Hello, off and on over the past month the client will start going into a crash loop. More so over the past two days. Yesturday for one of my accounts the client crashed a good 10 times as soon as a character logged in. Eventually it stopped crashing.
I'm currently in another crash loop. So far I've crashed 8 times as soon as my character logs on. Here is what Windows 7 said about the crash.
Quote: Problem signature: Problem Event Name:APPCRASH Application Name:ExeFile.exe Application Version:7.10.27.490 Application Timestamp:4df8a6f5 Fault Module Name:_trinity_deploy.dll Fault Module Version:7.10.28.6263 Fault Module Timestamp:4e526a3b Exception Code:c0000005 Exception Offset:00795c12 OS Version:6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID:1033 Additional Information 1:0a9e Additional Information 2:0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Additional Information 3:0a9e Additional Information 4:0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 250 Ram: 8GB GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 430
Some additional information that I have noticed from the crashes..
It seems to only affect one of my characters at a time. Meaning, On account A if character 1 is crashing, then character 2 on the same account does not. |

I am having the exact same problem and error, except it is not going away and is affecting all my characters. I have tried several different things from resetting the cache to updating graphics card drivers. Nothing I've done has made a difference.
:(
OS: Windows 7 CPU: Intel core 2 duo E6420 RAM: 2GB GPU: GeForce 9600 GT
Copy and paste of the error message I get. It seems to be exactly the same

Confirming exact same issue here. I log into the game and then a minute or so later it crashes to windows desktop.
In windows event viewer:
Faulting application name: ExeFile.exe, version: 7.10.27.490, time stamp: 0x4df8a6f5 Faulting module name: _trinity_deploy.dll, version: 7.10.28.6263, time stamp: 0x4e526a3b Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00795c12 Faulting process id: 0xdb8 Faulting application start time: 0x01cc758a75b10cd5 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\bin\_trinity_deploy.dll Report Id: 45e43ca5-e182-11e0-a0e6-00acbcd535fd
Note that on all three of us the faulty module is: "trinity_deploy.dll"
This has just started as of this morning and basically the game is not playable.

Getting a similar problem. The client crashes either as you enter the game or shortly thereafter. Again, started only a few days ago, after the last Incarna 1.1.1 update or something. Tried repairing, running in safe mode, updating graphics driver and resetting cache. Even tried to submit a petition but for some reason it failed to go through even after multiple attempts.
Atm Eve is unplayable... |

Those with crashes in _trinity_deploy.dll, can you try the following and see if that prevents the crashes for you:
1. Clear your client side cache once again (either through the option in the "Reset Settings" tab of the game options, or by directly removing it) 2. restart the client, but do not log in, so an empty cache folder gets created. 3. find the new cache folder (see http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_default_directories) and navigate to the Pictures/Characters/ subfolder. 4. right click the "Chat" folder and select "Properties" 5. make sure that the "Read-only" checkbox has a checkmark in it (not empty or filled out, it needs to be a checkmark) 6. start the client and see if the crash still happens. D 666, what you have is "merely" a graphical issue and doesn't seem to be related to the crashes that the other people in this thread experience (which results in the client closing down completely, if it starts at all).
In your case, please create a DirectX diagnostic report and create a petition within the Technical category "Graphic problem", and attach the DxDiag as well as the screenshot to that petition so we can start looking into this further. Playing around with graphics driver settings may already help, though. GM Karidor | Senior Game Master |

Unfortunately the game still crashes. I did what you said step by step and multiple times just to make sure I wasn't being stupid but same issue associated with _trinity_deploy.dll
I make sure the "Read-only" box is ticked but when I look under properties again it reverts to being filled out.
The problem is definately associated with character avatars in the chat windows though, as some flash and disappear moments before the game crashes.
Hope this is in someway helpfull. I'll also gladly submit a petition if that'll be more useful but as stated above, three attempts to do so have failed.

I'm getting this aswell. All of my clients crash. It seems to be when a call is made to the "image" node to load avatars that the game crashes. |

If you are still crashing despite making the cache\Pictures\Characters\Chat folder read only, then please create a logserver log catching the crash and attach it to a petition into the Technical Category ("Crashes/Lock Ups" naturally), so we can look further into the specific cases. Same issue here. Only got eve to work by using security tab on windows 7 and removing inherit permissions from parent, then setting Chat folder permissions via properties/security/Edit/ 'Read and Execute' + 'List folder contents' + 'Read'
Don't get in game chat pics now tho. |

Hey,
Im having the same issue as well with the _trinity_deploy.dll, The crashes i seem to be having is becomming more frequent so to say, id log in and it would immediatly crash as soon as i see something like the Station UI and its not even finished loading yet. Redownloaded Client last nite, updated every piece of hardware that could be updated to the most latest drivers. Tried running the EVE (safe mode) client, same thing happens. I have been catered to by one of the technical support okes, and he helped me create a logserver file which was sent as a reply to them as well as the dxdiag file. Also followed the instructions of GM Karidor, problem still persist. Is there anything else i can do to help solve the problem on my side? |

Hey,
So been looking around.. this problem only popped up for me today..
All suggestions above seem to fail. The server log app if you look through it while loading EVE does indeed spaz out when its trying to render the station UI.
Once the Chat folder cache is cleared it re-downloads the images and in serverlog errors again ( different image files if you clear down the folder multiple times and retry ). When EVE is trying to read/load the jpg files.
Occurred on both my machines, both of which I was playing on last night until 0000GMT.
None of which have had any other software updates / install. Only the latest EVE patch.
So, it would seem to be either some new content that is corrupt ( broken jpeg ) / the EVE software is spazzing out on folder/file permissions and short circuiting itself.. either way i cant login at all...
Not good....
Can the devs wrap this in a try{ load the jpg; } catch { log; report to eve; ignore; } finally { keep working } so we can atleast crack on without chat images........
Serverlog.. { Failed to read JPEG header from cache:/Pictures/Characters/Chat/61/91095061_31.jpg Improper call to JPEG library in state 201 } |

So found out what the problem is. The work around is a pain in the neck but at least you'll be able to get on-line.
Some of the Chat images being downloaded from the EVE server are corrupt. So there's no error handling when the UI renders the image / try's to read the header info from the corrupt file so EVE explodes.
Causes:
Server providing content is timing our / or a bug has been introduced? ( Given the recent patches ) In my case, it could be latency but more than likely is server/ network / routing etc.. ( I am in South Africa ATM )
Workaround ( windows 7 ):
Run EVE login. Enter EVE with your toon. EVE eXplodes.. Open file explorer Browse into the chat folder where all images are cached. ( C:\Users\{{username\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\d_library_my_games_cpp_eve_tranquility\cache\Pictures\Characters\Chat ) Right cluck and change the view to "Extra Large Icon's", Look for images that do not render ( Any images that do not preview correctly are broken ) Copy and paste another working eve image from the cache into the cache folder with the broken file. Rename it to the same filename as the one that won't render, after deleting the broken one. Repeat the last 2 steps till all files in all numbered foders are done.
* Note : While this works as soon as you meet someone new and there chat image doesn't download properly EVE WILL EXPLODE. Run the same process.
Fix for the DEV's :
Wrap this in an error handler and IGNORE/DEFAULT to a standard image. ( While we wait, this should be standard practice ) Work out weather its a routing issue or if your image download service/server is spazzing mid download...
Dev's Make rocket go now.. Patch today please... even if it is client only and only contains some error handling. |

It seems to be working for WinXP too, to copy/paste cache'd files and renaming them, it works till someone new pops onto Local channel, then BOOM.... crash and burn :(
I hope the issue gets sorted soon, cant really play eve atm with current problem, too damn **** scared of loosing my boat :"( lol
YES; im very noob still
Thanks for the quick work around Forkboy <3
EDIT: Ok it doesnt help me doing this 13 consecutive times (in WinXP), my gameplay is unplayable at the moment, Will wait for feedbacks from the folk at CCP. thanks for the post though Forkboy.

Same offending .dll, but my client only crashes when the models for my Alts Tower or Labs begins to load. I don't have the CQ enabled so I was able to undock and fly around up until that I landed at my tower. I have cleared the cache for my client, which didn't resolve the issue. |

@ Xenno: Yep i am using Mweb as my ISP on a 4mb uncapped Although i dont think its my connection at all, I play almost all my games without hassles, its definatly something to do with the Avatar pictures, in my client just before a crash, i can see half-rendered avatars and some i dont see at all. As soon a i go to local where +30 people are, my client crashes. Forkboy's suggestion works for him on win7, i have winXP and tried the same, but to no avail. At the moment, i cant play EVE at all, as soon as i log in. It crashes. |

Yep same with me. I can't even do that, as I find myself currently in a populated system that experiences around 10-20 jumps a minute so I cannot even stay in for more than 3 seconds.
And yeah, its not an ISP issue. Tested with WA and have the same problem. |

Hey snap, also South African and also on Mweb!
But agreed, it's not the isp, same avatar problems though, busy downloading the client again but don't know how much good that'll do.
Will try your workaround Forkboy, also running Win7 so should work then, just sounds pretty tedious.
Hope CCP sorts this out asap. |

South Africa - Cape Town, Mweb 4mb Uncapped. Additionally, this started happening last week Thursday. I re-downloaded / re-installed; thinking it was a corrupt install. The issue seemed to stop on friday evening, I played all weekend, until I tried to login today... I think this has something to do with the ISP and port shaping.

Hence my suggestion of making that directory write protected after clearing the cache, as that seems to work around the issue for quite a few people that are affected by this specific crash. Either way, the cases that Customer Support had the chance to look into further showed that the offending portraits all have been in pristine condition on the image servers, so the corruption seems to happen somewhere along the road. We are not quite sure about the exact culprit at this point, it could be something within the ISP, or a virus scanner messing with the files in weird ways when they are being downloaded, or even something completely different. The whole thing has happened before (albeit quite rarely) and seemed to have ceased for a while later on.
As for the client seemingly not handling those corrupted pictures gracefully, yes, that's another matter. I will try and chase that up where I can, but if you have such corrupted portraits, I can only once again only strongly suggest to create a logserver log (this will tell also tell you which pictures the client choked on), and create a bug report alongside with adding the actual corrupted pictures to it as well (as those are the hardest for us to get to actually reproduce the issue). There is always this error close or at the end of the log files.

When I try open the images in photoshop, it throws an error stating the data has been truncated resulting in image corruption. Sounds like packet loss when retrieving images, resulting in the libjpeg lib throwing an exception when it tries to handle the image.

Hey,
Yip its not a great workaround you'd need to do the copy past alot. I wrote a program to recheck the files and replace them with a dummy.
I am trying to figure a workaround to short out the underlying url request to the webserver so i can always get it to return a dummy. Will let you know how that goes..
If anyone has some serious net skillz this is where its requesting the images from cdn.ccpgames.c.footprint.net.
Pings timeout etc. Pathping gives up nothing.. wierd
Good look can someone raise a petition i've tried via the web and the game interface which are all not helping!
Good luck
*EDIT : I agree they could predict all the shaping stuff out in SA however a simple catch all ie ( ie image is not valid use a dummy ). I just wrote a little app to do just that.. |

Ok,
The folder permission thing does work, but for some reason for me on Win 7 it does'nt stick. These new steps worked for me.
So you'll need to be a bit more forceful this will ensure EVE cannot access the folder.
This workaround has less repetition you'll be happy to know!
Workaround steps :
1. Right click on the Chat folder and click properties 2. Click the Security tab and click the advanced button at the bottom 3. Click change permissions 4. Untick the include inherited permissions. A prompt should appear. 5. Click Remove. 6. Click the Replace all child object.... 7. Click Ok/Yes until all property dialogs are closed.
That should do it! enjoy.
To Undo :
1. Right click on the Chat folder and click properties 2. Click the Security tab and click the advanced button at the bottom 3. Click change permissions 4. Tick the include inherited permissions and the Replace all child object. 5. Click Oke. 6. Click the Replace all child object.... 7. Click Ok/Yes until all property dialogs are closed. |
