I joined a cap op a few months ago and lost a hurricane to rats because I forgot to tab back to this guy to dock him up while I ran around on my carrier :v
I survived the siege of 6VDT in an alpha clone which was terrifying since I was in an Instacane with it's paper thin tank, and there were camps all the way home :v |

Now perhaps you begin to understand why local and structure mails need to hit the road and never come back. Those systems are all empty because there is no need to patrol them or anything. They can just sit back in one station, thousands of them, and have all the intel they need for five regions deep. Anyone so much as touches anything they own or gets anywhere remotely close they will have an armada of thousands instantly ready to counter them in a matter of a couple minutes.

you have to bear in mind - markets are focused almost exclusively in hubs in null. most player's assets are therefore in hubs or deployment stations - exceptions for assets moved to more remote / profitable regions for various moneymaking or personal reasons.
there are very, very few reasons to base yourself out of a station other than your alliance's primary hub. that doesn't mean people don't fly around looking for trouble or just doing their things.
