I like how CCP added shift in wavelengths into the new warp effects, makes it realistic and makes for more immersion. If you notice, the tunnel ahead of you is blue, where as the tunnel behind is red.
If you dont know light comming towards you will appear blue and red as light moving away. Its the same principal scientists use to tell if something in space is moving away or comming towards us.
REALLY COOL CCP thanks!!!

I agree i'm a astrophysicists, and aprove of this concept - eventhough we are moving many many many times the speed of light - I would expect the doppler effect to be non existent. But its still a nice detail none the less.

I love the way the warp tunnel is vertical when warping horizontally with my pod!
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Here is why your would not get the Red/Blue shift - when you move faster than the wave that you are trying to look at.
Faster than light movement Linkage

Ok but do you realy mowing faster then light ? or using warp tunnel as kind of shortage between two points in normal space ? Gues in warp there could apply different physical law and thus speed of light can be also different. In reality you cant exceed speed of light as it would tear apart bindings between atoms.
Anyway i like new warp and jump effects more. It no more feels like flying thru long pipe

No, the new warp along with most of the new graphical features are laggy, over-cartoony and generally have a stink of WOW about them.
New bubbles now look like some giant fat kid has generated them from fairy liquid and a coat hangar.
New gate jumping makes it much harder to see who has and who hasn't jumped through yet, which the graphics look very similar to the new SeBo effects...., which make all ships look like some nancy fairy type thing.
Neuts/Nos look 20% as good now that all energy transfers look identical.
Hardeners on the other hand look better now....

There is a new warp effect on the test server instead of the ones with "bubbles?"

Any pics of this new warp effect then? I'm curious as to what they've changed in it.
Any news of a new cyno effect instead of the blob we have at the moment?

Edited by: PeHD0M on 05/04/2009 11:49:09 I think, that the old effect (before apocrapa)was better because: 1. it was symmetrical 2. there was no "water" 3. the sound was better 4. the color shifting was better

Faster than light movement Linkage
In essence the light that comes from the oposite direction in regards to the light thats behind you - would no be able to reach you - even if you take a relativistic time dialiation into consideration - /me points to their own(CCP) article on how FTL speed works in eve.
if it's a real warp drive we do not travel faster than light, it's more like bending space around you and surfing a gravitonal wave

QFT - the concept behind a warp drive is that you do not travel faster than the speed of light locally. If there was a photon inside of the "warp effect" while you were warping, that photon would still be faster than you. The concept behind a warp drive is more along the lines of shortening the distance that you have to travel, rather than making you travel faster. |

FACT: I know, I have been playing longer than you but took a really long break. And im talking about the sub-effect within the effect itself.
Also I did not consider the fact that we may (or not) be traveling faster than the speed of light. I have no idea but Im going to agree with you and say there would not be any dopler effect. Or do you think it would be all red band? No idea, I love conversations like this. |

I like the new warp effect, but I have found that when you warp in a pod, the warp tunnel appears to take you 'downwards' when in fact you are warping 'across'. Disorientating!!
