I know this thread is a little necro, but thought I'd give my recent observations.
I mainly do hi sec combat and radar, and low sec radar/mag. The hi sec actually pay pretty well. I've gotten tons of LG Slave implants, a faction tower bpc I sold for 240MM from a .8 system, succubus bpc, multiple faction pos battery bpcs, centii A-type adaptive nano's worth 100MM, etc. It can definitely be hit or miss, with long strings of time in between good spawns, but its good money.
Null sec wise, our CEO recently wanted us to do a deep 0.0 asset denial exercise so he closed his eyes and stabbed the map and Paragon Soul it was. Let me tell you about this place.
1) Unbelievable amounts of combat/radar/mag sites. I'd find 20-35 cosmic anomalies, 2-3 radar, couple of mag and at least 3 combat sites in almost every system. This is not exaggerating.
2) I think due to the war in delve, etc, there were hardly any real people here. We'd find the odd 2-3 people in an out post system, but that was about it.
3) A TON of macro ratters and miners. One system with an ice belt had 40 mackinaws in it that would all logoffski with in 5 seconds of any of us entering system. There were about 15 systems that had macro ratters in them. We had one guy who spent hours getting the timing down on exactly how long their respawn from cloak would be. We killed a decent amount of them from a combination of his data and throwing some bubbles in the belts they were last seen in.
4) Several of us that were approaching the maximum corp allowed sec status of -2 spent some time ratting for sec. I alone had 5 TS spawns in the limited amount of time I spent that week playing. Best drop was a HG Slave Epsilon, but most of the rest was just TS PDS, hardeners, etc, so not that valuable. Most of the other guys ended up with at least 3 faction spawn. Will say that a lot of these systems had pretty good true sec for ratting.
I mention the Paragon Soul experience to show how I'd rather do hi/low sec exploration any day than rat in null sec. The amazing amount of exploration sites there is another story.
One good tactic I picked up in all this is to run a cov ops deep into 0.0 past all the bubble camps and find a nice dead constellation. Probe out a WH that leads back to hi sec and go pick up a cloaky transport and a combat ship. Come back through and explore/rat all you want. Just probe out a new WH when ever you want to leave. Use the transport with a cloak/probe launcher/grav rigs and fill it with ammo/drones and replace with loot. Profit.
