I'm wondering if it would be beneficial to use with a Maelstrom/Tempest or two, or would it simply be more beneficial to bring just another DPS ship?

Scimitar will get primaried if it's just that and a Battleship. Scimitar is fine on its own as a shield repping vessel even if the Basilisk is much more useful since it gets the shield/energy bonus instead of shield/tracking link. I recently invested a large amount of ISK in a Basilisk because I couldn't do a viable Scimitar setup for the purpose we wanted. Shortly thereafter I converted my Scimitar into a purely PvP setup that I chase after frigates with when bored (haven't caught any yet )

The scimitar is gold worth in a cruiser sized gang, not so much with bs tho. -

My assumption (assumption only seeing as how I've never flown one) is Shield X-fer would be very useful just like any other boosting/repping service. My main thought though was actually for the Tracking links seeing as how it can boost maximum range and the Ship gets a bonus to them as well. I figured that would be very useful for snipers or general just for helping ships keep range combined with dampeners.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 10/04/2009 08:28:13 The only thing about the tracking links being used to support snipers is that sniper vessels tend to have onboard tracking computers/enhancers already. If they rely on a third party (tracking link projecting Scimitar) to get their range out to what is desirable and that Scimitar goes down then the sniper component of the fleet becomes useless until they can close to a better range.
The tracking links would however be useful in reducing the effectiveness of sensor damps, to a degree. It probably isn't going to benefit the gang as much as shield transfers though, since sensor dampeners have to be fired reasonably close to the target (well under sniper BS weapon range) anyway, giving the battleships time to kill the Arazu/Celestis/Keres/whatever from 150km away before they can be hit with the damps.

if the scim is playing support for a sniper wing, then they should be running tracking scripts not range scripts. The effectiveness of hits would increase drastically, but if the scim is lost, there is no significant drawback to the fleet.
for pve. another dps ship. (try a RR/sentry domi with tracking links).

The Scimitar is a very viable solo Logistics ship. The potential for a good buffer, tiny sig radius, high speed and cap stability make it the best of the bunch for joining a small gang as the only Logistics present.
The Basilisk and Guardian are both better in twin energy x-fer setups but their lower mid/low count cripples them as solo boats.

Great ship for use with nano-gangs. See Triumvirate version 2 and 3 for examples. sXe |

2x tracking link applied to a blaster BS turns it into pure win.

Once came across a Drake and Scimitar combo, their tank was just nasty. Not sure, but I think they were repping each other, not just the Scimitar. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

Its most likey the best solo logstic's ship its fast cap stable and can remote rep alot all at once.
If used right most of the time your to fast for the enemy to catch you and if they do then your gang will kill them befor your passive tank fails unless your outnumberd by alot. Death is great rember where all dying to get there. |
