So without implants, leadership, boosters or rigs... what is the fastest ship that could survive all the way to the acceleration gate? My Drake with BC V, 2 Invuln and a EM hardener takes about 600 dmg per wave in the beginning so I'm thinking it'd be just about impossible for anything less than an AF. But what do you think?
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

buffer speed hac, but there comes a point where swapping ships to run this quickly becomes counter intuitive what with ship swapping times.

I could not tank it with a Hawk with a Gistii B booster. So I guess a HAC is the way to go.

Yeah you're probably right about that. It's not like I'd go out of my way to use the best ship for it, as I don't got a problem doing it my Drake really (600m/s with overdrives and Corelum C-type AB). I just thought it would be fun to figure out

You can get an AF to 2.5kps by using an oversized (and overheated) AB, and if I remember the distance correctly, that means you only have to survive for 20-25 seconds… So the question is how much damage that equates to. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

I recall someone farming LP in low sec using a stabber to run recon 3/3.

I'm not particularly skilled but come out of lvl 4 recon 3/3 with 83% structure flying a stabber with a YS-8 ab, filling the rest of mid with LSE Is and lows with Overdrive Injector IIs.
The 83% figure is accurate for every time I've done it (about 4 or 5 times now).
I think if I upped my velocity a bit more with higher skills I'd be able to get through without going into structure.

Edited by: Chigger Troutslayer on 24/04/2009 13:36:29 I use a stabber similar to above... works great, t2 afterburner and LSE for rest of mids. Overdrives in lows. I have one setup just for this mission named "Recon 3of3".
Edit to add, that I get to the completion gate with 30% shields or so...

Do you guys bother with screen reinforcer rigs for the Stabber, or just burn for it? What sort of speeds are you getting there? EFT says a Stabber with a 10 MN Afterburner II gets me 1004 m/s, but I've only got Minmatar Cruiser III. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Edited by: zeepbel fairweather on 24/04/2009 15:08:01 I cross-trained to a Stabber for this mission (all 3 parts of them) and its parked in my hangar exclusively for this mission (called Recon Stabber ).
Nothing special fitted : no rigs, empty high slots. AB II, LSE, SB II in mids. 2 speedmods in lows. (will specify this when i'm back from work).
Recon 1/3 : between 98-100% shield, under 30 sec fly time. Recon 2/3 : no damage at all. Bit longer fly time to the gate and being prepared to warp to station. Recon 3/3 : if i react a bit slow 15% shield, if i pay attention 20% shield.

I didnt use a stopwatch on it, but i run all 3 within 6-7 minutes including docking etc. Declining the last 2 parts would cost me 2-3k lp's and it will bring storylines faster. So why drop it?

If you're looking for LP and standings, then I guess keep running them. Most people running L4's do it for the ISK, not for standings (run L3's for that) or LP (run L5's for that). Recon 1/3 full clear is pretty juicy in terms of ISK/hour, which is why I run it. I'd rather drop the rest and get another juicy mission instead.

Another data point:
As a casual experiment I tried it in a heavily T2-tanked punisher (no rigs), but blew up about 12 km from the gate. Based on that, I'd think an AF might have a shot at it.

THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS MISSION! IT CAN INSTA-POD YOU TO CLONE STATION IF YOUR SHIP IS DESTROYED BECAUSE THE TOXIC CLOUD IS VERY TOXIC!!! DON'T DO SUCH RISKY EXPERIMENTS WITH SMALL SHIPS!!! TANK LIKE HELL!

Edited by: Qui Shon on 25/04/2009 22:40:29 Well, before the nano nerf....snif. I had a 9000m/s claw for 2/3 and a 5000m/s Navy Stabber for 3/3. Less then 30 seconds from exiting warp to entering warp in both missions. BUUUUUT, that's all gone now.

Yeah, so nowadays I use the fleet Stabber or Thorax, depending on character, both work fine. Think the Thorax is ~1300m/s and the Fstabber 2250m/s or so. Regular stabber is almost identical in time, though it didn't use to be. If you overload the first cycle you'll reach nearly un-overloaded top speed in first cycle, so the slow acceleration with oversize AB isn't a big deal. Rarely take any module damage either, from just one cycle.

Edited by: Empyre on 26/04/2009 18:50:28 I've gotten both a Raven and Golem to the gate and out of the cloud without taking damage from the final big wave of damage, using just a T2 AB. You just have to fly at a slight 'arc' so that you're more aligned by the time you get within 2400m of the gate to activate.

Basically recon 2/3 still works out as good isk/hour.
It just comes down to what your lp is worth. If your an experienced and get little from your lp then recon 2/3 could be not worth doing. If you get a good lp->isk conversion then its still well worth doing.
If one wants to agro 2/3 quicker for more bounties, just shoot the station and you get full pocket Agro and the bounties still not bad on the mercs. The loot off the station is generally 6-7 modules and even melting down is generally about a mil worth in the version I run. If just burning through the mission is like 1 min within the mission. So undock, warp, burn away, warp back, dock, hand in mission in like 3-4 minutes. My best time has been a few secs under 2 min to completion. I consider myself a noob and recon 2/3 works out at over 40 mil isk/hour. Add it up, reward/bonus, lp conversion for time spent.
Dracthera must consider such small mission returns too little to be bothered doing.
Yeah I've heard it all before about how one can't convert large amounts of lp at good rates. If a noob like me can covert over 2 mil lp at over 3500 isk each, its sure large enough turnover for me. If you dont believe such good returns are possible, don't worry. Its attitudes like that which are keeping my returns high.
