From my view the only thing that would make these new cruisers worthwhile would be some unique mods or bonuses that would allow these ships to both support and surive in a fire fight.
For example:
Built in or mod based defence systems.
The ship has a set of mods that can only be fitted to a support cruiser that will give a percentage chance of a certain type of weapon fire being stopped or defelected within a radius of the ship. To help with protect duties anything within this radius may benefit from the bonus if the cruiser gets close enough.
For example...
Magnetic Field - This field attempts to deflect hybrid charges away from the ship.
Reflective Field - This field attempts to deflect laser fire from the ship.
Gravity Field - This field attempts to deflect projectile charges away from the ship.
Point defence system - This attempts to shoot down missiles automatically that get within the range of the ship.
One of the logistic cruiser bonuses could affect how well these modules work on this ships, it would also be a good idea to make these only *****ble to support cruisers as well as have them use a reasonable amount of cap so they arent just switched on and left to run but rather need to be activated and deactived as needed meaning some actual skill is needed to be truly effectie with them.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |

What I am wondering though is? Why not just take 2 of these babies with you, then they can efectively keep eachother safe with shield/armor transfers aswell as help the rest of the fleet...
I tihnk they look like very usefull ships, and I'll prolly trai for them after I have done assault frigs.
Also they are imporved versions of the exsisting cruisers, hence the same models with a few changes only.

Yeah, take 2 amarr ones: With good skills, they can repair 16k armor/minute and won't run out of cap for 3 minutes. 6 of them would nicely mess even big fleet fight. All while being 50k from target, which would be like 110km form enemy BS. Problem is, that you need two of them, alive. And you need enemy stupid enough not to scramble you and jump few BS for mass killup.
Mobile repairshop... maybe...

Lol WTF would anyone spend time training for these gimps for? CCP goes from releasing a ship class thats overpowering in the current state of the game (Intys and Ass Frigs) to something even more gimped than a current day Tempest.. talk about swings in momentum!

correct me if im wrong, but with stupid npc pirates, wouldnt this be tremendously usefull?
Remove any need for a BB to fit its own repairers and maybe even hardners. Just have the logistic cruiser repairing/transfering from 70+k away after the bb gets aggro.

I would guess they become useful when you enter those multi-level scenarios. At least from the looks of it I would want to take a repairship with me when I fly into such a "dungeon" without the ability to get back to a base to repair.

These ships will require new "warp in" ranges, beyond 100k, to be implemented in the menues in order to stay behind the fleet, survive and take advantage of their range bonuses.

I see someone hasn't quite grasped the concept of support ships yet. I hope they boost weapons so that support ships become mandatory in large scale combat.

The people that are ****ed because of no new models:
Think of it this way. These 4 ships were the old, crappy ships of the 4 empires ready to be mothballed, but instead they decided to retrofit them with modern technology and give them a modern combat role. This is historically common and no doubt is in EVE.

with the heavy skill req, I'd take another battleship in my fleet for damage. Anyone who has the skills/cash for that will probebly have a battleship or two already.
I could see this comming into play with shiva and beyond if they ever decide to put in meaner NPC's.
Wonder how these will work with sentry tanking.

I can't see these being that useful in either very small fights or very large fights.
No amount of support ships will keep a ship alive that's being fired on by 10+ bs, so whether a support ship is more preferable to another bs to fire back is very debatable.
At the other end, 2 v 2, if one side has 2 ships shooting, and the other has one shooter and one ship keeping it alive, which would you choose ?

what would be reeaaaly interesting and would truly put them in the support crusier role is this
create a new module called remote warp core stab that work just like the normal low slot warp core stabs have it only usable on the support crusiers have it get the same bonuses each race has, as if ship gets extra range for remote repairers then it gets the same range for remote warp core stabs
this in my opinion would help fleets more than the special bonuses each get already.
any comments?
