Does a Crow using rockets with rockets 5, missile launcher ops 5 plus associated skills to fly a Crow (caldari frigate 5 and evasive maneuvring 5) outdamage a Kestrel with the same skills using kinetic rockets?

Damage wise, the Kestrel will do more damage because it has a 4th missile slot, the Crow only has 3 and they both have same missile bonusses.
The Crow would be able to outrun the missiles, whereas the Kestrel might have more trouble with that.
So raw damage wise, the Kestrel does more(not counting the turret on the crow)

Doesn't the 25% ROF bonus for the Crow make up for the lack of a 4th launcher slot though?

Since the kestrel bonus is 5% launcher RoF/kinetic missile damage per level, I don't think it does...

D'oh.
I thought Kestrel bonus was 5% range of missiles and kinetic damage.

Ask optics how to fly a crow and how to deal with kessies :) I had some nice clash with him, and he suprised my invincible kessie a lot :)

Glad to know a Kestrel has a chance at a Crow though ... I'd have thought a Crow would beat a Kestrel hands down due to speed (missile avoidance), locking time (first salvo), and general beefiness.
Going to be awhile til I have the skills to fly one, and Kessies are much cheaper anyways for learning in meantime. In anycase, I don't hunt alone if I can help it, rookie that I am.

If you're good with frigs and interceptors a Crow will take a Kestrel any day. If you're not that good with frigs and interceptors I will take you in my Kestrel any day.
The RoF on rockets together with kinetic damage at lvl-5 will eat through most frigs/ceptors in a flash. But a direct comparison I guess would give the kessie the win with 4 missiles at what, 130+ damage/missile? However, thats only if you shoot one round, if you keep the rockets going you will have like 20 rockets in the air at the same time the Kestrel has 4 or 5 missiles...
If any one wants to try it out, check with my mate Illumino, hes pretty bad ass with the Crow.

I'm only asking because I've just finished Rockets 5 and I'm about to train Evasive Maneuvring 5.
I'll be training Small Hybrid 5 as part of an effort to specialise in Large Railguns and I am considering leaving the Kestrel as my Caldari missile frigate of choice but instead training Gallente frigate 5 in order to use a Taranis.
It'd save time training, I guess, especially if a Kestrel is a decent damage dealer.

IMO, the kestrel is the best pvp frigate hands down. It's no crow though, it lacks speed. That and it can't warp very far before running out of cap.
If i was you i'd probably train up gallente. The taranis is a wicked ship. If you have mech V, you can use the enyo as well. IMO, that ship is gonna wtfpwn. ________________________________________________________

I'm a complete noob, but after watching a battle between my friend in his kestrel against a crow, I do have something to say.
It all depends on the players really.
My friend was being chased by a Crow in his kestrel. Crow got way too close as the kestrel was running and hammered it with missiles... Needless to say... He was pretty close to losing, but he managed to pod the crow. All crow's should really stay 10-15k out imo where its to their complete advantage.
This is just from my observations.

Both of em can outrun missiles with ease. I think the Crow will win since the kessie wotn be abel to hit it with missiles.

I killed over 5 kestrels in 2 days by just orbiting them at 15 km.Their missiles got loose trying to catch me and every missile of mine hit, needless to say they died in like 10 secs.Well not sure if all those 5 kestrels were n00bs,but they were there
