I have a Sniper Rokh that i'm currently fitting. I want to give it enough defence to withstand 1 titan doomsday hit. (70k eff hitpoints)
I could fit it with a shield defense strategy (large shield extenders II/ Invulnerability II/Core Defense Extender rigs), or an armor defense strategy (1600 plates/EAMN II/Trimark rigs). I have a good fit for either Shield or Armor defense.
My question is this: If i go with an armor defense strategy does that impact my "align speed" / maneuverablity?
For example, my Rokh jumps through a gate, then needs to very quickly align and warp off -- will i notice a significant difference between an armor or shield tanked battleship?
I know Trimark rigs will reduce my top speed. 1600 plates will add mass to my ship. But how significant a "align speed" / maneuverablity difference will i notice between a shield defense or armor defense strategy?
One final question: at 150k if sniper battleships are fighting, what are the most common damage types i will be receiving?
Thanks!

This is strictly EFT warrioring here, but according to EFT, my Rokh at my current skills has a 14.3 second align time. Adding a 1600mm plate in the lows changes that to 14.7 seconds. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Edited by: Omara Otawan on 08/04/2009 18:49:32 On a battleship the impact on agility of a single 1600mm RTP isnt that strong, quite noticeable with triple plated setups though.
If you fit 1600mm plates to cruisers or battlecruisers however, even a single plate will make it maneuver like a brick chained to a mountain.
Edit: the effect is based on mass addition from the plates, thats why oversized plates have a huge impact on cruisers, compare base mass of your ship hull with the mass addition from the plate for a cruiser and a BS.

Well first, armor plates adds mass to your ship, and shield extenders adds signature. So with more mass you will accelerate and align slower, with more signature you will get locked faster and will be hit more easily.
You will notice a difference in align times with plate, but not like twice longer. Maybe 10-20% longer with two plates on, just to throw numbers.
Most common damage types, have a look a T2 long range ammos: Ammar lasers : EM/Therm Gallente hybrids : Kin/Therm Minmatar projectiles: Explo/Kin Caldari missiles: 0 dmg / Kin Caldari hybrids: Kin/Therm
So the most common types in fleet are Kinetic and Thermal.
All this being said, dont armor tank your Rokh unless you know what your doing and have a plan. I.E: for remote rep reasons.

TBH I don't really see the need to go with an armor tank unless you're going for a blaster rohk. With a shield tank on a sniper rohk you get virtually the same tank, but with a passive recharge, you are more agile, and you can fit 3 mag stabs without gimping tank.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but IMO if you go with armor you will either have a tank and bad DPS or a low tank and higher DPS...

If you have carrier support, shield tank your rokh, but if you're going into a cynojammed system and you have to fight snipers on a bubbled gate, do what your FC tells you to fit for (usually armor tanks, but I feel sniper ships work best with shield tanks and damage mods, or better yet each fitting his ship optimally). Odds are you will be aligned out somewhere at the start of the fight, and the half second difference won't matter on a battleship with a plate or two on, as you're either caught in a bubble and unable to warp, get alphaed by 200+ battleships or are doomsdayed and can't warp out in time due to lag.

Thanks everyone for your perspectives. It was valuable to hear about how plates affect align speed based on their mass.
One follow-up question. What about trimark armor rigs? How do they impact the situation where my Rokh jumps through a gate and needs to align quickly and warp off on the other side? Will having a lower max speed affect the align/warpoff?
Thanks, Hadrumetum |

No, only things that affect align time are agility/mass.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

No. Your ship will warp at 75% of top speed, regardless of the top speed of the ship.

I shield tank mine, seems to work out better wince we rarely use RR in our sniper fleets, just doesn't work in the lag.
Anyways, noticed today that most of the dual/tripple plated and tripple trimarked BS were moving faster than my Rokh (and i have spaceship command 5, nav 5 etc). Guess thats all part of the caldari mass nerf from when you could stack propulsion mods etc.. :/
Maybe someone should swing the buffbat in that direction... LOL
