Edited by: Jasper Dark on 15/05/2009 10:09:10 Is it faster to earn isk by just to doing lvl4's without jumping into another ship to salvage and just keep getting bounties and mission rewards.
Or.
Get a mission, kill in a Raven jump into a Osprey Salvage and loot.
Its basically a time factor of isk/hour what is faster.
I plan on getting a golem to do it all in one ship, but in the mean time what is best?

I had the same question about 2 weeks ago. On my last dozen or so missions, I've done the mission in a Raven and then jumped into my Hurricane to loot and salvage. I've tracked my time to do both and the rewards, bounties, LP's, and sales for loot and salvage.
I've found that my isk/hour goes up slightly by doing the salvage/loot thing. And I've only been doing "instant sales" out of my mission station, I'm sure my income would go up a bit by setting up sell orders, going to market hubs, and all that.
So my results are that salvage and looting is worth it. But you should probably track your own results for a couple of weeks because if you can do the missions faster than I can then it might not be worth salvaging for you.

Do it all in your Raven. Put a Salvager and Tractor in your spare hi slots, that way you can loot and salvage whilst you are still fighting the NPCs.
Saves having to go back in a different ship.

The only problem with that is range of the tractor and aslow moving ship. Using a cruiser with AB is much faster to get to the wrecks. Currently I dont salvage as I am unsure if it is worth it. But I need to make more isk faster. A golem is the ideal ship, larger cargo space, longer tractor range.
To the first reply, I think your right I need to run the time myself.

I assume by 'faster' you actually mean 'better from isk/h perspective'. If you do then in my opinion best scenario is to use your combat ship for shooting (if you are slow killer you might want to have a tractor with you to grab bigger ship loot that drops in range in some missions) and use selective looting in dedicated ship afterwards.
Selective looting in this case means grabbing only those missions where it is 'worth it' from isk/h perspective. If you are very fast killer then those missions most likely are damsel, zor, attack of drones, gone berzek and worlds collide - the slower you are at the killing the more missions will be 'worth it' for you.

Yeah its a slow method, but if you're doing it whilst still fighting the NPCs then it doesnt really matter. Most mission loot is sh*t anyway so I used to just pick out the best loot (as you cant carry it all anyway).

In the case of selective looting/salvaging, the rats that are worth looting/salvaging will be inside your 20 km tractor range, so you won't have to move much if at all. Primarily I'm talking about Angel/Merc/Blood Raider/Sansha BSs that like to orbit at close range. Sometimes I don't feel like firing up my second account, so that's what I do.
Sure you'll miss some of the farther ones in your non-Golem, but looting/salvaging with your combat ship (even if it's selective and short-range) gives you a tremendous return in terms of ISK/hour. It's also good training for when you do get into a Golem so you can figure out how best to manage your rat kills for ideal harvesting (i.e. wait until they get inside your tractor range before you kill the ones you'll harvest; only loot certain items and not everything, etc.).

Edited by: Gavin DeVries on 15/05/2009 15:21:08 I think it really depends on what you're fighting and how good your setup and skills are. If you can complete the mission in 10-15 minutes and have well trained XXX Connections skill for maximum LP, it may well work out better to just move on to the next mission. This is especially true if you're facing Gurista or Serpentis foes in the mission who usually don't have good loot and salvage.
I'm usually fighting Sansha and Blood Raiders, and those I definitely find it worth looting and salvaging after the mission. I do it in a Hurricane because I can do that faster than slow-boating around in a CNR. I've also got level 4 skills and mostly T2 items, so I don't quite finish them as quickly as someone in a pimped out Nightmare would. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

I agree with Mawusi. I loot as I fight, which keeps me always mobile, and have salvager tractor combo fitted to all my main ships. The other benefit that I personally have, as I am sure many of you do, is a second account. Loot while fighting, drop a can when cargo is full, and pick up on 2nd accnt Hauler. This method will not work, however, on gates that require a key to move deeper into the mission.
Loot & Salvage is well worth it for isk/hr, not only for resale but for the components some of which go for a hefty price. I recall a simple level 3 mission that netted me over 17 million all due to 1 missile launcher worth 16 mil dropping. So, fly safe, and loot & salvage yourself silly.

After having done like 18-20 missions I had loot worth like 40mill and salvage worth 80mill.
Ok, I did the salvage and looting in an alt. But assuming you just get bounties and mission reward/LP, how many extra missions will it take to earn 120mill? Now compare that vs salvage/looting battleships only(might add in cruisers)
Also, I guess it depends what agent your working for and your social skills. I worked for the CNR agent in Tintoh, which aint exactly top notch and I dont have top social skills either.
And salvaging is kinda chill and its alot more fun to gain like 2-300mill of isk in on batch, instead of slowly getting more and more. It also adds a little variation.
Throw tractor beams on the Raven and gather all the wrecks to save even more time

Wow that's crappy loot and salvage. This from L4's? You should be seeing on the order of 15-20 mil of loot/salvage from each of the missions that are worth running...

When you say "worth running", do you actually decline missions or just don't bother salvaging the bad ones?

I myself actually only salvage few missions. AE, EA5 and the big sansha missions. The rest i only loot, since their salvage isnt worth spending time on. Continuing another mission would give more isk/hour.

You would be much better off fitting a drone link augmentor and a tractor in the high slots and having a dedicated salvage/loot ship.
Loot what you can with the raven while you miss, but then come back later with a salvage ship (hurricane ftw) and sweep the mission clean.

Frankly, both. I only run the missions worth running (so I decline a fair amount of them and flip between several agents), and I only salvage/loot the missions worth salvaging/looting from those. Luckily most of the missions worth running are also worth salvaging/looting, but some are only worth running (like Guristas missions for example).
If you want to maximize your income, you should be selectively choosing missions unless you play a LOT, in which case you kinda have to run everything.

With some luck on missions, i can make easely on a evening (around 4 hours play) 200/300mil isk by salvaging and looting..
Granted i use 2 accounts, while my main is clearing a pocket my 2e account i use too clear the previous pocket in a fast destroyer (commorant)..
It doest matter for me that it contains a small hold, often when i shot all rats, i still busy salvaging the last pocket, and can grab quickly with my main char a hauler too retrieve the cans with loot..
Some missions hold even some nice 100k roids, wich i sometimes mine with a Hulk/Orca combo, selling a load of trit each month together with reprocced loot, what again gives roughly a 1bil a month.. I use this method too fund my PvP habits wich are at moments quite costly at times

I'd say loot and salvage drone and merc missions. For other missions, salv and loot only cruiser or bigger. This should save you some time. Or you can run a maruder with salv and tractors.
In terms of isk per hr, you get more money speed running missions if you factor in the LP rewards. This assumes you have max or near max skills and are familar with all the speed run tricks. Click here for my High Security POS Service

Edited by: Veto Nalloc on 16/05/2009 10:29:26 Run the mission but dont loot and salvage in the raven, no space.... jump ship into a harby/caine/catalyst and get back out there looting and salvaging, split ur gear down, refine the stuff and save the mins keep the salvage and start letting it gather.
once u got enough lp buy a ship bpc and build it (only if u have decent production skills) and get yourself some rig BPCs and build them too sell the whole item as a bundle on contracts and keep doing that, i mean tbh, i used to run missions like an idiot over and over and over and found that my isk/hour was kinda low compared to what i make now, maybe 10mil per houroff missions then u get that nice big lump after about 6-7days worth of hard graft.
NPCing is NPCing at the end of the day, if u want to earn more isk per hour youre doing the wrong type of NPCing. I make in excess of 40mil per hour ratting out in 0.0 (in bounties only) and all i do is collect the bounties and take the faction/officer items, the rest i leave for a corp mate to collect and he keeps it.
in the short term i make more than him yes, but in the long term he is gonna make me look foolish for not looting and salvaging every wreck. but all it takes is just 1 shiney faction/officer spawn and i will make more than him.
My suggestion to you is this, if you want isk per hour join a 0.0 corp and go do some ratting just belt to belt consistently killing off everything. or join a 0.0 corp and become a salvage buddy and every 2 days refine your crap sell the goods. you should be making around 500mil every 2-3 days from that roughly every badger II trip (dependant on the efficiency of your ratting buddy) the only downside of 0.0 ratting or salvaging? gotta keep your eyes on local chat at all times, Neutral jumps in system, you warp out, dont wait for that last cycle on the wreck, it aint worth it.
If youre interesting in finding out more then convo me in game.

Honestly a method that I prefer is to have multiple level 4 agents within a ten jump radius or so. (Easy enough if you do COSMOS). Keep doing missions and looting until you get to a big mission with a lot of bounty. kill everything in each room, then salvage /loot it and then leave. DO NOT TURN IT IN. Let it go until after downtime the next day. All of the ships will have respawned and you can rat and loot again.
If you get this early in your EVE time session, move on to your next level four agent. You can milk 4,5, pr 6 good level 4 missions for loot and bounty until it is time for the emission to expire.
But what about my time bonus you might ask?? Screw it. It is worthless considering how much more you get in the long run.
Just be careful, you can lose standing if you miss the deadline. Agents are so particular these days.
Keep in mind that only certain missions are worth doing this in. Any good mission runner knows which I am referring to.

Wat??? Don't you lose a percentage of DPS regardless of number of missiles fired? As in, same in torp Golem, same in cruise CNR??????

That's only true for cruise Golems (yet another reason NOT to use one...). It takes 3 Defenders to take down a torp, so it's not an issue on the torp Golem.

defenders do work against torps but it takes more than one to destroy the torp btw, where as it only takes 1 defender to destroy a cruise missile, so ive heard anyway. tho like i said already isk grinding isnt in lvl 4s its in 0.0 ratting. u could also try to run lvl 5s if ur feeling perky about running low sec missions, send in a NH/damnation as tank a raven for added dps (fit 2 shield transfers/large remote armor reps) and some sort of logistics aswell for the stupidly difficult missions keep a check on the rat agro and u can potentially earn around 80k LP thats a faction bs a day if youre good at it.
