Hello!
Finally, after a long training, it's come the time for me to try and hunt some targets like i couldnt do before.
I did some pvp, mostly 1v1 and pirating, in the old times, with frigates and cruiser.
Now, at 8mil SP, i've bought and fitted a Taranis in the hope of finding more suitable targets for me (can't really do much in a rifter).
Now the problem is... i cant find ANYONE.
I've read a lot of topics, tried the system that i've been told (Amamake, OMS, Tama), but still, everyone is either ganged up, in ships i cannot take (HACS), or parked at station/gates.
What i'd like is a fight, dont care if i win or lose, as long as i learn something (can't learn much trying to engage a 4man gang...).
I really dont know what to do...
I enter a system where there are 3-5 locals, sometimes more. I start scanning away, and everyone is at gates or stations. No one at planet or belt.
Sometimes i found a lone BC and i hope i can engage him, only to perform another scan and find a control tower near him. Yep, no target. Only clutter in my scanner showing up hundreds of POSes.
I've been thinking of using my alt account to park a drake in a belt and wait; once someone engages him, i'd warp in for the kill. But i imagine a lot of gangs are going to warp in, not much lone pilots.
And then i see those pvp videos, people doing 1v1 in rifter and BC's, or 1vmany in a BS, and i can't for my life understand HOW they find their targets.
Any tips you can give me?

1) Honestly you really can do a ton in a Rifter. 2) There's a LOT to learn from taking on 4v1 or a HAC, etc. You just have to be prepared to lose that ship too (sounds like you may be). 3) Ask in local. I've seen a lot of people do it, but of course it's a risk. You're banking that whoever accepts the 1v1 is going to keep it at 1v1.

Thanks for the reply, however i think i forgot to say that i really like to roam alone :(
I prefer one 1v1 fight in a day, than a thousand of kills camping a gate or playing in a big fleet :\

You could join faction war. You would immediately have access to several targets and you are under no obligation to join in any fleet engagements. ---------- This post brought to you by the worst PVP'er in Eve |

I know what you mean, but Eve is not a solo game when it comes to pvp, try to wardec an industrial corp and solo their mining barges in highsec if you really insist on fighting solo.

Edited by: Madeiner on 07/05/2009 17:14:46 I thought of joining faction wars, but i dont really understand it fully.
What does it enable me to do that i can't while not joined? Attacking people in highsec? (isn't there faction police preventing me from even entering enemy high-sec?)
I read a post about entering plexes and waiting for someone to attack me, i tried to and it worked a few times, however i CANNOT for my life understand how to reliably find those complexes. Maybe if i am in a militia, there is a map to find them?
Edit: This it the topic i read:
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=904963
however i cannot understand how to find the information about system which are contested but not occupied, etc.

The best way to find contested systems is DOTLAN maps, like this one
FW is probably your best option, especially the Caldari v Gallente war.

Edited by: Rajere on 07/05/2009 18:25:26 Go to NPC 0.0 like Syndicate or Curse. an Interceptor can easily get through the initial entry point gate camps, and from there you can roam around looking for targets. In 0.0 you have the option of engaging people on gates, stations, etc without worrying about sentry fire. Sure most targets on gates will probably have a gang on the otherside, but that doesn't really matter to an inty, just stay out of web range and you can always gtfo if he has friends. You'll also find more solo pvpers roaming around in 0.0, and they're almost always in interceptors themselves.

Hey, i'm in your same situation. Got some ships geared up and ready to fight but again, can't find a damned soul. I have been looking high and low, lowsec and nullsec, and even some highsecwars. But in the end, it all comes down to either fighting totaly outnumbered or outgunned, finding targets that i can't solo and events of the like. Very rarely i manage to see a ship, catch it and fight a good 1 vs 1 all the way. I'm talking evrey possibile option, even neutral targets in lowsec.. but no go. Sometimes i have had some success in WH space but considering that even WH space got populated with POSes and alliances nowadays makes it a moot point.
As you, i havent gone into FW more or less because i don't know if/how/where/huh to start and mroe or less evreything i hear of are fleet battles.

Use your map to find decently populated lows sec systems.

They really should make a few 0.0 systems where you cannot gang warp to members, no guns at stations/stargates, and everyone can "broadcast" his location on the scanner, and the beacon would disappear after the first ships who uses it!

Roam around the pipelines between the main FW regions.
The Tama -> OMS hub, for example, I've had good luck with.

I tried to.
But what exactly do you do?
I usually jump in, fly to a safespot, then i start scanning for signals. If i have one, i will narrow to 30 degrees and check all the belts. No one. I do the same a few more times at different spots if the system is big enough.
Ok so they might not be at a belt, so i try to scan in every direction until i pinpoint them... and there you go, control tower :|
I also tried to check "number of pilots docked and active" against number of people in local, it should result in the number of pilots in space, but i think it's not refreshing that data in real time.

Other people are doing the same thing you're doing. They're looking to gank ratters.
Why not set yourself up a few km away from the warpin point to a belt when the d-scanner tells you of potential enemies in the area?

Yea hunting is the hardest part in Low Sec PvP. I love to roam and i dislike gatecamping... even if we do kill lots and make our Killboard scores look cool :P
2 good things i have learnt about solo (and small gang) roaming is to find the pirate hubs and learn to hunt straglers and to evade their blobs (and damn HAC's!!). Make sure you have a print out of the region so u can navagete your way around the small pockets of low sec looking for ratters. Also have a home base set up one jump in from high sec and learn who are the locals.
Also feel free to come say high to my rifter around Ami anytime :)

I thought Faction Warfare was 'Low-sec With Blobs'. Getting in a Pilgrim myself soon and got great Caldari standing so that wouldn't be a problem.
One question: Gallente/Minnie FW in high-sec, any dangers I should know about? (I've heard the NPC FW High-sec Navy is a joke when it comes to pew-pewing them) ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

If you are going to try to be a hunter, you will get very few fights.
You need to switch to become the hunted. Seducing people to fight rather than forcing them works much, much better.
Just imagine you have 10 hunters in a system, each doing exactly as you do? The result: nobody can find each other and you will get 0 fights. ____

Learn to turn that 4v1 to your advantage. Bait & separate them then pick your target & watch the tears roll...or gf's spammed depending on ur opponents.
Trying to turn the tables on ur pursuers is alot more satisfying than ganking the unprepared, when it works at least .
Restricting urself purely to 1on1s severely restricts ur chances of getting alot of fights. Unless u wanna sit outside a tradehub station with a jetcan all day.

make a ion setup that is cap stable with mwd disruptor and guns runing and goto 0.0 and hunt ratting ravens or whatevers there miners/npcers, ud be supprised what dammage a inty can do and if ur lucky u get the killmail. ravens cant do anything to a inty if ur orbiting at 500m with mwd runing and most dont bother with drones i poped a rating raven in my claw last week in the drone regions. u gota be real fast on the scanner tho coz there slipery little buggers those raters, u just have to get lucky and catch one of guard

I dont know, my Ranis can hit about 250dps max overloadead for no more than a minute, or 200 stable dps... dont think i can break the tank of a ratting raven!
