Edited by: Juilan on 10/04/2009 03:49:39 A. I love CCP and the games they make, and I plan on trying/playing the World of Darkness MMO.
B. I love space games, not CCP. A World of Darkness MMO does not interest me.
C. Whatever clever remarks all of you will think of.
Personally... I'm a big fantasy fan, probably more-so than Sci-Fi (but EVE is amazing), so I'm VERY excited about this, and am a little surprised there's not a little more discussion on it around here (I know there's not a lot of info right now).

There's not much to discuss. It's too early in the game's development to talk about anything other than the fact it's being worked on. No details have been released.

I am a big fan of the "original" World of Darkness. The people who have been around WhiteWolf for a while will know what I'm talking about. I feel like the recent products have lost some of what made the RPGs great.
That said, I am very interested in what WhiteWolf and CCP are putting together. Hopefully I'll be able to turn into a twelve foot tall, feral, fuzzy beast of war and rip apart some life-mocking leeches.

I'd go for A. At least i'll get some info on this, since CCP proven their skills in Eve, it might become a good Mmo. Of course there is lot's of competition in the fantasy mmo-genre, but i still don't seem many fantasy games with a good pvp, with that i mean meaningful pvp, not just having little rep costs and waking up at a graveyard. I just hope they don't make another wow clone mmo (level to level 60/70/80 by grinding and questing, then raid for gear which is frequently obsolete due the introduction of new top gear, have some meaningless pvp in battleareas), the next "wow-killer mmo", that fails right at launch.

Andra comment is valid for me too, but I think it is very hard to make a WOD game work as a MMORPG, especially in the old version.
One of the key points in WOD is that the player has a problems about controlling the universe around him. There are always entities that can rule/thwart you and more important force at least partially you to live respecting at least formally the rules they set.
That is a limitation that will anger a lot of the usual MMORPG players and will require a lot of PvE content. It is not possible to give the kind of power a prince of a city has and at the same time avoid the player abuses that will follow, not only by the player controlling the prince, but by the other players too.
In the pen and paper WOD the ruling hierarchies can be challenged only with extreme care and prudence, in a MMORPG a group like the Goons will simply gather a large mob of new characters, accept that they will be losing 9/10 of them and go around overthrowing the game structures without any thought on the effect on the game architecture.
Same thing for werewolves and wyrm servants and so on.
On the other side, if the developers don't some level of change the game will become static extremely fast.
Finding a balance that will work without putting a straitjacket to the game seem a impossible challenge to me.

TBH I find the whole vampire thing really annoying. I really cant understand the attraction of whiny, self-obsessed, self-pitying moops.
oh wait, I think I get it...
Probably I'm being unfair, but the truth is I'm 100x more interested in seeing Ambulation leading to station/planetside interaction in EvE than in WoD.

Edited by: Korerin Mayul on 10/04/2009 08:14:53 if its WoD and not just 'Emo the Whining', ill hit up the beta and roll a warewolf or mage, or fay, remember them?
i havent touched WoD since Ghenna so i will have no idea how much they will have to butcher the system to get it operable, but if it was VTM or the old versions, the supernaturals are heanously broken and couldent work together in the same design.
honestly, id hate to be working on the design for this, so much of whats in WoD will have to be fundimentally re-examined to work with the MMO formatt. That said, if theres one company who can really work fear into an mmo its CCP.
*edit, added wall of text.

CCP does not have fanboyz as such, not enough of a portfolio
That said, WoD is a completely different genre catering to another type/breed of player so I doubt there will be much in the way of players switching games. Does have a lot of potential with warring faction and factions within factions at odds .. lots of PvP if done right.

C.
To make a proper WoD game is insanely difficult unless you throw out everything that's interesting about the world and settle for something along the lines of Vampire — the horrid diablo clone.
WoD is based on storytelling (in the sense of telling your own story), on conspiracy, power struggles, despotism, and just some entirely subjective and illusionary good-vs-evil (ie. I'm good for arbitrary reason A; the enemy is evil for arbitrary reason B; in reality we both kill people by the hundreds just because we can).
…I can't see anyone other than CCP pull a proper WoD game off because it's basically what we already have in EVE. If they choose to go in that direction, I'm on — if they go in the diablo direction, they can take a running jump off a cliff. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in =v=… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

From what I'm aware, in the newest WoD, Malkavians don't exist. Vampire: The Requiem doesn't have them.
So unless they're making the mmo after the old books, probably not. That said, I'm probably with you, I'd love playing a malkavian.

Wut! This is an outrage. I loved playing Malkavian, they are by far the most entertaining bloodline to play.

I love oWoD, not really seem much from nWoD, but I'm hopeful.
Don't think I will play the MMO, though - as I don't have the time and money to play both Eve and WoD, and I love eve too much to quit :(

There haven't been any development anouncements etc relating to WoD, so I'd assume they're not even close to release. A project like that will take years and there's not much sense in getting excited about it right now.

Edited by: Mihali on 10/04/2009 10:53:04 I LARP in OWbN(One World by Night). We still use oWoD rules. The new rules & setting just doesn't have that spark that the old rules & setting do. I'll check out the game CCP is making, but I don't think it'll do as good as EvE.
Oh, Malkavians & Ravnos don't exist in the nWoD.

I wont play this game. It's sad when game developers like ccp and funcom just turn their coats and start making fantasy. Instead of making fantasy we should be destroying it with our guns and superiour technology. Who wants to se another fantasy mmo anyways? seriously? |

This is excactly how the Sabbath make war on the Camarilla, creating hordes of vampires and swarming their cities.
And I don't consider WoD a fantasy setting. It will have cars and guns and stuff. No elves and dwarfs and crap.
And AFAIK it's only going to be vampires to begin with

Why would CCP want to make another SF MMO?

Edited by: Jake Oman on 10/04/2009 12:43:57 In the World of Darkness, monsters are very rare. A city might have no more than 20 vampires. There shouldn't be thousands of vampires openly running around in the same place. So I wonder how they're going to handle this.
The old World of Darkness MUSHes solved this by having all players start out as humans. Then they could apply to be a supernatural creature. That didn't go over well back then, and with paying players, I doubt that's going to work for a MMO.
Also, one of the things that made White Wolf's games unique was their emphasis on role-playing. I don't know if they can enforce that in a MMO. I can just picture running into a very powerful vampire, and he says, "I sux! LOL!"

I personally will never touch any other game that has CCP involvment....EVE is a fantastic game, but CCP are the worst game developers i have ever seen in my long gaming life.
Their inability to fix simple problems is just mind blowing...one month out from the last expansion and still no sound ? still people crashing out of the game regularly ?...you would expect a certain number of issues...but to leave your flagship game with no sound for one month and counting, when you have just released it in stores for the first time is just unbelievable.
So no...i would never touch any game produced by CCP...ever.
