Edited by: Colonel Cornbread on 03/05/2009 21:13:08 So... I was a guest on an operation over in Providence. I was tagging along with Garmon / Genos Occidere, to test our their corporation (and to see if I could keep up with them despite my deafness / hearing impairment). Died once, came back in a new Rifter, blah blah blah... to get to the point...
I'm not sure what was said over vent but our fleet were going somewhere. We were previously camping a gate and as I warped out (one of the last) I noticed a large 15-25 man fleet coming through the gate and I was typing 'GTFO HUGE ENEMY FLEET HEADING TO US' and once we warped to the other gate - they were heading to the gate (so either they were already on the way to the gate or I just saved their ships)... for some reason, I landed in a warp disruption field 72 km away from the gate. Funny, I warped to the gate at 0. Anyways, burning it and trying to get to the gate before they could arrive.... hah, I knew I was a dead man and was going to be podded for the second time today. An Onyx and Manticore caught up with me and promptly had me webbed and scrammed. I was about to give up until I realized that they were both in my optimal range... I was laughing like a madman (thank god my roommate wasn't in the room).
I let loose my high rack, web, scram, armor rep and turned off AB to save cap in order to use it on the armor rep. By the time I popped the Manticore, I was at 50% armor with the entire fleet next to me (but 6 people were on the lossmail)... If the others didn't come, there is a slight chance I could've gotten the Onyx since he was using heavy missiles.
It was probably the closest I've gotten to having an adrenaline rush due to EVE. It was so fun and exciting to take down a 46 mil ship compared to them taking down a 1 mil ship.
EDIT: Post your stories!

fyi bubbles will drag you out of warp when set up on the opposite side of the gate directionally to the celestial object from where you want to catch people, they are called drag bubbles.

And it was from C&P as well! I usually just learn new swear words from here, yours seems much more useful!

Not in a Rifter.
There's a couple of other things to learn from your post, but you'll get there in time. Good start. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

you couldn't kill an afk onyx in a rifter
nothing personal, i'm about one skill tick away from having all related skills maxxed and i couldn't do it either

Anything's possible in EVE, however.

hurf blurf **** talking blah blah blah
you won't do enough damage in a rifter, not even with 3x 200 autos and 3x gyros shooting true sansha ammo overheated, to break the passive recharge on an onyx

Seriously? It's only a T2 cruiser though... unless I've underestimated it greatly.

This is providence we are talking about. Killing an onyx in a rifter wouldnt shock me.

well, providence aside...
it's a t2 cruiser with a bonus to shield resistances (and sporting the already powerful caldari t2 resistances) that is almost exclusively passive tanked by people who know what the **** they are doing
even active tanked onyxes would be able to passive tank a rifter pretty easily

i know i've been there, i was on their kos list in early 08 and got hotdropped by them multiple times in empire
they're not the sharpest tools in the shed but i can't think of any reason ever anyone would ever be alone in an onyx, except for the obvious "i was moving it, and i saw one hostile alone and i thought i could take him and then like 50 guys came out of nowhere"
oh right, that

"I was with a gang but I had to go bio and the gang jumped out and didn't notice I wasn't there, so I went solo trying to catch up with them." I can think of a few more reasons too.. Inappropriate content in signature, please change. -Weatherman |

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 04/05/2009 07:46:55 We kill solo Hictors on gates with what seems like fair frequency. If they aren't already pointed in the general direction of a celestial object they may not be able to align fast enough to escape being locked by a gang coming through a gate who already had the Hictor scouted.
But they tank long enough to escape through the gate sometimes too. They're definitely pretty tough. Not sure what the hostility towards solo Hictors is, except in the sense that camping anything with anything solo in low sec is a bad idea in principle.

I think one of the funniest fights I've ever had was when I was solo-camping a pipe during a contract (in a somewhat ganked out broadsword), and a hostile phobos jumps through. So, we start going at it. and at it. and at it. I call for people, who are about 25 jumps away. They're like: "we'll never make it in time." "Yes you will" *wait 20 minutes* "Told you so." *Pop goes the phobos*
Morale of the story. Don't bother shooting hictors in other hictors, it'll probably cost you more in ammo then it's worth.

I think I found why you can't do it Not saying it can be done, but you may want to use the correct ammo for them autocannons.

you are ******ed if you think that any frig AF or otherwise could kill an onyx. i am not sure if you could do it if the pilot barely had the skills to fly it and had all t1 gear on it as well TBH the things will tank out a battleship any day. they have the second best sub-capitol tank in the game next to the vulture, you cannot beat it sorry Roll The Dice... |

I think you over estimate them tbh, A neut or two will ruin a HICs day and the majority of HICs in lowsec are already tanking sentries, it only takes an extra 100 odd DPS to put it over the top. No ship is invincible and there are a lot of idiots out there flying ships they have no business even owning.

With sentrys on your side then you can probably break an Onyx, although it will take awhile, unless he's in a Shield Power relay fit (Which will cap out pretty quickly while he is running the point)

ok you sir are wrong first off look at an onyx base resists 1 and 2 look at the passive recharge rate (not cap dependent) unless you are talking about the one invul that most fit then yes a neut ship will turn it off but no it wont have the dps in low sec with gate guns (collected 300 dps) and if you actually would read this topic the engagement took place in nullsec meaning no gate guns SO you are again wrong Roll The Dice... |
