Speaking in game world / back story terms: You mean, the Caldari State would just sit back and let a null sec alliance invade and have its way? With the galaxy's biggest trade hub, in Caldari sovereign space? At some point, wouldn't the Caldari Navy have started podding gankers to put a stop to it? Or just shoot any Goon ship on sight, without waiting for it to aggress someone? Same for CONCORD.
Not bitter about Burn Jita, I wasn't there and it looked fun. But it just seems entirely unrealistic in game world / back story terms.

Jita isn't the "capital" of the Caldari state. It is a system like any other, where capsuleers happen to conduct a lot of business according to the universal rules set out by the Caldari for capsuleers.
Those rules do not change when lots of capsuleers congregate in one system, nor do they change when other capsuleers shoot at said congregation.
Jita is play-built, so it can be similarly player-destroyed
To put it in simple terms: Jita is not Stormwin/Oggrimar. |

There's no collateral damage from capsuleer wars, so I doubt the Caldari State cares that much about it. Plus, they're making a fortune off the transaction taxes in the 4-4 station. |

Does it matter if Jita is the Caldari capital or not? Just saying, any self-respecting nation-state wouldn't let some private alliance have its way within their borders.

Also the Burn Jita was equivalent to sitting outside SW/Org and killing anyone loitering outside, not invading the city itself. In WoW, you can actually go in and (temporarily) kill the auctioneers. And the questgivers/mission agents. And the LP store vendor. Imagine how much grief THAT would cause. |

They don't. Concord blows them up when they break the rules set out for capsuleers.

And yet Jita still exists. Eggers go about their daily business in Jita today as if nothing happened in weeks past. Kind of like Stormwind or Ogrimmar. Yeah, because the core issue here was how Jita and Stormwind are different and yet not. Besides the "capital" reference, which really is irrelevent at its core, Jita and its WoW counterparts are pretty much exactly the same. You say Jita is player built, yet really all that says is that lots of players come to Jita to do trading, market and contracts, very similar to your examples in WoW. It's not nulsec, after all. Jita is no more player built than SW or Ogrimmar. If you can't handle someone pointing out the relative fallacies of your post, you shouldn't be here.
I get lots of people calling me stupid, mostly because they can't think past the moment they are living in. You'll have to be more specific. Jita was literally just another system until the players decided to make it a trade hub by everyone trading in it. |

Say, you were watching a movie, and there's a scene where hundreds of ships come in from the wilderness area of space. They surround the big mega-market of the story world and start shooting everything that moves. There are cops ships there blowing them up. But they wait until the wilderness guys kill a ship, then they blow them up. And they let the pods escape. Maybe to get another ship and repeat. So the giant gang from the badlands just keep doing it. Meanwhile the kingdom or whatever where this mega-trade center is just does nothing at all.
You might think, "That was a pretty cool action scene, but it made no sense. If the cops didn't like it, wouldn't they have started shooting first. Or killing those pods running away? The writers should have come up with something a little more believable." That's all I'm saying-- just kind of an implausible scenario. |

You're having this conceptual problem because you're placing an unjustified importance on both the location and the crime. Jita is a big deal TO CAPSULEERS. Burn Jita is accordingly a big deal TO CAPSULEERS. To CONCORD and the Caladari State it's just business as usual.

Rules of engagement are weird. Think of UN peacekeepers and their "don't open fire unless you're fired upon" thing(unless that's just from the movies too). Or well, think of cops. They can't shoot everyone carrying a gun in an area where its legal to carry guns. |
