Judging from how TonyG has treated the fluff from the scientific articles, I have a feeling we will see them in a big book-pyre. -----

Quote: Beginning on Monday, May 11th, we're going to be implementing a series of changes to the published canon that will, in its first iteration, eliminate or reconcile a huge portion of the more blatant inconsistencies we're aware of. This will be an ongoing effort, as there will no doubt be future errors given the expanding scope of storytelling avenues that we serve. This first "big purge" will mostly consist of direct changes to published chronicles and its mirror on EVElopedia. But fear not: these dreaded "retcons" will be accompanied with a detailed changelist on the EVE Fiction channel of the forums, just like a game patch, which outlines what we're changing, where we're changing it, and why.

Same here. Tony is the one responsible for most of the inconsistencies in the background, so I'd prefer it if his short stories and his book were the first to go on the editing table. -----

Won't matter how much chronicle/short story/other oog material retconning is done if in game descriptions are opposed to it (take a look at NPC CEOs in game) or if the retcon is not the generally accepted state of affairs in game.
As an example, even if the Scorpion is 'retconed' as being older than the Raven (see Ruthless), but the description in game isn't changed and the community that cares about it continues to recognize the in-game description then the retcon fails.
In other words - TonyG correct the stuff you wrote that departed from the background established when you wrote it; do not change the background that existed before you started writing to fit what you wrote.

If it was necessary, we would update the description in-game. The same applies for replacing CEOs and other in-game representations of storyline content.

Sounds good! I am looking forward to more influence on the story line on gameplay. It will give people more reason to become more immersed in the game, and boost role playing.

I came fairly late to EVE - after all the AURORA and MERCURY events were done - so I cannot comment on the older stuff, except to say I'd still love AURORA to come back, but realise why that is unlikely.
On the newer stuff, however... *sigh*
I honestly wasn't expecting much when I got the Empyrean Age novel. What surprised me, however, was how generally good ideas, some of which were already in EVE lore (such as the recovered Terran tech) was taken and twisted very poorly to fit into the plot, then smashed in with some plain-out horrors to finish the story.
Suffice to say, when someone directed me to 'Theodicy,' I wasn't expecting much.
What I found, however, was a writer operating with apparently no or very little oversight, still pushing his own storyline with little respect for everything written previously.
I'm sorry, TonyG, but between Theodicy and the EA novel, I completely lost trust in you.
I'm also a great believer in second chances, however, and as has been said, Retcons can be one of those 'great-or-terrible' things.
Do this, right, and gain back my and (I think it's safe to say) a significant portion of the RPer population's trust. Do it wrong...
PS: I am VERY happy that the edits will be listed. Transperency is a good thing. ----------------------------------------------

Intresting to see some of hate towards Tony, personally I like his work. Maybe because I started playing 2006, and therefore biased? Probably but either way there are other inconsistancies such as EVE its self.
Is it just a wormhole that closed or is it a supersized stargate built to keep the connection between EVE and the milky way but went mental after a few decades of use? I like to think the latter but the site always states the wormhole closing not the gate.

Originally by: Arkady Sadik As a suggestion, I think it would be a good idea to have a regular (monthly? quarterly?) "question session" where some backstory guy answers a number of questions about "common sense" things - like, "how long does it take to visit a planet if you are on a station", "how much crew do I have on my ship at least to make it useful", and such. Everyday knowledge that just isn't detailed anywhere.
I completely agree with this. There is too much that would be common knowledge in the Eve universe that is unknown to its players.

It's a super sized star gate built around a wormhole, it's the largest known human building and took 100's of years to build. Humans new the wormhole would close but it closed early. CCP in there wise wisdom decided to remove just about all reference to the Gate in the new introduction. I believe most new players don't even know there is a gate or wormhole. That is CCP problem they talk about all this great stuff in blogs but when it comes to the game they are taken steps back.

Well a few Articles are in desperate need of being retconned, even the old stuff. EVE-Stargates Article, I am looking at you.
Other then that I am quite positive about the changes and to have the Backstory Info from the Book and the Chronicles is better connected to the happenings ingame.

As someone who has criticized the inconsistencies in the Eve canon previously, I'm very glad to see that an effort is being taken to correct those problems and make the Eve canon internally consistent. However, in order to maintain that consistency going forward, it is important that there be some sort of continuity and content editing in place going forward, otherwise the same problems are likely to crop up again. Is CCP planning to put a higher priority on such a task than has been there previously? At the storyline board talk at FanFest last year, one of the things that was stressed is that all the storyline board members had some other job in the company, and this was sort of a sideline -- are there plans for that to change? -- CAPT Svetlana Scarlet CAIN Chief of Diplomatic Staff

Maybe because he made it possible to explain any and all happenings and events in EVE with reference to the Enheduanni or The Broker.

That is not correct. It was never said that Enheduanni are behind all happenings in the universe. That thing was blown a bit out proportion by player assumptions. Also at the end of Empyrean Age, the Broker is nearly dead as well, with all of his Clones detoriating extremely fast.
The Broker is also no Invention of TonyG but is part of the Backstory ever since the Chronicle "Myth of a Salesman".
