One way to improve the situation you are describing without changing the current wardec system as such would be to limit the tech 2 advantage. Form example, if you engage in 1.0 you have none of the advantage of tech 2 items over their tech 1 counterparts - the same would apply to the defender. So flying a tech 2 ship with tech 2 fitting would give you only what you would get in the tech 1 hull type with whatever attributes the tech 1 fitting has. As you move further into lower sec the advantage increases until in low sec the full advantage is back. This would allow low sec wars to continue in high sec, high sec mercs to still make money as they still have the advantage in SP and experience, but would allow new players a better chance of defending. Given that chance they would be more likely to engage and use the experience to learn PvP. It would also allow newer players to be in a position to provide high sec security for larger and older low sec corps. I am a total noob, and although I agree that this game is PvP and indeed that is why I am playing, for example, at the moment we are on our 3rd dec in 3 weeks, all griefers no call for ransom. At some point in the day enough of us will be available to fleet up and do something about it, the rest of the day we are just cannon fodder for the dec's in their tech 2 ships. So either stay in station, feed the griefers, leave corp or stop playing. Very little pvp experience gained. Before these started we were doing frig blobs in lowsec to learn pvp - cant do that now. So my feelings as a noob are simple, the system allows high SP players to dec low sp noob corps doesnt make any difference if they are just griefing or merc trying to earn a living (and calling that anything but grieifing is naive ), the current options are - 1. leave corp - yep that is gonna help, you are in a player corp to learn what this game is about, you are not gonna do that in npc corp. So get stuck in NPC corp is going to simply end up in people stopping playing the game. This happens you have less new user base, the game does not grow, CCP make less money and you have less people to fight. 2. Quit playing - see second half of answer above, but is this what anybody wants? Is the purpose of this game to be driven from playing it, not because of the mechanics but the mentality of people using the game mechanics to ensure they are the only ones enjoying it? 3. Pay a ransom - which leads to more wardecs and more ransoms. The trouble with merc corps dec'ing and camping noob corps for ransom is they kinda miss the piont. Most noob corps will be mining or missioning to make isk. If they are camped in constant warde's as we are, they cant mine or run mission - which means they cant make isk, which means they cant pay ransoms... Unless they buy a plex for real life cash and sell it for isk on market - but wouldnt that be extortion in RL? yes they could play the markets to make isk - and some people love to do this, it definitely isnt why I play. 4. Get loads of your alts to make random 1 man corps and wardec your mains corp and get the CEO to make it mutual - thereby bumping up the cost of wardec'ing your corp making you a less attractive target - this would be seen as an exploit but only Merc corps and griefers would care - still it is easily done and must be to some extent.
I personally have cancelled my subscription just waiting for it to run out and logging on in the hope that I will be able to actually do something that day other than being ganked by gangs of tech 2 ships, may be fun for them, doesnt teach me anything other than what a waste of money the subscription is at the moment.
