A clarification of the guidelines , so all know what they are is of benefit to everyone, players dont make petitions for a name change if they dont fall within the guidelines, which means less work for the GM's.
A simple clarification of the rules will save everyone a lot of time and effort

This thread will be locked because it is a duplicate thread. You have three other places to discuss this in existing threads.

the three other threads are concerning one particular alliance, this is not, this is a request to inform all who read the forums of the current criteria needed for a name change.
A question that I believe has not been answered anywhere else as the wiki is obviously out of date

It's CCP's software, their servers, their EULA, their rules. It quite clear states in the EULA they can do this and various other things too. You "signed" the EULA, so you're bound by it.

Oh, you need a quote, do you?
Quote: Yesterday we changed the name of the alliance KenZoku to Band of Brothers Reloaded as the result of a petition by their leadership. It has come to our attention that this was not a popular decision among some of our players and weĈd like to take this opportunity to address those issues.
We have previously changed names provided a petition was created within a reasonable timeframe and the situation warranted such action. The leadership of KenZoku/Band of Brothers did petition us immediately after they were disbanded and their name was taken. While we worked on the petition for about two months we do not feel that they should suffer because of that. Having them disband and lose sovereignty again was not deemed appropriate in this case.
This action was limited to changing their name, as we have done before for others - we did not assist them in regaining their sovereignty after the Band of Brothers alliance was disbanded, nor did we assist with that now. Any other corporation or alliance finding themselves in the same situation would get the same treatment.

There is a difference between whining, and asking for clarification on an issue, the difference is not even subtle

Petitions are the best way to get an answer from CCP.
Whining in clone threads on the forum are not.

Whining in clone threads on the forum are not.
A petition gives "one person" an answer, this is a question of policy and affects many people, and differentiates from the known policy and therefore a concise definition of the circumstances of how a name can be changed, is important to much of the player base and should be posted to these public forums. In that way everyone playing the game gets the full and complete knowledge of what is possible- not an unreasonable request?

Well obviously you fail at understanding, in order for the name change you have to have created a petition for the change within a reasonable timeframe (no waiting 6 months) and have a legitimate reason for needing the change (Spelled something wrong or someone stole your name just after you lost it and were going to get it back) does this clear up the parts you missed?
Logic dictates that using some sense you can roughly figure out what kind of scenario's you might get a name changed, if you need more clarification WoW is that way ---> --------- Liberty Rogues Site

The bolded words in your original post sure sound like whining when you speak them aloud.
"HEY EVE, THIS IS A POST FOR CCP ONLY, DON'T MAKE ME LOOK LIKE A FOOL FOR ASKING THIS HERE!"
"HEY CCP, DON'T LOCK THIS POST THAT HAS THE EXACT SAME CONTENT AS THREE OTHER DISCUSSIONS ON THIS MATTER, I'M TRYING TO MAKE YOU LOOK STUPID!"
...not that it takes much to make CCP look stupid at this point. Just saying you're doing this all wrong.

the situation warranted such action
I think that's the bit that everyone wants to know the answer to. What was it specifically about this situation that warranted such action.
Because at the moment it looks like there really isn't one. No rules were broken prior to the change, yet CCP deem it necessary to break their own rules to help fix player mistakes.

Logic does , and for that logic I go and look at CCP's published guidelines for such changes. the problem here is that the guidelines have changed and the player base is not aware of that change, and I am requesting that the change of policy on name changing is made public so all are aware of the criteria - is that an unreasonable request?

It is not an unreasonable request, but the fact that you are trying to seperate it from the initial discussion serves no purpose other than to call attention to yourself.
Have you even read the other threads? You have no original content here.

No what you're asking for is a list of times when you can petition to have a name changed, it will be down to each individual case and not be a blanket "If you meet 3 of these criteria we will change your name" kinda deals --------- Liberty Rogues Site
