Watching the trailer brings back memories of playing X3 and thinking how wonderful it would be if they ever made a MMO out of it.
Imagine a game where pilot's skill actually mattered again like tachyon the fridge because lets face it alot of people in EVE know they just can't hang with people who can play with twitch skills (just ask any old guy in your fleet who says he wouldn't like EVE if it were joystick compatible, because he'd be outclassed.)
Everyone has their niche. Some guys think that, because they are young and still have a good bit of hand-eye coordination, they are obviously superior. And so, they'll stick with the genre of games that makes them look better.
Very rarely do you have the Micheal Jordans ... the guys who are absolutely great at one thing, but still put their all into doing something they are miserable in, like baseball. Most people are smart enough to stick with what they are good at.
So, you justify that, if ONLY you could play a twitch-based starship game, you would prove that you are better than those other pilots. The problem with that logic, though, is EvE is the field your currently in, and EvE's the game you are currently playing. If you suck at this game, then you suck.
If you want to tote how much you win at something else, then by all means. Just don't take yourself too seriously when the people who are old and wise enough to stick with what they enjoy, don't come over and let your punk self dominate them in a game they don't feel like playing, heheheh ....
Never said that I was superior to anyone else in twitch based games even though the way it was typed may have unintentionally infered it. Was just saying ALOT may or may not try it because they'd basically tell themselves from get go its twitch based skill i'll be outclassed.
And I don't know what the proving thing u said has to do with my post at all?

Even on Apocrypha we had people whinning on the forums that their Dinosaur-Tronic 2300 XLS couldn't run the game anymore.
I mean, c'mon people, a capable card nowadays costs about 60$. Couple Gb of RAM is another 50$ish . And you're all set for a while.
EDIT: On another, totally unrelated topic... HOLY FREAKING GUANO, I've been waiting for a decent space shooter game ever since I fell in love with Tachyon: The Fringe. Looks like this is it! Thanks for pointing me out to that link OP, I love you long time!

Another person who has actually played Tachyon: The Fringe!!!!!!!!!
I never really played the whole game, but the demo that came with my copy of the first Delta Force game, I was like, ten years old. It, was, AWESOME!
Anyone know if it's abandonware?
I have the game and it was awesome! Might have been a great MMO in the right time. It was also one of the first games to have a celebrity do voices... Bruce Campbell was the did the voice acting for the main character. *-------------------------* PoX IS Eve!!! BOOM!!! |

Jumpgate: Evolution is published by codemasters. I've bought a number of their games and even though the dev is another company I'm still really skeptical. They all look great graphics wise but the gameplay was always junk. *-------------------------* PoX IS Eve!!! BOOM!!! |

The ideas from the game like having the planets seem larger (or have us warp in closer) is a neat idea, maybe rework belts to give them some more vastness type feeling? And the collisions I guess could be upgraded from us just going *whump* against each other. The idea for more detailed ship explosions would be awesome, maybe have the model break apart/burn/spark all that good stuff...I thought I remember seeing that on a old EVE video test somewhere...
I do love the improvements that have been made and I know it'll only get better so is it possible some of these things we see in other games that look great might get added to EVE?
And these 2 games are very different. EVE is highly indepth and on a much broader scale than being in a FPS fighter sim, but fighter sims are always fun for that slamming the joystick around and pulling the trigger. So it's really up to personal taste on that.

Once EVE is fully upgraded *cough* I am sure it will compete graphically with the new contenders for sure, I think EVE will still have the best looking ships from what I can see. None of the ships I have seen in these new games really impress me like some of the EVE designs. One thing though, I believe JGE and BP have added a core element to their games... Sound.

Edited by: Sirani on 10/04/2009 03:56:33 It looks pretty amazing, i'll definetly try it out.
I think EVE could be a much better game if only they would hurry up and add stuff. Walking in stations should have been added years ago, we should be looking forward to walking on planets and having a whole secondary game on foot. The UI needs a complete overhaul, when you look at Black Prophecys UI you can really see what we are missing.. EVE's UI is just a complex and buggy web browser that pulls data from databases.
Ok sure, all UI's do that, but EVE does it so blatantly obvious we might aswell have a status bar that says "loading DB queries" and stuff like that, deleted an item? "clearing DB row"
It's been said before and i'll say it again; it's spreadsheets in space, and they need to get away from that whole 'feeling' and turn it more into a game.

so much for EVE's graphical update, eh? EVE graphics are a joke compared to this, compare their Suns (first image) to ours, the blinding balls of light, it's really so much better and I don't think EVE will ever look that good. You can't even make EVE come close when you force 8xAnti-Aliasing (which the base game doesn't even support, haha) ------------------- |

... except at least the the first two images look to be based heavily on prerendered textures for the background star/planet as opposed to actual 3D objects (since you feel the need to call out the stars) and in all cases the ships look bland. Also, IIRC Jumpgate has yet to release their promised beta. Woot? ----
