Not this one. It's not technically a phpBB3 mod because it's not directly integrated. I do plan on eventually making one that's integrated into it, but as of right now, this is what I've got. It's fully functional though, and uses phpBB3's own functions so that all validations and security from phpBB3's registration is applied to this separate page.
If there's enough interest in direct integration, a later version might support this.

perhaps im just simple minded :P, this COULD be accomplished by a simple compare afaik, 1 the ceo/director inserts for 1x his full API, script stores corp & if there alliance name, and if a user registers /w api key all the gotta do is match up :)

Yeah, I could get that done this afternoon pretty easily. Keep an eye on this thread.

Using 3.0.4, does not use register.php it uses ucp_register.php, which has a LOT more code in there, so I am trying to weave your code in there, but no luck so far... But I am no phpbb expert, so could take some time

It doesn't use the ucp_register.php file, it's its own self contained registration script, completely seperate.
On another note, I've modified this to work on a corporation level, but is there any easy way of making these users auto members of a certain group so they can see restricted forums? And also on that note, if that is possible can normal registration be enabled again so new people/friends can join the forums?
Great job

It's planned for a future release. The current release is more or less a hold-over until I get one that's directly integrated. That one will be released like a normal phpBB3 mod (with the XML installation instructions and all of that).
Also, a corp-based one is in the works, now that I've taken care of my RL business for the day. Should be up a bit later :)

Open up the register.php file
Look for the following line:
'group_id'=> $defaultgroup,
Replace with
'group_id'=> 7,
With 7 being the group number that your "corp member" group responds to

are you filling in the 1st box "Character Name" with the exact name of your toon?
as this is what the API is looking for when pulling the data

Actually, $defaultgroup is defined in config.php, so you can just edit it there to make it easier :)

Originally by: Kappas. What's with the xml file? does it autoinstall now or something?
No. I released it in the standard phpBB mod fashion. That XML file should be opened in a web browser other than IE (it mistakenly thinks there are XML errors, but the XML is well formed), and it will walk you through the installation, if you're doing it manually. If you've got version 3.0.4 and do not have mods, you can simply replace the original phpBB files with the ones in the root directory of the archive, and run the SQL queries in the install XML file, and it'll work right out of the box.
Before someone mentions MODX or AutoMOD, I'd like to personally discourage its use as it doesn't always have great results. Manual installation guarantees it is done correctly, provided you follow the instructions =)

Should be a section in ucp_register.html that looks something like this:
Quote:

{profile_fields.LANG_NAME}: *
{profile_fields.LANG_EXPLAIN}
{profile_fields.ERROR}

{profile_fields.FIELD}

If there isn't, you must've removed it, as that's the section that handles custom profile field display. If you're referring to the API related fields I generated, try verifying that the changes were made and clearing your cache =)

Regarding the theme, by default, yes, it works with the prosilver theme (to guearantee everyone can use it). If you want to use it with another theme, all you have to do is edit the API-related sections of ucp_register.html and ucp_profile_reg_details.html to reflect the profile field display on your theme of choice.
Regarding registration being conditional on whether the API key is valid, that's doable, but I'd have to rewrite part of the mod to suit that purpose. I also don't see that particular "feature" getting a lot of use, so unless there's an overwhelming show of support for that, I'll probably let it be. If there's a lot of requests for it, I'll write it in and release it as 2.1 :)

Well the reason I'm asking is because my forums have an application process on them. To fill in an application you have to register on the forums. Hence, you won't be in the corp (at least not yet).
I understand that you don't want to implement an impopular feature. I'm just hoping. ;)

I've deliberated on it a bit more, and actually, it works well if your boards will play host to diplomats as well. so I'll implement that in the next few days, and release it as 2.1. There'll be the install XML for 2.1 as a whole, and a folder with an XML file going over the update process from 2.0 to 2.1.
Watch this thread, I tend to update pretty quickly.

Sounds excellent mate. Thank you. As we're on the subject perhaps you could think about some other features as well (this time not something I need, but might benefit some):
+ A coalition option. Some groups of corporations coexist and are NAP:ed, but aren't in an alliance. This way they can have a joint forum.
+ Clickable character info on Profile. With this the administrator could setup so that people other than the admin could view the characters of a specific account. This one could be made public, limited to a group (say corp-members) or hidden (admin only). Simon Illian has made a code for this on the eve-dev (eve-dev.net) killboard info, that pulls the API and displays a page with a character sheet. The code is fully open-source iirc, so you could maybe nick it?
+ Skillpoints rounded and displayed on posts. Like the display of post-count, except skillpoint count? Maybe you could get a special rank once you hit 50 million skillpoints or something? (eg. EVE-veteran).
+ Profile character summary for easy application process. Imagine that you want to look at a members skillset and don't want to look over his skills manually, what if there was a way that this summarized it for you? For instance, a set combination of skills (eg. Interceptors 5, Evasive Maneuvering 5, etc.) makes you an Interceptor specialist, having all the skills for flying a carrier makes you a Carrier Pilot which displays instead of (or as a quick-view of) an elaborate character sheet on the profile page.
I got tons of more bad and good ideas. Lemme know if you want me to go on. XD

Currently the mod is not useable for me :(. People who want to apply for our Corp can't register because they are not in corp or alliance. What is this mod for? Just to allow ppl to register or not?
I thought its easier to register, insert api key and your password you want to have for the forums = user with avatar, title and forum rights will be created. If a user enters a non-corp or non-alliance api key only access to guest forums will be granted, if he is CEO he gets full board acces with super-mod or admin rights.
that would be awesome. _______________________ hmmm.... |

Had corp members and non-corp members test it, and people not in the corp weren't able to register, so its working correctly.
One thing we did notice, though, is that there isn't much in the way of error messages returned to tell the user why their registration is denied, ie, "You're not in the corp/alliance" or "Your API info is invalid". Would it be possible to add this to the code?

This problem will be fixed in the next update.
Regarding the other lists of features desired, to implement most of those would require pretty much a total revamp of the forum software. While I may eventually do this, some of those features would be in so deep that it be easier to just release it as completely modified forum software instead of a mod.
I like a lot of those ideas, but to write that would take a considerable amount of time, so if I do it, I wouldn't expect it in a hurry. That's a lot of features.
I can also say that such a forum would run slower due to the API calls. I would of course have it cache the data (I already have caching functions written for just such a case), but even so, all the API calls would significantly affect performance on the forum, particularly if the forum has hundreds of members.
Just a heads up on what all it would entail. If there's still interest, I might do it. I have a couple of other projects I'd need to finish first, though.

First of all Thank you for your tremendous work on this ... next time you are passing Jita I will award you Freedom of the System :)
I thought I was competent with most things techie, yet I cannot even create a link to the Eve API info ... just above where they are requested in ucp_register ... any chance you could give me the code to add this pls.
Also, I have created my own theme ... based on TwilightBB which of course does not have your api amendments in it ... you previously mentioned something about copying some files over ... could you be a little more explicit please ... what files from prosilver would need copying to my theme folders.
once again thank you.

I'm now running into a problem with a corp member whose EVE name has an apostrophe in it. I think a good way to circumvent this would be to have him enter his name minus the apostrophe, and have the CharID check disregard the apostrophe as well.

Regarding the cron job, I haven't had much opportunity to work on it yet. I'm off this weekend, though, so I should be able to get some headway made on it, if I don't complete it entirely.
Regarding setting character portraits as user avatars via the API, I can certainly see that being a possibility. Not sure if I can make it happen reliably during registration, but if nothing else, I could create a checkbox on the user's profile that would set it when the update is submitted.

One thing I did with my mod was add a field to store the character ID, this allows me to compare my forum users with my corporation member list and remove anyone who is no longer a member.
Also, how would I make it so it doesn't check if someone is in certain corp or allinace, just that they have a valid api.

Originally by: Tobias Sjodin For me, I just want the version that allows for both non-corp members and corp members to sign up to the forums.
I would be interested in that feature from a slightly different point of view as well as I have Eve players and Non Eve players on my forum. The corp members are organiced in a seperate usergroup and this would allow non eve players to further register on my forum and would put eve players if they are in the part of my corporation in the correct usergroup.
Looking forward to it! "This wise man observed that wealth is a tool of freedom. But the pursuit of wealth is the way to slavery." |

I have had some fun/agony setting up a phpBB forum, but eventually I managed to arrange for the custom design I wanted.
Can someone please tell me how this mod is useful? Is it merely a login thing, where people with limited API keys simply enter their codes and one is allowed to log in?
Are there other uses for this mod, or have I mistunderstood it completely?

Ok, once this mod is enabled via admin control panel/registration settings, where you can disable it set it to corp or alliance then type your corp name in it then it only allows members from your corp/alliance to be able to register on your board, during the registration procces they have to submit the exact character name they use in game thier limited API key and user number. If like me you are running the phpBB3 TeamSpeak login mod it saves having to hack a API mod into Teamspeak as it uses the phpBB3 users that are registerd and you are able to set different levels of access via the users and groups control panel in phpBB3 forum ACP. http://www.a-c-e.eu/images/A-C-E-signature.jpg |

You have to update your database with the SQL queries provided in the mod file. It's trying to use the new fields, but you haven't added them yet.
Regarding 2.1 and the cron job and their delay, I just recently got a new job that is requiring massive amounts of overtime. The money is good, but unfortunately it has cut down my development time quite a bit.
The good news, however, is that this project is neither shelved nor scrapped. It's just going to take a bit longer to release the updates than previously predicted. I will see about getting the cron job released at the latest by this weekend. Then I will continue on 2.1.

You have to update your database with the SQL queries provided in the mod file. It's trying to use the new fields, but you haven't added them yet.
I'm not exactly sure how to do that. I login in phpmyadmin and click the forum database. Then I navigate to the sql bit at the top where it displays a databse query box. I then copy/paste this :
Quote: INSERT INTO phpbb_config (config_name, config_value, is_dynamic) VALUES ('api_validation', '0', '0'); INSERT INTO phpbb_config (config_name, config_value, is_dynamic) VALUES ('api_entity', 'Immortalis Silens', '0'); ALTER TABLE phpbb_users ADD COLUMN api_userid VARCHAR(10) NOT NULL AFTER user_form_salt; ALTER TABLE phpbb_users ADD COLUMN api_limitedkey VARCHAR(64) NOT NULL AFTER api_userid;
And it says :
Quote: Error
SQL query:
INSERT INTO phpbb_config( config_name, config_value, is_dynamic ) VALUES ( 'api_validation', '0', '0' );
MySQL said: Documentation #1062 - Duplicate entry 'api_validation' for key 1
What am I doing wrong? Also, where does the modx.prosilver.en.xsl file belong? Please tell me exactly so I don't get it wrong. right now it's not even installed at all. I just copy/pasted all the files you provided in root in my root install which shows up in the forum user registration part just fine.. it just doesn't work.

i had the same issue, however i resolved the issue by navigating to the table and removeing the two rows that the script attempts to add (in the phpbb_config table on the second page dependant on your viewing preferences)
As the error you are facing is due to the fact they are allready present and therefore it is now allowing you to enter duplicates.

I'm not sure what you mean sorry. Where do I remove lines from? phpmyadmin(and if so, where in phpmyadmin? my forum subsection? where from there? what's the part that I edit called?)? or one of the .php files in my ftp? Please specify exactly what it is you removed and where from. I'm a novice user.
Thanks so much for the help.

Your SQL query has been executed successfully SQL query: INSERT INTO phpbb_config( config_name, config_value, is_dynamic ) VALUES ( 'api_validation', '0', '0' );# Affected rows: 1 INSERT INTO phpbb_config( config_name, config_value, is_dynamic ) VALUES ( 'api_entity', 'Immortalis Silens', '0' );# Affected rows: 1 ALTER TABLE phpbb_users ADD COLUMN api_userid VARCHAR( 10 ) NOT NULL AFTER user_form_salt;# Affected rows: 58 ALTER TABLE phpbb_users ADD COLUMN api_limitedkey VARCHAR( 64 ) NOT NULL AFTER api_userid;# Affected rows: 58
I had a play and got that part to work. Now to try it on the forums.

Hi.
I seem to be having a problem with the mod. I implemented the changes and added in the fields required into the databas with no problem, onto an already live database.
However i'm having problems with the User Control Panel not showing up the api_userid and api_limited key fields on the profile page. So that existing users can enter the user id and API Key.
Any help can be appreciated.

Edited by: Valek Rennesist on 07/07/2009 04:26:24 My apologies for the extended absence. See, the dreaded beast known as RL pretty much beat the crap out of me for a little while. Things are stable now though, and this project is again at the forefront of my attention. I'm going to go back over my feature list to make sure I've got it all together, and I'll see what I can do about getting 2.1 out fairly quickly. Cron job comes first, though.
Some info you might want about the cron job though: due to how this would have to be implemented, you'll want to run it at a time when there aren't many folks on. It will be intense, particularly if you have a large number of users.
Quick review to be sure I've got everything here. I've got listed as desired updates for 2.1:
- Support for non-corp/alliance members, for applicant and diplomats to be able to register but not have access to the member boards. Be forewarned, though, that this could potentially remove the spambot protection this mod offers, depending on how I implement it).
- Registration setting user avatars to their character portrait.
- Supplemental cron job for easy, automated removal of folks who've left the corp or alliance.
Anything I forgot to include in there?

Mind clarifying what criteria this is on? Like, certain gunnery skills and whatnot for naval pilots, industry for miners, etc? or is it organized differently?
Setting up something like that the way I'm assuming would probably be one of those things that'll make some people really happy and others dissatisfied. The best solution I can think of would be to create a system that would allow sorting into certain groups based on skills that the administration would select. Something like that would take a considerable amount of time to develop, so if I were to create it, I doubt it'd be in this particular release, as the functions people are asking for are fairly important ones that I'd like to release fairly soon.

Adding this feature to ESAM wasn't that difficult actually. Depending on the structure of your code, it should be easy to moderate to add to your code. Convo me in game sometimes and we'll discuss how it's done.

You'll notice that the modification file specified that this modification was to be used with version 3.0.4. If you're using it with any other version, it's not guaranteed to work. It is 100% guaranteed for 3.0.4. 3.0.5 is not yet supported, but my intent is to make 2.1 compatible with it.

It appears I left a template file out of the initial release. I'll bundle it with the cron job. The cron job should be released within the next week or two. Been figuring out the optimal way to make it operate without too much overhead (bear in mind, it'll be running API checks on everyone in the corp/alliance/etc. specified, so it's gonna be a little intense already).

Actually, that portion just denotes the database that table is in. It's not often used in queries because people usually select a default database. In this case, the default DB is raafcorp_pbb02.

Run this query:
DELETE FROM raafcorp_pbb02.phpbb_config WHERE config_name='api_entity' or config_name='api_validation';
That'll remove the duplicate entries. I got this one earlier today. That query will resolve it. Run it, then update your user registration settings, and it'll add the keys for you.
2.1 will contain the insert queries in the notes instead of the SQL field, for execution only in the case of errors.

On second glance, I did include the API fields in the template files. It's under Account Settings on your profile. The fields only appear if API validation is enabled, however.

As far as updates on 2.1 go, I'm working on the cron job now. I've written some support stuff into the software to make the cron job's work easier, and that seems to be working quite well so far.
I'm going to make 2.1 work with 3.0.4, but immediately afterward I'm going to port it to 3.0.5 to release as 2.1.1, so if folks have 3.0.4 running as their production forum right now, they won't have to upgrade immediately to use the new mod version (plus it makes development easier on me, actually).
Things are moving quite smoothly indeed, now that I've gotten some of the big roadblocks out of the way :)

Edited by: Valek Rennesist on 03/08/2009 07:51:54 I've got it grabbing the character ID via the API (by the name on the forum account) and checking the corporation/alliance name in the configuration against that character's corporation/alliance name, depending on the validation type selected.
Trying to keep it as optimized as possible so the only slowdown comes from API access times. Writing it as we speak. I've written the validation functions and the query building pieces, now I just have to write the part that cycles through folks to be validated and handles the de-activation e-mails. Doing that now. Progress is good.

Tonight's work is complete. The cron job is 100%. Tomorrow I begin work on the new features.
I'd release the cron job now, but it requires updates to the phpBB files themselves, so I have to release it with the rest of 2.1. Soon, everyone. Very soon.

Character portrait avatars are now supported and configurable via the Administration Control Panel. Next step is to enable non-members to join the forums (should be easy enough), and to make sure that single quote issue is eliminated.
I thought the cron job would be the hardest part. I was wrong. The avatar implementation was no pushover, as phpBB3 has a weird way of handling uploaded avatars.
Work to continue tomorrow. At this rate, should be done by this weekend at the latest.

As of this moment, as far as I can tell, 2.1 is feature complete and bug-tested. Tomorrow will be spent creating the 2.0 -> 2.1 update XML file and verifying the contents of the from-scratch XML file are correct. Once that's done, 2.1 will be released here.
As a note, please remember that 2.1 is still for 3.0.4. Once I've gotten it released, I will immediately begin work on a version that is 100% guaranteed compatible on 3.0.5. It will be released as 2.1.1. I will offer links to both in the topic post, to provide maximum support.

Hi Valek,
Just wanted to say I've installed this and it's a very cool MOD and it works well. I'm looking forward to the new version!
I'd like to see the ability to specify additional corps and alliances who can register on your forums. Although my corp isn't part of any official alliance, we're close to other corps and work with them all the time. This is the one thing stopping me from implementing this on my live site :)
It would also be nice to list user's corp in their profile. That way we can display it on forum posts, in the member's list etc
But yeah. Great work, and thanks! |

I can confirm that 2.1 does support the option to allow people who are not in the corp or alliance you specify to register. You also have control via the admin panel of which user group they will be added to. I highly recommend making sure that the groups you use have basic privileges, or you could easily have some problems with basic functionality (a good, basic way around this is to copy permissions from the Registered group when you create them).

I was going to wait until release, but certainly.
Changes from 2.0:
- Created cron job for easy cleanup of users who've left the corp/alliance, and users with invalid API credentials. - Added 2 additional inactive reasons to supplement cron job cleanup. - Generated e-mail template for cron job's e-mailing of inactive users. - Implemented support for EVE character portraits as avatars upon new user registration. - Further EVE character portrait support added so users can reset their avatar to their portrait if EVE avatars are enabled. - Created helper script to gather character IDs and store them in the database upon addition of character ID field to existing forums. - Integrated support for users who are not members of the specified corp/alliance. - Created configuration options for improved control over destination usergroups for members and non-members. - Added support for altering user API credentials and EVE avatars via the User Administration in the ACP.

Only thing left to do is prepare the instruction set for updating from 2.0 to 2.1, and finish packing it, and it'll be good to go. During the process of verifying the instruction set for a fresh 2.1 install, I found some errors and fixed a few bugs.
Should be out tomorrow. I can about 98% guarantee it. Thank you all for your patience.

Its entire purpose is to port this mod over to phpBB 3.0.5, so it will not be a feature release. Please notify me here or in-game of any bugs or issues.
Donations are welcome ;)

Found a small problem with the cron job. On line 25, at the end, right before the semicolon, it has the letters id sitting there. Please remove that if you have it. If it's correct, it'll have a ] right before the semicolon. If you don't remove it, you'll get a parse error trying to run the cron job.
The archives have been updated to have this change, so no worries if you downloaded after reading this post.

Potentially stupid questions - is the cron job automatic and if so / not how do I check it's run or get it to run?
Eve Avatars - should it be an option for existing users as I cannot find that option.

That sounds to me like it's failing to retrieve either your character sheet or your character ID. Backtests with multiple characters on this mod worked.
As a preliminary attempt at fixing it, please make sure your getID() and validatechar() functions match these:
/** * Gets the ID for the specified username. * * @param string $username The username for the account to be created. * @param bool $updatename Flag for whether to update the username's capitalization during registration. * @return the character's ID. */ function getID(&$username, $updatename = false) { $url = "http://api.eve-online.com/eve/CharacterID.xml.aspx?names=".urlencode(stripslashes($username)); $xml = simplexml_load_string(file_get_contents($url)); $id = (string) $xml->result->rowset->row[0]->attributes()->characterID; if($updatename) { $username = (string) $xml->result->rowset->row[0]->attributes()->name; } return $id; }
/** * Validates that the character is a member of the corp/alliance specified in the configuration. * * @param mixed $user_row An array containing user data. Only the API-specific details will be used in this function. * @param integer $charid EVE character ID for the registering user. * @param string $type Corp validation, alliance validation, or disabled. * @return validation success flag. */ function validatechar($user_row, $charid) { global $config, $user; switch($config['api_validation']) { case 1: $xml = file_get_contents("http://api.eve-online.com/char/CharacterSheet.xml.aspx?userID={$user_row['api_userid']}&apikey={$user_row['api_limitedkey']}&characterID={$charid}"); preg_match("/<corporationName>(.+)</corporationName>/",$xml,$corpname); $corpname = $corpname[1]; if($corpname == NULL) { return $user->lang['INVALID_API_CREDENTIALS']; } if($corpname != $config['api_entity']) { if($config['api_nm_register']) { return 0; } return sprintf($user->lang['INVALID_API_CORPMEMBER'],$config['api_entity']); } return 1; break; case 2: $xml = file_get_contents("http://api.eve-online.com/char/CharacterSheet.xml.aspx?userID={$user_row['api_userid']}&apikey={$user_row['api_limitedkey']}&characterID={$charid}"); preg_match("/<corporationID>([0-9]+)</corporationID>/",$xml,$corpid); $corpid = $corpid[1]; $xml = file_get_contents("http://api.eve-online.com/corp/CorporationSheet.xml.aspx?corporationID={$corpid}"); preg_match("/<allianceName>(.+)</allianceName>/",$xml,$allname); $allname = $allname[1]; if($allname == NULL) { return $user->lang['INVALID_API_CREDENTIALS']; } if($allname != $config['api_entity']) { if($config['api_nm_register']) { return 0; } return sprintf($user->lang['INVALID_API_ALLMEMBER'],$config['api_entity']); } return 1; break; default: return $user->lang['INVALID_API_CONFIG']; break; } }

Originally by: Eugene Spencer Is there any documentation how the CRON job stuff works or how to set it up? I had a look in the files but there's not detailed explanations.
Glad you caught the avatar problem. I was getting ready to help with it, but I noticed your edit =)
Regarding the cron job, if you have a Linux server, you have to stick it into crontab either via CPanel (or whatever other admininistrative software you have running, if any) or manually. On a Windows server, I haven't seen anything resembling cron, so you'd have to execute it manually. It's simple to do, too. Just navigate to it in your web browser.
Setting it up is simple too. A quick breakdown of the variables (though I commented them so you'd know what they were):
$names - An array of names to be excluded from API key verification. For instance, my forum runs an RSS bot. I don't want him validated against the API, so I stuck his username in that array =)
$verbose - False by default. Setting this to true enables textual output so you can watch it work. Handy if it's working incorrectly, or if you are running it manually and would like to watch it work.
$group_type - Tells the cron job how you're selecting groups to validate the members of. 0 tells it to validate via the group_id as found in the phpbb_groups table. 1 tells it to check groups by name instead (useful if you do not have database access).
$groups - An array of either group IDs or group names (depending on $group_type) for the cron job to validate the members of.
Also, and this is important, if you have people who registered on your forum before the mod was installed, it is imperative that you have them enter their API information. If you were running 2.0, or somehow have users with API data but no character ID in the database, make sure you run characterid.php, as it will gather and update the character ID for every user in the database.
Hope this helps.

Cron Job works - just need to figure out what I did wrong as it failed all with Invalid API Credentials.
If your forum was already going before adding the mod, you would have had to have your members enter their API data, and afterwards, would have had to run the characterid.php script I included to populate the database with each user's character ID. The cron job uses that because it's faster than reusing getID() and doubling the API calls. Shouldn't have left the site wide open though.

It uses the groups you've got created on your forum. I plan to add a feature to have it add users to groups matching the corp name, and, failing that, to a group you select in the admin control panel. That's planned for 2.2.
Also, you can get by with entering no API data if you disable API validation. Otherwise, you have to enter the data. Otherwise, what purpose would the mod serve? That's its whole function.
Originally by: Lady Evalia i have my members register with their corp ticker in fron of their char name is that why the avatar wont load up and i cant change my api key?
Yes, that is exactly why. Usernames need to match character names exactly (that's how it gets the character ID for the API calls).

That would be unnecessary since you have to use the character name to register anyway.

1) If you upgraded by copying the files, that might cause an issue, as 2.1 is based off 3.0.4's files. Even if it works, it might have older functions and/or bugs in it from that release of the messageboard software. I would recommend making sure you've got the latest update to be sure you're running something guaranteed compatible.
2) As far as I know, it should, as phpBB would still be using the same files as it would without e107 integration. However, I cannot guarantee compatibility as I have not tested it in that environment, so applying it would be at your own risk.

Fixed a bug with the cron job that caused indefinite validation times when checking alliance memberships.
Also optimized the characterid.php and api_cron.php files a bit by removing usage of regex. Both 2.1 and 2.1.1 have been updated to include the new versions of those files =)

I am still getting a pause when running the cron job on the first valid forum member. I am working with v2.1.1 and downloaded the new files but also checked the "new" cron job included with v2.1 package and noticed that they are identical other than the date on the v2.1 is from 10/08/09 and has the id error on line 25.
If you could check that they are the updated versions that would be a real help.

Both of the archives have the current cron job in them. Neither contains the typo I had on line 25 as of this posting. The cron job is identical in both releases, as I updated both archives when I updated the cron job (since it isn't written into the actual forum software, I don't have to worry about compatibility issues).
I've also responded to your EVEMail.

Is it possible to do something like this easily:
1. Add a function (from the Admin control panel) that runs a check on all the users of the board, and remove all "roles" on everyone without an API-key attached to them?
2. Run a validation so that those that eg. leave the corp. automatically get their "roles" removed.

1) I could add that functionality. I've been halfway tempted for a bit to integrate the cron job into the admin panel as a custom module too. Would like everyone's thoughts on that idea.
2) Could add that to the cron job where you can set it to either de-activate users or remove them from the permissioned groups they're attached to.

Oh, and
3. Run a re-check so that corp-members that didn't get any "roles" get them once they're actually inside the corporation?

Point two is a fantastic idea. If a member leaves my corp, it would be cool if they could still have access to the public forums.
It would be awesome if you could basically define rules for different corps. So for example, a member of Corp X is added to Group X, and Corp Y is added to Group Y. But any other corp not defined in the rules can be added to a generic group. Or just the registered users group.
Gotta say, this is one excellent mod, Valek. It works great and I've also linked MediaWiki to the phpBB user tables too. The cool thing with that is it checks to see if a user is in a specific phpBB group. Everything is controlled through the phpBB groups. And if an account is deactivated through the cron job, it also disallows them access to the wiki. Freaking cool!
I have sent you a donation. It's not a lot, but hopefully you can buy a nice new toy with it :D

Double check your database to make sure everyone's character ID is entered in there. If it's not, please run the characterid.php file included with the archive. Also, please make sure you have the latest versions of api_cron.php and characterid.php. Last update to them was August 13th, for bugfixing and a bit of optimization.

Add a semicolon to the end of line 14. My mistake. Typoed it apparently.
Updated the archives to fix this error.

Cool that resolved the problem thanks.
Just a quick note, i know that a new account will have their character picture made their avatar. Is there a way for the current members to have there character avatar brought across or is this planned for a future release of the mod.
But great work so far.

User Crontrol Panel. Go to the Profile section, and edit your avatar settings. You'll see a checkbox that says Download next to it. Make sure that's checked and the dimension blocks are blank, and submit the form, and they'll get their character portrait.
Also, if you thin 64 x 64 is too small, but 256 x 256 is too big, set the avatar size for EVE avatars to 256 x 256, and fill the dimension blocks with 128 and 128 when you go to download the character portrait =)

Hey thanks for the great modification, though I am having trouble with running the cronjob, I have set the verification based on my Alliance, but when ever it runs, it just makes all the users in the group inactive, and they have put in their API, proof being able to retrieve their character's Avatar, even my character is getting blocked, any suggestions? P.S. I set the time to do the check 2 hours after downtime

Anoru,
I had this same problem in were all the accounts when the cron job was run got disabled.
I hadn't run the characterID.php file first to download all the character ID numbers for each account. As when the cron job runs it requires this along with the API user ID and API Key.
Try running this first and then the cron job and it should help.

Thanks you.
Ive currently got the Nonmember Group set to the default PHPBB registerd users group. Is this ok?
Also, do people have to register with their in game names?
Also, I am currently using the alliance Validation method, works. I want to also add users to another group depending on corporation as long as they pass the alliance validation.
An easy way would be to create groups with the exact same name as the corp names 1st, then let the module add them as it validates the alliance?
How can I add this?

Edited by: IceBlade Rage on 27/08/2009 01:59:11 It is fine to use registered member for the non-member group. We do that for our board currently.
As far as name, yes, currently they have to use their in-game name to register, as the mod uses this information to pick the character it needs to check.
As far as seperate groups based on corp, while checking against alliance membership. Currently you will have to do this manually, however as Valek has stated, this is something he would like to add the mod in a future version. I will check with him to see if he has any idea on a timeframe for this addition.

Ive already automated it with the cron script. Aswell as just deleting permissions instead of disabling the account.

What do I have to change in the cronjob to make it not so ******ed? I would like it to just move whatever user is no longer in the corp/alliance to the registered users section instead of making them inactive accounts, that was a dumb idea in my opinion, but anyway, I would like some guidance on that one lol

Hi all, I can see that this is no longer in production, but I am hoping someone can help me anyway. i installed this mod onto our forums and had no troubles at all. I told all current members to add thier API Keys and then ran the charid.php file. I believe there are some that have still not entered thier API Keys, but I ran the cron anyway. I simply ran it in my browser with debug on. As soon as I run it the message Validation process completed successfully! comes up instantly, but it does not check any accounts at all, that message is all that displays. I have tried a few different settings but the cron still only runs instantly and displays this message straight away. Any ideas.

I know that development has stopped but maybe someone else had this issue and they have an answer:
I finally updated the api_cron with the fixed file, and ran it today to try and clear out a member i know has left my corp. Was trying to verify that all worked. However, it removed the members of the other corps in the alliance that has a different user group and kept the guy who is no longer in my corp.... yea odd. Any ideas?

Check the cron_api.php file, it contains a few arrays that you WILL need to fill out (use phpMyAdmin or any other tool that you can do lookups with) and add those into the array - ONLY those tagged there will be checked. The default is group 7, which may or may not exist on your forum.
In short, you need to read a bit further down in the api_cron.php file to find out what it really does, not just blindly running it.
Example:
Quote:
// Array of names to be excluded from validation cycle. $names = Array('Mark Galean');
// Verbose / debug mode toggle. Turn on if you're running it manually and want to watch it work, or if something's incorrect and you're looking for errors. $verbose = true;
// Group type // 0 = Identified by group ID // 1 = Identified by group name $group_type = 0;
// Array containing groups to validate. $groups = Array(349,352,362,364,366);
The above would ignore "Mark Galean" as a user, then do verifications on groups with ID 349, 352, 362, 364 and 366 (found in the phpbb_users table (or similar). The groups checked above for me is specific registered usergroups, so do not just copy/paste. If you set $group_type = 1 you will need to type the full name of the group(s) you want to verify users in. --

Ok this is working great for me. Im sending so iskies to you. thanks.. IF you are still modifying this I would like to have multiple corps as API-Entity For example
Alliance "The Mobs" Corp 1 - Blam Gams - PHPBB3 Group - Blam Gams Corp 2 - Purs strings - PHPBB3 Group - Purs strings Corp 3 - Simple simon - PHPBB3 Group - Simple simon Corp 4 - Cran Cerry - PHPBB3 Group - Cran Cerry Corp 5 - mincers - PHPBB3 Group - mincers
No Corp - All others and people who have left - PHPBB3 Group - Registered Public
This means with an alliance board then all corps can have their own private area on the forms where they can only see.

EDIT: Things i've read is to usea cURL function. Programming noob I am i have not figured this out yet.
To use the cURL do the following: In includes/function_users.php find
/** * Gets the ID for the specified username. * * @param string $username The username for the account to be created. * @param bool $updatename Flag for whether to update the username's capitalization during registration. * @return the character's ID. */ function getID(&$username, $updatename = false) { $url = "http://api.eve-online.com/eve/CharacterID.xml.aspx?names=".urlencode(stripslashes($username)); $xml = simplexml_load_string(file_get_contents($url)); $id = (string) $xml->result->rowset->row[0]->attributes()->characterID; if($updatename) { $username = (string) $xml->result->rowset->row[0]->attributes()->name; } return $id; } Add before
/** * Fetches filecontent from the interwebz */ function curl_get_file_contents($request) { $c = curl_init(); curl_setopt($c, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); curl_setopt($c, CURLOPT_URL, $request); return curl_exec($c); curl_close($c); }
After you've done this replace all occurrences of "file_get_contents" with "curl_get_file_contents". This works with 3.0.5. However on 3.0.6 there's something that messing things up, can't get the API info to download properly any longer. Came here looking for a solution heh.

This code is in "function validatechar($user_row, $charid)". This probably isn't the prettiest or best way to fix this code-wise, but it seems like it's working and thats what matters to me. Thought I'd share in case someone else ran into this problem as well.
EDIT: If anyone from CCP sees this. Find whomever is in charge of programming the forums, give em a whack behind the head and tell em to fix the code tag, the letters are way to big!!!

Question about the cronjob.
Currently when i test it anyone not in the corp is set to inactive. I would rather have it just remove them from the special group for members. We have users not in the corp that post on our forums.
So if someone could help me edit the cronjob to just remove the member from the private member group, an isk donation is in store.
I know the group numbers, i'm just a rookie at setting up cron jobs and having it run query's on stuff.
If it helps, non member groups are 7 and member group is 8.
Thanks again!

Hey Everyone,
I'm not sure if support on this mod still exists but I'll ask anyways.
I applied the above fixes to the functions_user.php which made some of my errors go away. But anytime I put an API key in and hit submit I end up at a blank page with nothing on it. "http://website.com/ucp.php?mode=register"
I'm not really sure what I'm doing but if someone could help that would be awesome.
Thanks, Adahy

I recently tried adding this mod to my own forums, and the only thing I have not been able to get working so far is the new user registration. If I attempt to register a new user (at the ForumRoot/ucp.php?mode=register url), the terms of use shows correctly (with the extra info about the API use at the bottom), but clicking on the "I agree" button brings me to the next page (same url), with nowhere to enter the API data. The user can fill all fields, but when attempting to create the account, it fails because the API data is blank.
I copied over all files from the archive to the board (v3.0.5), which formerly had no mods installed. I'll throw some isk at whoever can help me find a solution to this issue (it should be pretty simple, I think). Also, if anyone is interested in adding features to this, I'll compensate you for your time.
Thanks,
MWGemini

Fatal error: Call to a member function attributes() on a non-object in /home/minor/public_html/forum/includes/functions_user.php on line 155
I researched it to be related to the php.ini not having allow_url_fopen on. The host provider said this can't be changed. Is there a work around or am i boned?
This was 2.1.1 installed onto a fresh phpbb 3.0.5
EDIT: Things i've read is to usea cURL function. Programming noob I am i have not figured this out yet.
To use the cURL do the following: In includes/function_users.php find
/** * Gets the ID for the specified username. * * @param string $username The username for the account to be created. * @param bool $updatename Flag for whether to update the username's capitalization during registration. * @return the character's ID. */ function getID(&$username, $updatename = false) { $url = "http://api.eve-online.com/eve/CharacterID.xml.aspx?names=".urlencode(stripslashes($username)); $xml = simplexml_load_string(file_get_contents($url)); $id = (string) $xml->result->rowset->row[0]->attributes()->characterID; if($updatename) { $username = (string) $xml->result->rowset->row[0]->attributes()->name; } return $id; } Add before
/** * Fetches filecontent from the interwebz */ function curl_get_file_contents($request) { $c = curl_init(); curl_setopt($c, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); curl_setopt($c, CURLOPT_URL, $request); return curl_exec($c); curl_close($c); }
After you've done this replace all occurrences of "file_get_contents" with "curl_get_file_contents". This works with 3.0.5. However on 3.0.6 there's something that messing things up, can't get the API info to download properly any longer. Came here looking for a solution heh.
EDIT: The bug with 3.0.6 is seems to be that nonmember characters can't register. I'm messing around with this trying to figure out why.
EDIT 2: Figured it out :) The error was that if you had the mod set to Alliance as Validation Method and had non-member registration on, characters not in an alliance would not be able to register. This probably apply if it's running on phpBB 3.0.5 aswell. The fix is quite simple.
Fix in next post!
I have tried this fix on a fresh 3.05 install, and i now get this error "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /home/evolution/public_html/forum/includes/functions_user.php on line 165"

I'm not sure if this is allready fixed, but i see in acp_users.php you forgot to get character id before validating charater, so api allways fails when you try to edit user profile, just add this before validation:
$charid = ($data['username']) ? getID($data['username']) : getID($user->data['username']); if(!$charid) { $error[] = $user->lang['INVALID_CHAR_NAME']; } if (!sizeof($error)) { //validation goes here }

Same here. The mod wasn't updated to support 3.0.6, so I'd imagine that would be the problem.
In any case, I cannot seem to open the XML file whatsoever. IE 8 spits out this:
Quote:

Edit: Apparently I didn't read all of the OP.
Works perfectly for my on 3.0.6, check if you have any other mods installed.. and if you do, don't just copy api mod files over yours.. follow instal.xml rules, modify files by hand.

Edited by: Freeholder Joe on 29/01/2010 19:37:33 Ok so I didn't read all of this to see if this has already been explained, but sinec this guy just asked...
The problem with getting the mod xml to load has nothing to do with internet explorer. It's because the xml file is encoded as UTF-8 with BOM instead of just UTF-8.. The rest are encoded in ANSI.... Using notepad++ I opened all files and saved as UTF-8. Everything works fine, regardless of browsers.
Cheers!

We need to start a GoogleCode or sourceforge repository so that this will have some structure.

Note: On a vanilla PHPBB3, install the older version (3.0.5) first, apply the mod, then patch it using the upgrade package from the website. By the way, this is my signature.

Edited by: Keil Sonter on 18/04/2010 17:17:08 Hi,
I have this mod working using the modified ProSilver style that accompanied the mod.
I want to use a different style (DarkSky) and there are several files that need changing in the new style including ucp_register.html
I'm a bit wary of doing this until I'm sure of all the files that require modification in the new style.
Has anyone else done this with an alternative style and could supply me with a list of the files that need the mod applied.
It may be quicker to modify the theme colours for Prosilver but if its a simple enough change that's needed then I'd like to have both styles functional.
Thanks for any assistance supplied.
