The game proper is played on one server, however there are some testing/devlopment servers.
There is no such cmd.

Eve uses a cluster of physical servers to create a single game world. Logically, yes, you log in to one server (Tranquility). Physically, there are more than one server linked together. I'm sure that someone else will post after me with "another way to explain it." But the above is correct to my knowledge. Enjoy your noobhood and good luck!

I belive the correct term would be EVE is entirely on one 'shard', which consists of multiple physical servers.
Simply put though 100% of all players are on the same shard.

You can log in to the test server (SISI)and try out dangerous/crazy/expensive/plain stupid stuff for free. Everything is 1 isk or something. Used it myself a few times, very usefull.

Eve Online is pretty unique there's one primary cluster, and even at peak there are no instances, divides, or splits so familiar faces in familiar ships can occur quite often, wherever you tread, wherever your mission adventures have lead.
There's also a server for those in the east (Local rules demand a whole different beast!) Where in the west we have our Tranquility The cluster for China is called Serenity but for most intents, just one fact remains: You can potentially meet anyone in the game.

there are actually four servers.
Tranquility is the main one. there is where you play the game. Serenity is the chinese server. the chinese government Does Not Approve of its citizens getting unregulated contact with the rest of the world, so CCP had to give them their own server. Singularity is the test server. any player with a reigstered account can use this server. it has betas of th next patch loaded on it, and every item costs 100 isk, which makes it easy to find bugs. a lot of people use it to test setups for expensive ships like carriers etc. Multiplicity is a deep beta server, i dont know who uses it, or how to access it. but i suspect it would be too unstable for reasonable play.

Check the Game Development Forum, it is all about the test server.

ok... the game proper runs on one *cluster* made of meny computers working together, like a supercomputer.... meny processers, probably a few frames, but only one 'soul'
the development server sisi and the chineese server afik run on seperate clusters, but theres no reason why they couldent run on LPAR's of the production cluster.
