Edited by: PaulLRyan on 25/08/2004 18:04:16 It's a personal oppinion but I think the rifer is the best tech 1 ship to have fun in. Previous posters have covered the set-ups but I used to use (from memory)...
2x200mm 2xmissile launcher 10MN Afterburner - Go for the 1MN MWD if you have fitting problems something that I forget in the other med slot (it used to change a lot) Then a couple of cap relays in the lows.
It takes a bit of practice to get used to them and you will loose a few but don't let that put you off.
Also, having used them for a while, if you like them then think about training for the claw (Intercepter). It's a lot of training but it's all useful for the Rifter you will be flying anyway. I view my claw as simply a boosted Rifter and with a bit of practice you can do all lvl3 kill missions in one including the 550K dudes that show up from time to time. I also prefer to fly that than any of the cruisers of Battleships I've owned.
If you need any help then mail me in-game and I'll see what I can do.

Oh yeah and the micro Aux power core is very useful but again it will take you a bit if training to be able to use them. Forget the 10MN AB as you probably will not be able to fit one without the micro aux. |

AB = Afterburner MWD = Micro Warp Drive
they both come in 3 sizes.
1MN, 10MN, 100MN
They fit frigates, cruisers and battleships respectfully although at the moment you can fit a larger AB than your ship size.
Like I said - mail or contact me in game if you ever need help.

Oooops - I'm in the wrong thread here. This is a claw tactic and I'm not sure if it will work with the Rifter. I'll leave it in anyway but it comes with no warranty!!!

Not sure if it's the best option or not but it's what I do.
Orbit at 500m (although you get thrown out to about 1000m because of your speed). I use 2 missiles launchers and 2 200mm autocannons with phased plasma shells. I switch off the AB (depending on what I've got fitted) and just use the claws natural speed. I still don't get hit much by guns but I do get hit by missiles. As long as there are not more than about 4 or 5 light missile spammers or 2 heavy missile spammers then I can tank the damage by running a named armour repairer.
I probably hit more often than not and get the odd hit up to about 80-90 damage.
I've thought about loosing a launcher and fitting another autocannon but against big spawns I use the missiles to cut the numbers down before I switch off the AB and tear things apart with the guns.
