Why are there movement limitations to the map?! What is the point? Just remove them! I need to be able to rotate it any way I need to! Arrrgh!

That's because of Gimbal lock. The same applies for your camera inspace too. But yeah, you are obviously interested in my post because you're now reading my signature. |

The new map is ... well all words i can find are filtered.
Lets just say its worse then the first Map in Beta. Yep. I cant find the option to zoom in on other Regions. Thats just weak. If it even exists anymore, its well hidden. Its also much more difficult to use it for planning travel routes, the whole map machanic is now even more user unfriendly then "trash ship" next to "activate ship"...

There are movement limits on the map for the same reason there are movement limits on the ship's camera and the same reason ships do belly-flops in space instead of turning to fly "upside down."
EVE is a 2.9D game, not a fully 3D game. The same way Doom was more of a 2.5D game than a true 3D game because it couldn't support creative architecture such as bridges you could walk on and under.
I mean I can understand this sort of constraint in a game like World of Warcraft where it'd make no sense to keep looking "up" and "up" until you're looking "behind" you (switching from a 45 degree view to a 225 degree view without turning around) but in a space game like EVE not being able to do so makes as little sense and the only reason I can think of is that there's a technical limitation in the graphics engine which limit's the game's ability to be a truly 3D game. ____________________

This is some pretty interesting stuff that hasn't crossed my mind, guess you learn something new everyday.
I could only imagine how hard it would be to remove such a limitation, and also I would think that removing this would also change the way you ship turns in space. This would be a headache in a half to overcome
