Edited by: Astria Tiphareth on 13/05/2009 12:44:18 Excellent to hear that inconsistencies will be put to rest. Nothing quite like a backstory that makes no sense to put people off discovering more about it.
Be gentle on the old histories - try and find common ground where you can - and indeed if old historical documents (I can't say that now without laughing at GalaxyQuest) are now out of date, but can be construed to be accurate for the time, just mark them with a date and write a new one to cover updated information.
I'd prefer to see a consistent timeline than have information changed simply to fit later canon changes in terms of introduced technology etc.

BoB disbanding? The Enheduanni was behind it. Lag causing you trouble? The Enheduanni was behind it Feeling sleepy? The Enheduanni was behind it.
Jowen Datloran whining again about the Enheduanni? The Enheduanni were behind it.
Please give it a rest. A writer introduces one semi-omnipotent (I'm sure there's a latin word for that somewhere) entity in one story and this apparently makes the rest of his (in my opinion excellent) work invalid?
Besides, the Broker was explained in the novel, and suitably dealt with too. That just leaves the mysterious Enheduanni whom we can safely assume are being negated at all turns by the Jovians.
Edit: Besides, the vast majority of EVE's canon won't be impacted by the presence or lack of the Enheduanni at all.... or will it? ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Environmental Effects

Originally by: Deviana Sevidon That is not correct. It was never said that Enheduanni are behind all happenings in the universe. That thing was blown a bit out proportion by player assumptions. Also at the end of Empyrean Age, the Broker is nearly dead as well, with all of his Clones detoriating extremely fast.
The Broker is also no Invention of TonyG but is part of the Backstory ever since the Chronicle "Myth of a Salesman".
The problem is that the existence of all-powerful secret conspiracies is generally a fundamentally uninteresting story concept, because it diminishes the player's sense of agency; this goes for the Enheduanni as well as the Broker. In his first appearance, where he was simply a extremely good manipulator and canny businessman, there was little to pick apart about him. The book's elevation of the Broker to a nigh-unstoppable demigod with the resources of entire nations is the problem. It essentially makes the actions of players and the other NPCs generally irrelevant, which is not a good thing for a metaplot.
Regardless, this sort of thing is not what this is supposed to be about; the events of the novel are the events of the novel, and they have "already happened," so arguing whether they were good or not is essentially mental ************. This current initiative, to codify and establish the Eve canon, is a move in the right direction. How things are changed, and what is changed, are the things that need to be discussed; I for one hope the storyline team keeps any modifications to the absolutely minimum necessary to maintain the consistency of the storyline. -- CAPT Svetlana Scarlet CAIN Chief of Diplomatic Staff

Question on CORP:
Are you basing these reports on Server-Logs, or on Player generated content similar to ISD? ________

Yep that the Enheduanni is the reason for my annoyance is no secret at all. Though, actually I was trying to answer Deviana Sevidon now she so kindly asked why people could have anything against Tony and his story writing.
I enjoyed reading the EA novel and other parts of Tony's work, but the day I accidental read Theodicy it felt like a smack with a shovel to the face, and I lost all interest I had in ever participating in the RP scene of EVE again as it simply felt pointless.
I have come to accept, that we are no longer are participating in a story (though that is normally the key concept of a RPG) but instead is being told a story (like a fairytale of some kind). And if CCP is fine with it, I am fine with it. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

A couple of things on this topic (I know, I'm coming in late - I've been away):
- Well done to CCP for taking this on - resolving some of the problems with the back story is laudable, and over due
- About resolution: Not all problems need to be resolved. Look at RL history itself, there is a certain amount of historical baggage that accompanies the historical record. If the inconsistencies in the back story can be portrayed (altered) such that they are part of EVE's historical record, there can be some room for so-called contradictory facts. A Caldari recorded 'fact' will differ from a Gallente 'fact'.
- The fact that CCP is documentating what is changing and why, means that TonyG (who, it should be pointed out, has faithfully concerned himself with EVE lore with enthusiasm - agree with his perspective or not) will not soley control the process. It is reasonable that CCP recognizes the need for player input to make this process comprehensive.

May we call the writers of errant history Heretics and instead of eliminating it, set it aside as apocrypha?

I am new to the EVE universe, but wanted to send a shout out to CCP T0nyG regarding some of his writing. Just finished reading "Ruthless" and I am really impressed with his style and quality of writing. Looking forward to reading his other novella (believe it is titled Threnity) and, of course, Empyrean Age. Outstanding work and a great read. Look forward to more. Also, are there any plans of combining the chronicles into a paperbound anthology or novel?

UPDATE: The first CORPS report has gone live. After some internal deliberation, we decided that Intergalactic Summit was the best place to post them, as they are presented entirely in-context and thus have more of a rolepayer's ambience than something which belongs in EVE Fiction. Again, we maintain that these are intended to be completely non-biased, with reports covering what CONCORD *thinks* is happening out there. The intended audience is anyone who wants a high-level summary-or approximation-of nullsec player activity. We'll be delivering these every two weeks...enjoy!
