I've been flying a Crow since almost right after they came out. Actually, I've been flying THE SAME Crow all that time. I've flown it against every type of ship in the game solo and in packs and have yet to lose it.
As for the Taranis, why in the hell a Crow pilot would close to less than 10-12km is a mystery to me. I find that I can kill a Taranis just fine from a distance. Usually they are so busy trying to close the range that they neglect to notice that a trio of Bloodclaws is slamming into them every eight to nine seconds while my 150mm Proto barks constantly and then... boom. -

Only fought three. They all died. I guess they were all stupid because I suck at PvP?

Or they aren't paying attention, or they really want to try to kill me or one of the other 10,000 things that happen in combat.
Originally by: Zarthanon And you must not be fighting very much if you haven't lost one of your intys once.
Yeah... I rarely undock. What does MWD stand for?
Originally by: Zarthanon I've lost a good many Taranis but to cruisers and BS in fleet battles.
Ummm... good for you?
I don't understand. Your standard for being a good pilot... is losing multiple ships?
I understand you love your miniature Blasterthron, but don't think that means anything to a pilot who knows how to fight them. The only frigate I might consider running from on most days is a Crusader and even then only when it's got a competent pilot on the stick. I'm waiting for Istvaan to post on this thread and rave about his Crusader of Doom. -

Ppl called me a n00b for tanking a taranis lol which was funny when they died guess the crow can do it and have the advantage of distance if the pilot flies it right.
Time to change my drone resistant setup on my crow try tanking and get some more flight time in that beast :P
Heh. You hit it exactly.
Why in the hell would a Crow pilot close to that kind of orbit? Thier main armament is missiles! I don't think many people realize just how much Standard Missile Level 4 or 5, plus a Ballistic Control, plus the Caldari kinetic missile damage bonuses matter. On a good hit, a Bloodclaw can do 120-135 points of damage and a Crow fires three of them about every eight seconds.
No, it's not as devestating as a Tanaris at close range, but two or three volleys is generally enough to send any frigate down in flames. Twenty seconds goes by really fast in a one on one duel and if a Crow doesn't want a Tanaris, or any other frigate, to get closer than 10km, there's no way it's going to happen.
I've seen interceptors and even cruisers do a version of, "OMG!! WTF?!" as they suddenly realize that they aren't going to be able to close. Then they do the 'double-click franticlly on anything' to align and warp out and 50% of the time that is exactly when that last volley of missiles puts them in a pod.
Crows and Crusaders don't get most of thier kills by closing to web and warp scramble range. They get them because enemy pilots underestimate the damage output of these craft and expect thier target to close range. By the time they understand that is not going to happen, it's usually too late.
My point: there is a counter to everything and no ship will automatically win a battle. Ninety percent of kills made are due to a pilot's skill, not what ship he is flying. -

I haven't fought a Taranis 1 v 1 yet, but don't believe all the hype, Crow's can be taken down with other ceptors I have proof! (ask if you want me to post the logs)
Yep. As I said, the Crusader is the only Itty I usually get nervous around. -

Now that would be worth seeing. Finding a good ares setup that has pretty descent firepower seems to be next to impossible compared to the other ceptors (except maybe the raptor).
mmm not worth doing if it wasn't a challenge. I'm up for the try. We could play for ship kills and no podding if you like Seleene?
You want to hurt my baby?!
Sure, Jade, it's a date. Might be a bit as I'm on the other side of the galaxy for the next week or so, but the next time I make it up your way I'll shoot you a mail and we'll have ourselves a little shootout. -
