Why not add a new feature to the gaming apect of EVE, where you have a fuel tank with x amount of fuel that will be used over x amount of time during normal use and a increased amount of usage during MWD and AB use. This would add a level of realism to the game that could decide a fleet engagement between two forces. Also new liquid fuels could be developed that would increase the m/s of the regular engine, MWD and AB when used. A small fuel gauge would need to be added on the HUD and would ding when it was near being empty. This would also another item for the manufacturers to research and design as well as needing new skills.

Read the backstories before posting any more crazy ideas, please. It is explained there that ships have an advanced propulsion system (don't make me actually find out what kind of technology that they call it) but it is explained why we don't need 'fuel'. It's been awhile since i read it and am too lazy to look through the stories to find it. ------------------------------------

Cool idea in theory, but would quickly become a PITA.

Those are the jump drives. I'm sure that there was one that mentioned an ion drive or a fusion fueled core....mind is drawing a blank ------------------------------------

simple make fuel tanks so large it would take few days of constant flying before you ran out of fuel.
And just make it so when you do run out of fuel, your ship just travels at 25% of your normal speed.
It would add in corporations that become the shell, chevron, Arco, etc of space. *********** Dasfry, Director Demio's Corporation

Edited by: Dryson Bennington on 21/04/2009 15:10:07 It would allow new corporations to build up a new business as well as adding a new corporate module to the already existing module that they have.
All ships run on some sort of fuel that requires some form of combustion so I dont want to hear this non-sense about that it is an advanced propulsion system. You have to have some sort of fuel and reaction to make a thrust. No thrust No go.

there is a lack of consistency with the "back story" because ships don't necessarily need fuel, but POSs do. So why is it that one technology hasn't been used for another? |

You're assuming that the ships dont just pull their combustion materials from the space around them. Despite popular belief, space is not devoid of matter. There is also the possibility of antimatter.
But to stick with more in game mechanics. If you do a bit of research, Amarr use antimatter reactors, Gallente use Fusion reactors, Caldari with Graviton Reactors, and minmatar with nuclear reactors, if you look at their thrust mechanisms though, Amarr use fusion thrusters, gallente use ion thrusters, caldari use magpulse thrusters and minmatar use plasma thrusters. Most of these forms of energy are finite, but have an extremely long long life, giving you probably years worth of energy/thrust on minimal amounts of fuel.. |

I never said anything space being devoid of matter. It is just not everywhere like popualr belief's spotulate. Evev if the ships did pull the matter from space there wouldnt be enough in space to adequately fuel the ship thus requiring on board storage of fuels. Drawing fuel from space would be a last resort.
