Edited by: Gerod Theron on 18/05/2009 17:54:21 Gentlemen I have been playing eve off and on since open beta, and because of the open nature of the game I have never gotten to far. I have never had a clear goal. Right now I have 14 million sp, and am flying a Drake doing lvl 3 missions. I currently meet the recommended certificate requirements to fly a Rokh and or Raven. So I need a goal. I want to move forward in the game and have some fun in 0.0. But industry also seems interesting to me. i am done with general missions but exploration also interest me, mainly worm holes, but I do not know much about scanning. So help me set a goal. what are your suggestions?

Edited by: Amber Coldheart on 18/05/2009 18:10:11 So your perceived interests are 0.0, industry, and exploration ?
Industry can be done solo, but with all the industrialists already clogging the trade hubs, i doubt that would be very viable (or fun). Never been to 0.0 myself, you should check out corps recruiting if you plan to go there (recruiting forum here on this board), its not really a place to solo. Oh, and check up on corps / alliances before joining them, as i understand it a lot of them will be waiting for you with guns primed and blow you out of the sky just for the fun of it.
Exploration is doable solo i guess, but again i'd try to find like minded individuals, a lot of wormholes have roving gangs that kill anything they see. Definately safer in a group :)
If you have no preference on what you'd want to do, i'd see who would take me in, and take it from there :)

It sounds like you've set your own goal - find a corp living in a wormhole. That involves 0.0, exploration, and industry all rolled together. ----------------

you can easily have fun doing solo industry, and maybe even a little profit. it's a lot easier with 2 accounts though. here's a basic strategy for T2 manufacturing:
1. save up at least 500M isk while running missions to raise faction standings to at least 5.0 (a passive tanked drake can easily solo most level 4 missions) 2. create a 1 man corp and run a few more missions so the standing will take effect 3. anchor a small tower with some mobile labs in hisec -or- just join a corp that already has a hisec research POS you can use 4. buy some T1 module BPO's and start making copies 5. buy datacores, interfaces, etc for invention 6. start doing invention to get some T2 BPC's 7. buy the materials to manufacture those T2 modules 8. sell them or use them yourself 9. profit
if you find this daunting, well good.. that means you have a nice goal that you wont reach in the near future. and in the meantime, if you find grinding missions a dull way to make ISK, you can start with T1 production and work your way up...
a few other tips: 1. get R&D agents to make your datacores for cheaper invention or just to sell for more ISK 2. find regions with higher prices than Jita when selling. it may take longer but you will make a lot more ISK in the end 3. there are many useful guides on this stuff posted in the science forum
and finally, if you have never setup a POS before, that in itself is a great goal to start with.
~~~~~ Remember, EVE is a sandbox and other MMOs are rock gardens. Pretty rocks can be collected, but collecting sand is pointless. Instead build a sandcastle and keep it from being knocked down. |
If you want to get into Industry, start off with the Caldari Bantam, the best mining frigate. Move on to the Caldari mining cruiser (whatsitsname, can't remember it now, it looks like a handheld vacuum cleaner), and from there to the mining barge called the Retriever (the Procurer is really not worth your money). From that point on your aim should be at the Hulk, which will probably take you two months after the Retriever (once again the Covetor is not worth your money, cause the Hulk will only need one or two days of additional training).
It's the same path I'm traveling right now. I currently have the Retriever, am training for a Hulk. -----
The highest goal of any pod pilot, of course, is to obtain the Veldnaught; for then you will be Chribba! You can reign supreme over all high sec veldspar FOREVER!
Imagine yourself roaring through the asteroid field, railguns thundering at the tattered husk of the fallen Giant, its mining lasers flaring pathetically and randomly due to the guidance circuits being corrupted by the massive structural damage.
Your voice bellows: "It is over, Chribba! The days of brutal mining-related tyranny are past. Your life is forfeit, but the Veldnaught I will spare if you eject now."
Chribba, his spirit broken much like the behemoth in which it resided until this day, complies. Huddled and weeping out of grief and pain as his pod is cast out into chill darkness of space, put to shame by the much deeper cold inside the pod; inside the shattered soul of a great pilot, warrior and miner.
Your eyes follow its progress hungrily.
Others will later swear that there was the tiniest whisper in local, audible only because the stars themselves realize the gravity of these events, they dim and quieten in respect. "...veld... spar..." A barrage of fire mercilessly obliterates the tiny capsule, and the whisper, if it was ever more than a ghost effect of hyper-attuned senses, is cut off. Your attention, however, is elsewhere. Not one thought do you spare for the mangled and frozen corpse aimlessly drifting by. Never again a thought for the greatest man to ever brave the Deep Black Void. Only one thing exists in New Eden. One Ship. The Veldnaught.
Will you approach your crowning achievement sedately in your pod, meditating on the path that brought you to this point, the sacrifices you had to make? Isk, ships, lives. Will this be a moment of peace, an inner peace that can only come when a long and difficult road is finally and forever behind you? Or will you barrel to your prize in the fastest interceptor to be found and tear open the blackened docking bay with your guns in order that you are left unfulfilled not a moment longer than you must? The answer lies buried inside you already, but likely you will not know how you will act until that day has come.
At last you are wearing the Emperor's robes, comforted by his rod and his staff. Your rod, your staff: the ultimate symbol of power and wealth. Your fleetmates, in venerating silence, provide Solace - restoring the glorious throne that you now inhabit to its former beauty and splendour. Reinvigorated, you cast your eyes across the endless fields of 'roids. Rightfully yours; now and forever, Lord Chribba Theron.
Will this be your ambition? Know that many have sought the Veldspar Crown, but Chribba remains: less a man and more an institution, a beacon of righteousness, justice, power and mining lasers. Those that would have stripped these from him lie in his wake, crushed by the sheer force of his presence and turned aside by the dazzling glow of his charisma.
I shall not pretend that it is a small ambition that you would be taking upon yourself, but while the risks are vast like the depths of space, the rewards are vaster still.
Fisrt you need alot of cash to play this game. I suggest mining for cash and ninja mining for thrills and cash. Ninja mining will give you experience in lower sectors.
Edited by: Shou Nishino on 19/05/2009 12:07:53 If ya plan on going the route of a builder/researcher you may wanna ask yourself one or two questions. High sec research POS or Low sec POS? Both can be fun. Second, after the first question is answered is were? If the answer to question one is high sec (empire) then you will need to see what your racial standing is. For example you have a standing of 4.4 with caldari i would then run missions for Lai Dai or Kaalkiotta (sp). These two corps are research agent corps which will give you the option of research agents later down the road (suggested).Once your standings have gotten to 5.0+ with caldari then it is possible for you to put up a high sec POS in caldari space. If the answer to question one is Low sec then you must decide were. Low sec has its issues once your pos is up and running it becomes a target for the locals. meaning more cost in replacement and so forth risk vs reward thing. High sec = research and invention Low sec = moon mining, reactions, research, invention and alot of other thing but is also dangerous and expensive. once these two questions are answered then you can set your next goal if ya have any other questions feel free to contact me in game.
but op, looks like you want to find a good wormhole corp. There are plenty of who operate solely inside the wormholes, doing industry and plexes.
If you behave I might do one on your GTC addiction one day.
@OP:
If you are serious about becoming an industrialist you should have a look at the Market Discussion forum. Apart from learning a few things from the example of the people there it would also help you at some point in the future when you ned investors if you are a recognized member of that community already.
This would also help you with another potential goal you could have in EVE: become a good scammer. Not the contract spam scammers that you see in trade hubs, but an honest to god scammer like this one who displays at least some skill and subtlety. (If you do go down this road, send me an EVE-mail asking me to edit away this part of the post as otherwise they might spot this while looking through your post history and suspect your game...)
Well, while you are trying to come up with some long term goals, try running every cosmos mission for all factions.
That'll keep you busy for a while, put some iskies in your wallet, build good standings for the future and fill your hold with exotic BPs.
For more of a challenge try them without using one of the many guides. They can be fun and entertaining little puzzles to while away the hours.
