Now I did notice this in the patch notes from the lastest patch.
"Sentry guns no longer respond to being smartbombed, as smartbombs cannot be activated to hit them or the structures they protect. "
I guess this is CCP being as lazy as possible, in just making it not possible to smart bomb anything.
But what is even better is the implications this now has in PVP combat, and another one of those GREAT!!!! moves by CCP.

SO you no longer have an uber missile defense within 5k of a station/jumpgate. So what? If they shoot you that close to a gate/station the sentry guns will open up on them anyway.

Well, maybe I didnt add that this was in 0.0 space where there are no sentry guns.

uber missile defense? want to hear this one.
Well, maybe I didnt add that this was in 0.0 space where there are no sentry guns.

Ah, well then I agree it shouldn't affect 0.0 space at all... or at the least it should be a toggle option.
As for the missile defense, you can take out most missiles with 1-2 well-timed smartbomb blasts.

If I remember right, you can't anchor a deployable within a certain distance of a jumpgate or station.

There has to be balance. People who are in fast ships who wish only to explore or move though an area now are able. If you are superior in numbers and tactics and equipment you still can completely dominate a solar system, but you cant make it so no one under any circumstances can travel through it. Fair enough. Smart bombs on insta jumpers was never that effective anyways.
Quit whining about CCP. Think of a jump gate as a blackhole. It screws up your smart bombs. Thats all.

Sure, if smartbombs actually activated with any kind of consistancy, but when the delay between hitting the button and actual activation can be anywhere between 1/2 to 5+ seconds timing them well becomes a bit of a problem.
Not to mention the enormous fitting and capacitor requirements of large smartbombs (you can forget about mediums, with the activation lag the 3k range is very hard to control). Sure they're a good defense against missiles, but it comes at a cost. Meanwhile the Raven you're up against is lobbing torpedos like nobody's business.

Well, if people would set up more moblie warp dealies and know how and where to set them up, then you can still sit a smart bomb equipped ship sitting at the place where ships are pulled from warp and blast them to atoms.
It just adds two more steps.
1 find system you want to do this in 2 set up the moble warp thingies 3 get some ships to warp towards the moble things and just stop where it stops you and get ready to blast with smart bombs. 4 activate the bombs when you see a hostile enter local 5 wait for the boom --------------------------------------------------
