Just wondering how Megathron pilots feel about their ship at the moment. Not seen much on the forum about them. With torps being strong enough to survive med smartnombs and with the new Gankageddon setup (meaning it may not be the greatest damage dealing ship anymore) do you still feel the Megathron is worth the effort?

I still think that the Megathron is great. It has enough powergrid to fit almost anything you want without enhancers (within reason obviously), has good bonuses, a nice drone bay, and STILL does a LOT of damage. I would like to see the following though, just for my own piece of mind.
A comparison between: 1 Siege Arbalest & 1 Modal Electron 1 Siege Arbalest & 1 Modal Neutron
AND
1 Gankageddon and one Gankamega
Only in terms of damage assuming antimatter ammo for the hybrids and multi-frequency crystals for the geddon.

The Gankathron will probably die to a Gankageddon cause of the following reason:
Mega needs a MWD to get close -> 25% less shield and by the time the Mega is close enough to fire it has probably already lost it's shield.

Dumped it for an apoc.
can never hit with 425s, no where near enough cap, and has a severe lack of PG.
To get an armor tank and fit 6x425mms and 2x siege launchers i needed 3x RCUs, meaning no hardners for me, also ruining the armor tank. and the cap cant hold up with 2x large armor reps going + the hybrids.
I find the apoc better in every way

In the process of dumping it for Amarr for obvious reasons. Ill keep it around because the nerf bat is cyclical but ATM I like Amarr better for both PVP and PVE.

Edited by: Thanit on 07/09/2004 22:16:18 Yes, now that amarr ships and lasers were boosted the mega is just an apoc with less cap and less versatility.
edit: just a quick cap use comparison:
an apoc fitted with all cap rechargers and cap relays can keep running 6-7 med shield transfers indefinately. the mega setup same can do 3-4.
Just a quick weapon comparison: neutron blaster max range: 15-20km mega pulse max range: 30-50km Neutron blaster damage on mega v mega pulse damage on apoc = about a tie, with the apoc running a 23/7 tank and the mega out of cap in two minutes.

Just recently sold mine. It still has alot of potential as a long range ship but with the mwd nerfing and the overpowered megapulse lasers in abundant use, blasterthrons are not worth the risk. It can still be pulled off but its not what it once was. ----------------------------------------------

Who cares for the shield ? The Megathron is armour tanked. And if the Mega is close enough to the Gankageddon the Gankageddon is history in a very short time because of its poor defense.
The Mega is still an excellent allrounder. If you¦re doing ONLY PVP maybe a Gankageddon or a Raven might be a better alternative today, but if you¦re doing also other things like NPC hunting, mining, missions the Mega is the best. And I¦m almost very sure that the Mega Pulse will be nerfed in the next time so the Gankageddon will return back to average whereas the Mega will still stand where it is today - at the top of the BS¦s.
And if you¦re comparing the Apoc with the Mega please consifer that the Mega has 1000m3 more drone space and heavy drones are very powerful today (until the nerf) and costs a lot less than an Apoc.
Yes, I do love my Mega . |

I love my Megathron as well, but in pvp i fly more scorps and Raven (cant fly amarr) now thats its become second rate for it again. Only thing I use it for now is NPCing, mining and taking over stations.
It's painfull to see how a megathron is forced to warp out after 2-3 minutes against a apoc. Or how a blasterthron gets whacked around by a gangkageddon on his approach.
Fact is, the only ships that have a chance of winning against Amarr ones (using all-round setups not designed for fighting amarr), is the Raven and the Scorpion.

I love the megathron too. Since the cap relay nerf and the massacre on guns i have tried everything under the sun in terms of loadout's and investing millions of skillpoints.
In PVP i have to run everytime a raven or an amarr battle ship turns up on the battlefield. In NPC (vs arch angels) im in constant mortal danger unless i use long range setup's... and even then if a battleship spawn appears close while i pick up loot i can easily die (happend more than once ).
My conclusion is that im gonna train for amarr battleships, the megathron is outperformed by raven, apoc and geddon in PVP and NPC.
It p.... me off since i have specialized in gallente battleships and now i have to start over

The ship in question was not a tanked Mega but a Gankathron (max damage config).

Yea.. the damage increase on pulse beam was.. soo not needed. It'd be the equallent of giving 350mm the same d-mod as 425? wth? Neither the upped hp on torps. Gal and Min are just so gimped atm.. . How come it seems like Amarr and Caldari is on the top all the time?
Mess with the best, die like the rest Real men structure tank |

Megapulse are more like long range lower damage neutron blasters than like 350 rails. Their base tracking speed is .027 i think which is somewhat comprable to a neutron blaster. |

I think that the arma is probably superior for ganking due to the range of megapulses but if you want a balanced close range setup that does alot of damage AND has staying power the megathron is imo far superior.
