My latest series of Zealots are called 'Lapis Lazuli Star', 'Jade Stone' and 'Pure Ruby'. (10 mil ISK for the first person to catch the reference. EVE mail me)
Other ships I usually rename something along racial naming conventions, i.e. religious themed names for Amarr ships, animals or weapons for Matar. Like following:
Harbinger - Fervent Zeal
Armageddon - Shining Light
Claw - The Mosquito
Can't remember the rest right now.

I like to name my ships from sci fi movies. Atleast my combat ships
My megathron is called the Sulaco fron Aliens
Domi - Event Horizon and my Brutix is the Lewis & Clark, both from same movie.
Discovery One from 2001 or is it 2010.
My Itties are some form of 18 wheeler or big rig etc.
oh for fun I named my Providence "Cigar shaped UFO".

When I first started playing I couldn't see a purpose to naming ships. Kinda like vanity plates. As I started to fleet pvp in 0.0 I got in the habit of naming most of my ships. For reasons I dont recall almost all of my BS's are named for Clint Eastwood movies, frigs for cars, and cruisers and BC's for guns.

I have a strange obsession with calling my ships "Turkey", no doubt due to the fact the first ship I ever named was a Moa, calling it Turkey.
On a flipside, in my noober days, I named a Merlin "Raptor" before realising there was the caldari interceptor called Raptor

I usually create a backstory theme for each particular ship and assign it a name accordingly. Dark is Blood Raider related, Dread is Guristas, etc. Long lasted ships usually receive "Sansha" in there somewhere after a couple months.
