Just a quick question for any of the Devs who are around at the moment; can you think of any incidences where you've seen an idea posted by a player (be it in Idea forum or any forum) and it has been taken onboard and introduced into the game?
It'd be nice to give a bit of recognition to some of our very clever playerbase and maybe have us all trying to do our bit.
It'd be nice to know what ideas and which player(s) got the credit.

I've already checked out my golden star for the wholesale nerfing of the map.

Edited by: Scorpyn on 23/08/2004 12:46:18 I don't think I've seen anything that was implemented exactly as suggested, but I have seen modified versions of some ideas make it into the game. Impossible to tell whether they got the ideas from the forum or if someone just happened to suggest something similar to what they were already thinking though.

Sometimes I doubt they actually pay attention to new ideas for things, or innovative fixes for old problems.

They did add my "Dock" option in the asset listing if you are in the same solarsystem

Didn't know about that option, but now that I do I'll start using it

As far as I know I was the first/only to suggest it in the IDEA LAB some months ago, so I think it's "mine".
I suggested it after I bought systemwide some stuff and then undocked to see 15 stations and having to remember in the listing that it was Planet IX - Moon IV and NOT Planet IX - Moon VI
Repeat that 10 times and you'll see why I was getting confused after undocking from Planet XI - Moon IV looking for my stuff.

The lack of that was annoying the heck outa me (especially whenever I docked at a station only to find out it was the wrong one).
I think it would be nearly impossible to say "Feature Y was brought to you by Player Z". Sometimes an idea has been sitting around for ages, sometimes the end may be the result of the consideration of 1001 ideas and 21% original thought. Sometimes player V isn't going to like idea F and it may be better to avoid getting someone repeatedly pod-killed for it by assigning blame to them.

That explains why it appears that you take ideas and modify them. It's simply because you do

Ha!
My leet searching skills uncovered my original suggestion!
However it smells like Redundancy didn't read it originally and added it after getting annoyed at the same problem I had proposed a solution for months earlier
(yes that's a friendly reminder to them to check out once a week or so nifty ideas that improve the game, this small and simple idea is probably saving lots of frustration as have and will many others)

I have no idea if my swift programmer-poke was a completely independant original idea or influenced by something I read months back and happened to remember when I got annoyed by it again. It's an obvious enough idea that contextual actions for stations and bookmarks should apply consistantly, but was it really my idea? no clue.
There's a lot of people here who read the forums much more than some people would have you believe, and there's also a lot of ideas that pop up on the forums that have also been discussed around here previously (Some people also seem to think we dont play the game and are incapable of coming up with a good idea ourselves). My point is that distinguishing them is almost impossible, the creative relationship is just some sort of wierd blurred symbiosis vaguely resembling a lovecraftian-nightmare [with tentacles and stuff].
I think it would be fair to say that the community is intelligent enough to come up with some ideas like the eones we're considering, and we're intelligent enough to realise when an idea from the community is pretty cool.
