Hi everyone, ive build a tiny tool to reposition eve clients when they are in windowed mode.
What this thing does is reposition the windows so the client window of the eve client is position on the top-left corner of the screen, that means that the window title and the left border will go out of screen.
Hitting the button 'Colocar todo' will make it so your eve clients will seem to be fullscreen while in windowed mode, without touching anything else, and of course with the fast switching ability of windowed mode, i know is a pain, i've got 3 accounts :)
If you dont use your screen resolution in your eve clients they will simply go the top left corner and not fill your screen.
I've found mouse problems while trying to resize the eve client to resolutions not in the eve configuration dropdown combo, so ive chosen this method as it is the one with the best results.
This tool is free, ISK donations are of course optional.
Maybe if i'm in the mood i'll make it so the tool goes to the windows tray.
The tool was made using VC++ 9 and WTL.
Let me know about any problems you may find. Regards and fly safe.

Still waiting for EVE to have a scaleable windowed mode. Kinda fed up of being locked to a specific size of window.

I didn't know about ShiftWindow, if i had i probably wouldn't have build this app, dunno, didn't try it.
Concerning Vista i cant guarantee that it works as im using WinXP, so if anyone has any problem with Vista please let me know.
Any way, after looking at the screenshot i can tell you that this app is much much smaller and simpler to use.

What is this application supposed to do? Other than locking windows in a certain position it achieves nothing.

Yes it does, it sets the eve window to fit the screen as if it were in fullscreen. You have to set your windowed mode eve resolution to the same resolution of your windows screen. Without it you will have an eve client (or more) that its out of place because of the window titlebar and window borders.

Edited by: Doktor Feeelgoood on 05/04/2009 08:01:38 Looks good. Will it work with multiple monitors? My problem is that I dual client with 2 different screens. One monitor runs at 1680x1050 and I have an Eve install that uses that resolution. The other monitor is 1920x1080 and I have a second client install that uses THAT resolution. What I have to do right now is start Evemon, set it to position client on screen 1, click the client so it moves, then start my second client, set evemon to position to screen 2, click that client so it moves, while being careful not to click the first client, and then disable Evemon's moving clients at all. What a pain in the arse.
I'll try this out tomorrow.

If there are no complications by using the dual monitor setup, you just will have to start your clients and click on the 'set clients' menu option in the system tray.

Sorry Pharago, I was just really slow however this still achieves nothing as the Windows Bar at the bottom of the screen still disappears as your little programme maximises this. If this programme could scale to show the bar whilst keeping the screens windowed would be great success!

You must press ALT+TAB to switch between apps.
As a side note, i tried to do what you said when i coded it the first time, but i discovered that somehow the eve client dosn't handle mouse coordinates as the rest of windows apps, and because of that (and falcon) it dosn't translate mouse clicks on their correct position on the screen, making the game unplayable; another problem with custom window sizes was eve screen blurring, at least on LCD panels.

That's exactly what i need but for some reason, when i have more than 1 clients running and one of them (or both) are in windowed mode, my pc lags like it was pentium 1 or something. If i go back to both fullscreen on them, its great.
It didn't happen with Windows XP. I don't remember with Vista. I'm on Windows 7 beta at the moment.
Anyway, thanks!

Well, there are a number of reasons about the why eve is made the way it is, as games tend to use their own way to handle mouse control among other things, i'm sure there is a simple explanation about eve's mouse handling and that the effect seen while trying to use custom window sizes is just a byproduct of it, after all, eve resolution should be only changed from it's own configuration window.

the trouble with that is, you can run at your monitor's current (usually max) resolution, and have bits of the client off-screen, or, you can run in a lower resolution, and have empty space around your client that's going to waste.
Personally, I play most online games in a window, and the ability to scale windows is nice to have.

Just to balance the pros and cons a bit:
Smaller---yes, you have 70kB, I got 740kB. I'd say the difference gos 50:50 to runtime libraries and user interface (I have one)
Faster---Let's see, how is "manually rightclicking in the tray bay and selecting a menu option" faster than "doing nothing"?
No installation---Actually your tool requires the user to find and install some archiver that can extract RAR. And then to actually place the extracted EXE somewhere it can be found again. Mine has an installer: download, run and done, including start menu entry. (And it's a single EXE, too...)
Easier to use---As long as the user has one EVE and one monitor, it could be seen both ways. You have a rightclick and a leftclick, I have a leftclick and a drag&drop. On the first run. On the second run, you have rightclick and a leftclick, and I have ... nothing. ;)
When using multiple monitors however, you lose. (by (a) moving all EVEs to the first monitor and (b) by not removing title bar and window borders)

I've always wondered, why do people use RAR so much? As far as I've seen, all it does is annoy the crap out of people who don't know how to use it. And you have to buy the software in order to compress with RAR, unless you pirate it. And if you pirate it, you might as well go with 7-zip which is just as good and free (as in both beer and speech) software to boot.

Or people can download 7-zip or another program which uses the free DEcompression library (as in beer, not as in speech). Alternatively, presuming you are using WinRAR to make the archive, you could create a self extracting RAR file, can't you?

I can confirm that this tool does indeed work on Vista Home Premium, on 32 bit system, with multiple clients. When you launch the application, notice the little icon in the bottom right of the taskbar (beside clock). When you are in eve (or even at login) right click it and select 'set clients'.
I have never enjoyed a good working relationship with other screen tools like shiftwindow. This one works so well. Where have you been all this time!!! *******

now I know why it isn't working ... because i'm using the option to identify the clients with the char name in the title, it only works if I turn that off. Does this application browse the name of the windows in order to make them fit the screen?

I can't explain how annoying that tiny blue bar across the top of my screen was, and the fact that the bottom of eve was missing.
This tiny app is like voodoo magic!
Thanks and have this bump :)

Great tool, now what i would like to see is:
- When running your tool and opening EVE, it should auto set client to chosen screen
I thought i had another idea, but it disappeared before i got to re-think it. :) 5 mil donation to you !!
Thank you for a awesome tool, hope you planning on more features :)

Well, i'm in the middle of something huge right now, so i don't have much time to spare.
I've been thinking about this program, and well, it has all i wanted from it, and then some more.
The idea was to make a zero-config, easy to use and install, small memory footprint tiny app, just to set eve clients in the 'right' position, and thats done.
I'll keep an eye on this thread so if anybody has a problem with the app or just wants to propose some change, just say it. I'll see what i can do.

Effective and useful program but I'd prefer to run one that I usually run anyway that does the same thing.

Plain C++ with a spice of WTL for the windowing stuff. Quite simple if you ask me.

This utility is useless to me. I'm still waiting for one that will allow me to have a number of predefined Eve window positions. As it is now I have to use the titlebar right-click menu and Move and count off major and minor offsets to get the windows precisely cascaded like I want them. On monitor 2 I position three of them to screen edges and the other two by eye.
Someone once had a utility for predefined Eve window positions, but stupidly it only provided for four. I need nine, so that utility was useless, too.

Adds 'Client Switcher' utility for fast client switching, its a small button window that is always on top and looks very much like the rest of the eve ui, it updates itself automatically and sets the names on the buttons to the logged client character name.

Edited by: Eraggan Sadarr on 14/10/2009 19:56:04 Fantastic size on this tool :)
I would really wish for the following functionality:
Autostart with windows, just sitting in the tray. No balloon tips or anything. (This i can achieve with your app as it is)
But then i'd really like the tool to detect the different eve clients and move them to the monitor of my choosing (This should only be set once)
Last but not least i'd really like if the each client could be set to either fullscreen (as in remove borders and place top left) or just move to the specified monitor (this should also only be set once).
The reason for this is: I like to play with a windowed fullscreen client on primary monitor for my main and smaller windowed client for my alt on secondary monitor. And it would be cool if i could just start the two clients and the theyd jump to their right position on their respective screens.
Hope you would consider my suggestions. Keep up the god work :)

Hmm doesn't work for my purposes. I would need it to detect when the clients (notice the plural) start, and then move each to the designated monitor, and/or move and remove borders.
Good luck with the tool.

- when having the taskbar on the 2nd (not primary screen) the taskbar symbol is not useable.it flashes up for a milisecond and its gone again.
- the name of the client in the tiny window is named client01 2nd client client02 and so on. closing existing clients and opening them again leads to the name client03 client 04 and so on.
is this normal ? thx for the help and the nice programm

Sorry, I dont understand what do you mean by 'task symbol', but, if you mean the option 'Show taskbar' from the client switcher menu, then take a look at the windows taskbar configuration and check if the option to automatically hide it is activated, that might be it.
About the naming of the buttons, yes, its made on purpose, as long as the program is running, each time you open a new client it will be given a number that comes from a counter.
The client switcher is made to use your logged character name, go to the eve configuration window and in the general tab, there is an option called 'Show window identification', activate it and the buttons will be able to pick up the name of the character logged in that instance of EVE.
Hope that helps, regards.

A feature worth investigating is "CPU Affinity".
Thus a user could set which CPU core their clients are attached to.
If "AFK" having clients all on another core with a free core for web browsing and work. If "PvP" having clients spread among cores can be better.

thx for the client-name-tip.
and here the takbar problem: the windows tasbar on the bottom on a 2 monitor-setup is either on the left or right monitor. if the taskbar is positioned on the 2nd monitor (each monitor in windows is either set to primary or secondary monitor) the taskbar symbol next to the clock is not working correctly. when right clicking the icon the right-click-menue is shown on the PRIMARY screen in the lower right corner and only for a second and closes again automatically. it cant be used. if i move the windows taskbar to the primary monitor the taskbar symbol and the right-click-menue works perfectly.
i hope that helps. thx michael Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Sahwoolo Etoophie ([email protected]) Fury Website |

Suggestion for two changes.
- Allow the "SET CLIENTS" feature to be automatically run if a new EVE client is detected.
- Prevent multiple instances.
For me personally the 2nd one is just something that if it isn't complicated might be a good idea. But the first one is critical, I'm going to keep this program and EVEMover mainly because EVEMover automatically moves the clients on start up and your program can set them again if something stupid happens. ______________________________
I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. |

you can do it yourself already, open the menu and select the 'configure' option, in the editbox that says 'eve online path' add '/end /LUA:OFF' to the end of the string, click 'ok' to save the new configuration. from there on you will be able to launch eve with those options activated.

Hey I don't know if anyone has said something similar but I run a dual monitor set up with Windows 7. I can run EVE on one monitor and still use the other monitor without alt tabing or anything so eve is always up but I can still use other stuff on my second monitor. GREAT APP!!! But I have one question. After I close the window helper how do I start it up again? I can't seem to find it on my comp anywhere? Where is the default location as that would be where it is at?

As there is no installation process at all, the program file must be in the same location where you uncompressed it from the zip file.

Edited by: Isaac Starstriker on 05/01/2010 20:08:00 I tried your program and I do have some critisms:
Its a complicated program. Or at least, its overcomplicated for what its doing. Compared to Eve Mover which auto-detects and auto moves, (after the first time) yours requires me to assign programs and do it every time. It also doesn't support two different paths when activating Eve Online. (In other words, I have two Eve Online folders to save certain settings to certain clients and yours doesn't support it).
The reason I say its overcomplicated, is that if I were to ever suggest a program to someone, I prefer it to be simple and easy to setup. I think yours went a step too far and over complicates what should be a fairly simple process.
While I congratulate you on a fairly decent program, it doesn't work for me. Enjoy the free bump and fly safe! :)

Very nice soft I used it since several month now. I replace Evemon with that one cause of multiscreen support, it's just awsome ;)
One little request/suggestion : can we have a Unset client option? Indeed, if I have 2 client running on 2 screen and want to invert it, I have to full screen both to recover the window bar and drag it on other screen, then set client again, what could be a bit annoyning in certain situation (i.e. big fleet battle). Otherwise just great.

You can do it already, it is the 'Restore' option in the menu, it is exactly what you are asking for. The 'Restore' option will give borders and title back to your clients and place them so you can move them again.

The client switcher can use your logged character name already, go to the eve configuration window and in the general tab, there is an option called 'Show window identification', activate that option and the buttons will be able to pick up the name of the currently logged character.

Great tool, very well done. :)
However in one case it seems its not working as intended, and that would make it trully perfect. I have Windows7 and my taskbar is on top of screen. (More effective way to work but thats another troll story ) And that seems to bother your tool. Everything works fine (borderless window, horizontal centering, multiclient switching), but vertical centering : it doesnt take taskbar into consideration. Top-left corner of client is still right under the bar. So since clients are in same resolution than desktop, bottom is cropped out.
So at this moment im using the Relocation feature of Evemon which works great in that particular case, ie. eve window fits perfectly on top.
It would be awesome if your tool was doing the same. :)

How about a feature to pin the EVE clients in a certain 'depth'? I run multiple eve clients to mine. I can get all the windows position such that the cargo and orca boxes are visible, but when I click in the window it pops that client to the top and obscures the others. If they all stayed in the same relative depth it'd be easier.

That can be accomplished by having the latest EVEMon beta running - who hasnt that running anyways?
But +1 on the client hotkeys request.

It does it already automaticly once you set EVE to show the character name on the title, look for it in the options and enjoy :P
Please, please, please, put auto-relocating of windows by looking for when an EVE client is launched, pretty please with sugar on top.

With /LUA:OFF the EVE client will save all settings in the client directory instead of the users profile. That is somewhat helpful if you a) maintain several clients on one box and/or b) carry the EVE client on a memory stick. I dont know what /end does.

That feature has been proved to take as much as 5 fps from 60, on an AMD x2 3800 using an ATI 4850. It is fast but it is not free and there are many lowend/badly setup systems that will not be able to use it.
If you press the option 'close' from the new window menu, it will unload itself from the client and free any system resources it may be using at the moment.

Well it does not work for me. Core i7 920 + nvidia gtx280 with the 190.34 driver. Two clients at 1920x1200 with max details at 60fps and each client window drops fps to roughly 25% - 60 to below 15 (one window) to below 5 (two windows). Closing the windows does not restore fps I need to restart the client.

I use 4 clients at 1440x900, fps drops from 35 to 20 with multiple views from all accounts, with a 5 years old computer and a videocard from 2008. One of the beta testers has a computer that always goes at 15 fps, engaging multiple views drops his clients to around 4 fps, on a core duo at 2.66ghz and a geforce 8600, he's fine with that though hes already waiting for an ati 4850.

There is no way to restore the colors other than deleting their registry entries, maybe i'll add a 'reset' button to the colors window.
About plans for the future, well, i'm busy afk most of the time, tough it looks like i'll have some free time soon, i've been thinking about the next change to the ewmh, and yes it's going to be awesome and yes it's going to suit your needs :)
In any case, it's going to take a while, a few weeks more for sure.

make it possible to save the position/location of the new window you are trying to make, most of the time it's always the same spot you are trying to put in a new window, whether it's mining lasers or any other modules so it seems like a nice idea to have this saved instead of having to redraw the window every days :)

Collection of feature requests:
- the feature to open clients from inside EWMH needs to support one more client (or better make the numner configurable)
- predefine the screen on which a client gets opened if it is started by EWMH
- have a function to "swap" 2 active clients between two screens

This would make the app so much better, having to recreate windows each time would become a hassle. Set once and save would be nice, or maybe even add some sort of profile thing where each profile saves the new window settings.

When playing EVE in Windows I use this software to run fullscreen windowed and play eve with just my mouse. I use microsoft on-screen keyboard for inputing text, like if I need to in the market screen. It also enables me to switch programs without having to use the keyboard. Also, I use a thumb-trackball mouse, so effectively I am playing eve by just moving my thumb and two fingers, and my eyes. I don't even have to move my wrist. Soon my body will be just a pile of plasm and three digits. btw... Bump! :)

Edited by: Joe McFly on 19/10/2010 12:00:41 Is it possible to implement a feature for nVidia Surround users? With "surround desktop" (like 5040x1050) your mover moves all evewindows to the left, because there is only one screen. Would it possible to set targetpositions for the windows? This way surround user can set positions like 0, 1680, 3360. And all clients are back aligned to the physical screens.
Btw. your program is the best eve-window-mover i'am knowing.

Great little app!!
I have used shiftwindow, Evemon etc in the past but this tops the lot for elegance.
I just discovered a really cool use for the window cut out feature.
I run 4 accounts on 3 Monitors, (C4 WH anomalies mostly) up to recently I had my 2 combat pilots on the main screens with a warfare link Tengu boosting passively on the 3rd sharing with a prober with a combat probe out.
I now turn off the 3rd monitor and have the Prober and fleet booster at lo res hidden behind the combat pilot screen on the 2nd monitor. I use the window cut out feature to capture just the probing window and overlay it on my main monitor. It stays on top by default and I can activate the scan by mouse click from that overlay. In effect this means I have a full combat fit on my main but with scan probe functionality grafted on.
So much easier than constantly checking 3 monitors. I can raise the full probers window to the top to refresh the probes by just clicking on the button at the top of the main screen.
Havnt tried it yet but this would be perfect for setting up multiple mining clients with just the cargo and jet can visible from each client, plus the prober if in hostile space ofc.
A small contribution is on its way as a vote of appreciation for greatly enhancing playability.

nice piece of software!
but i've got a problem to get it running with those extra views. when i click on new the client window goes all black, i can draw the square and client is back to normal...but the new view is black (but clicking/mousemovement in that view works). i did try on 2 different computers with both windows 7, one ati one nvidia, but both seem to have the very same problem :(
anybody had those window goes black problems before and solved it?

the window view system only supports A8R8G8B8 and X8R8G8B8 pixel format modes, check your eve configuration settings and make sure you have one of those two modes selected in 'color depth', let me know how it goes
as for future updates, right now i'm having a rough time in rl and it may take a while before i release something new, thanks to all those that support this program, fly safe (or don't :) -------------------------------------------

Previous poster with the problem must have jinxed me!
Yesterday a sused the overlay cutout feature with no problems but today i cant get it to work whatever settings in game or out I try.
I either get no reaction to selecting "new window" or the target client window goes black but the cutout works, once the cutout is made the client reappears but the cutout remains blank, It can be moved to a second monitor but just doesnt display anything, mouse works in the cutout but cant see what you are doing. I have tried all combinations in the In game graphics menu including reducing res to 1024 and lowering/raising all settings.
I recomended to a friend and he also cannot get the cutout feature to work from the get go!
I hope you can take time out to take a quick look, I use this feature daily.
My specs are 2x Nvidia Gtx 260 in Sli, Even tried with Sli disabled Driver version 260.99 not changed since it was working yesterday Resolution Monitor 1 1920 1080, Monitor 2 1920 1200

tried to reproduce the problem in winxp to no avail, some corp mates too using various flavors of win7 reported no problems, make sure you haven't installed any new software that could interfere with the program -------------------------------------------

Put the Pc to sleep last night and this morning The feature was working fine again, I made 8 windows into the second client without a glitch.
Contacted the friend and he too can now create cutouts. No settings changed its very strange.
I even managed to get full functionality on the new stretchy windows on Sisi :)

I posted on the Sisi forum http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1417657
The new build has a complete borderless relocation function from the Esc menu. It also remembers which monitor it is set to and maximizes to that on boot up.
Also Performance for me is more than doubled, I get 140 fps with 3 clients on 3 monitors, in maximised window mode. And thats with HDR/Bloom/shadows at max and 1080p. I think it is my SLI kicking in, so looks like SLI has been enabled in the client now. I have 2 x Gtx260's.

In the light of the new windowed update to the eve client, i'm preparing a new ewmh version to save multiple client sesions with their positions, monitor locations and window views. Once it's done i'll reactivate pharago's account and post the program in this thread.

There is one small problem.
After incursion patch when i run two clients and click SET CLIENT, all windows was setup with border lines and resolition was changed. I must try many times with resolution change for get good window position without borders.
Is any idea how i can disable dynamic resolution change in EVE Client?

I managed to get EWMH working with the new patch, by setting EVE to fixed mode and I just now use the EWMH buttons to switch between the clients.

Works fine for me under win 7 64 bit across 3 screens and 2 different gfx cards. Then again I'm using it just to switch between the windows.
A small feature request, if possible. Seeing how the software keyboard and mouse mirroring has been declared legal in EVE (push mouse in one eve client and exact same mouse click is 'mirrored' to other open clients at the same location) would it be possible to add such feature to this program as well. Plus keyboard mirroring.
So say .. I have 5 accounts, I set them all up on the same way and then fly in fleet battle with 5 ships fitted in exactly same way as I would fly one ship. There are few other program capable of this out there, but they are written for WoW and/or have features illegal in EVE (ie automated play, that is forbidden in EVE). HotKeyNet, Keyclone, AutoHotKey (AutoHotKey is illegal in eve as it can be macroed) etc.

Awesome \o/
How hard it would be to get also "Picture in Picture" window support. Something similar to the current version but instead of showing only the part of target window have full client compressed into smaller frame. Does not need to take mouse or look especially pretty but would give one a rough idea of what is going on without looking at the target client explicitly. Cliking one of those minipictures might bring up the correct window.
Anyway - awesome program in my opinion even currently.

Well, that would mean pixel interpolation 'on the fly', it would be a very costly operation. Maybe sometime Soon.

I look quite forward to the next version as this program has been quite a help when running multiple clients. I hope CCP have also given you a big thank you as in my opinion you have likely helped quite a few people decide to run another account.

I'm quite looking forward for next version as well. After trying out few utilities designed extra for multiaccounting I ended up using this app for it even if it's not specifically designed for it (ie it's not exactly mirroring keyboard and mouse, altho the additional windows mirroning other clients are very helpful).

I recently came back after being gone for a few months. When I left EWMH worked like a charm, now however, when I set the clients it is chopping off the bottom portion of the screen. Try as I might, I can't get it to fix it either. I am playing off a HDTV running 2 clients on one PC at 1360X768. Is the new "Features" screwing me up?
Thanks in advanced, Pim Po

Hey
I think I need some direction here. I am trying to utilize the feature for creating windowed cut outs of your other open clients and bring them into one client (or so I understand it).
So you click on client tab, go to New Window X, and click New -> and this is supposed to bring up a screen were you can draw your cut out box etc?
I get no such screen. Have I missed a step?
Thanks. *******

I had this problem, after some tweaking I found that the feature doesn't work if you have Anti=aliasing enabled.
When working you get a yellow notification text on the target client, just draw a box around the required screen area with the cursor, drag the resulting box where ever you want. You can make up to 8 cut outs total. It remains always on top and isnt effected by minimising the target client. Great for minimizing a scanning alt and just keeping the scan interface overlaid over your main client. Also to have several miners with cargo and jet can from each on the main screen.

Is anyone having problem with launching eve client from path 3? Whatever link I put in there, it is not starting. I use 3 instanes of client in separate directories and would like to run all of them from the app.
By the way, great app, I just love it. Can't wait for next version with AA support for cut outs. |

you can do it yourself already, open the menu and select the 'configure' option, in the editbox that says 'eve online path' add '/end /LUA:OFF' to the end of the string, click 'ok' to save the new configuration. from there on you will be able to launch eve with those options activated.

Go to the ESC menu, select the "General settings" tab then check the "Show window identification" box. This places your character name in the top bar and in the EWMH tab.
