I agree it IS a little rediculous to warp an entire corp halfway to nowhere with NO explanation, but im not going to lie, it benefits me.
I think saying that its OUR universe and we should be left alone to play in it implies a little too much about the game ballancing. Assuming its perfect, that is to say, its not too easy for some, or too hard for others, it has the perfect ballance and gives everyone a chance, then i agree interfering would server no uselfull purpose. But, the only way to find that tricky equilibrium is to actually wait for the players to fill the universe and see how it plays out. Not in a beta, when real people have invested real time and money in it. Now, the problem is this ballance has NOT yet been achieved.
Consider the situation. Whithin months of the game going live, we have a large and powerfull corporation tolling a major jumpgate in the heart of the eve universe.
The problems with this are as follows.
Naturally new players are going to get bored sitting in 1.0 sec systems mining pyro, or omber in 0.8 sec systems after about a week. Theyr going to want to explore. This is fair enough, its only natural to want to have a look around. Many are unfamiliar with the dangers as they pass thru most gates with ease, even low sec ones. They havent had a huge amount of combat experience and theyr flying a frigate with basic market loadout. Then they run into mOo, maybe theyr afk and get blown up and/or podded, maybe they get stung for a big cash pay out. Either way they are now acutely aware of the dangers and now dont feel safe going to other systems because they dont know when theyr going to get pirated next. Some might say, as newbies they shouldnt be leaving those high sec systems. I say, who are you to dictate to others what is and what is not a reasonable expectation of how they should be able to pay the game they just bought. This whole thing is a question of opinion. Personally i take this perpsective. Pirating is illegal (in game) therefore if the GM's want to create a realistic and viable simulation, they need to punish pirates and make it VERY hard for them. If you go down the street to get some groceries and someone stops you halfway and says 'pay me to go past our ill knife u' he'd get his ass swat teamed in less than 5 minutes. Thats how the authorities in game should deal with mOo. i'd prefer roleplaying myself, i.e. something wjich can be explained in game, like the battleships could.
Also i think the mOo situation is partly an exploit, i find it a little unreasonable that such an important gate has no security surrounding it. Its important to the caldari navy to protect its trade lanes, and with mOo blocking passari-mara no trade can pass from lonetrek to the forge without opaying a toll. That just makes absolutely no sense.
Bassically the mOo situation is unreasonable. Its not their fault, theyr just playing the game. But they shouldnt find it so easy to play it like this.
Only 2day i met a guy from a very small corp, they still had frigates and were mining and dropping for their indy. They lost all their frigates to mOo and are now back to using start ships. That situation is one that SHOULDNT be alowed to occur, its not mOo's fault, but it just shouldnt be happening.
If we dont find some way of making this game newbie friendly people wont buy it. And the people hthat have bought it will take it back. And i dont know about u , but i dont want just 6000 players for the rest of eve's life time.
