<3 CCP Guard!! Thanks, this is definitely something we need. Aligning to bookmarks was a great start - but they really do belong as an overview setting as well.
Looking forward to it... |

It was pleasant thank you.
We are going to finish this feature and put it on TQ, the only question right now is "when".
I spoke to Team BFF who own this feature and as I suspected, an ETA is hard to get right now for the exact same reason that ETAs on other feature have been hard to come by in the last couple of weeks. You see....we're planning. BIG time! And we basically can't wait to tell you more about all that. But right now it's hard to give substantial information about specific features so I'm just gonna bite my tongue and keep you all in suspense for just a LITTLE while longer. Sorry about that :P

You guys say this ALL the time. It has yet to live up to the hype.
EDIT: 50% of the BIG things get pulled prior to patch. 30% make it ti Sisi, but not TQ. 15% make it to patch notes, but then get pushed off for unforeseen problems (eg this thread) never to be seen again. 5% make it to TQ bugged. Leaving us with maybe 10% of the original plan making it into the game. Not to mention the things that break as a result of that implementation.
Stop talking, start doing. |

This. Well said. The list of 'promised vs. delivered features' is really, at this point, appalling. CCP could make entire expansions of the 'left on the drawing board features' that never made it in. Stuff that the playerbase was really, REALLY eager for (and some not so much, but still).
Also I'd like to re-iterate my position now, which I might just make into a sig, that the proposed null-sec revamp is fine, dandy, great, whatever. But within that re-vamp, low-sec should be included and have distinct characteristics/activities assigned as well. Otherwise it will be left as it currently is - a broken area of the game with the worst attributes of null-sec and high-sec combined. |

Yes...the truth hurts when you say it out loud. You'd rather they continue to blow smoke up your ass?
I like the game. I don't like devs over-hyping upcoming updates. That's what creates the cynicism.

I'm not sure why people don't see this being an issue nerfing the usability of the proposed feature. In all honesty, I'll probably leave it turned off if it's a simple overview thing, except for the rare instances I have more than 2 or 3 bookmarks on grid. P&P will still be the easiest way to use bookmarks, especially with an overview full of moving ships. P&P also has the benefit of sorting by folders (btw CCP, I still think it was a jackass move to take away our other folders and replace them with *labels*... I ignore the feature in gmail and it's just as crappy in EVE.) Not saying the bookmarks on overview will be bad... just saying I don't think it's going to be as useful as people seem to think it's going to be, unless the bookmark overhaul is even bigger than previously discussed. |

While I am in COMPLETE agreement with the last paragraph of your post, I must point out that just because something in mentioned to be on the drawing board, or something they are considering, or "it would be nice if we could" does NOT make it a promise.
This board has a very nasty habit of taking an offhand comment and turning it into a promise CCP hand chiseled into stone tablets.
This point is more directed at KaarBaak than it is at you, as he appears to not only be a master of making a promise out of a casual mention... but also of the deadly art of pulling creatively made up "internet statistics" out of his ass.

If you check back on various Dev Blogs and Posts you'll find several devs stating less than impressed comments on the current BM system.
However they have also admitted that revamping the BM system wouldn't be that much of a revamp, it would be take down and rewrite.
So it's all about allocating dev resources to redo something that doesn't (initially) adds that much new, just cleans up "less than impressive design decitions" from the past.
We know that as Carbon(tm) and we also know a bit of the funky side effects (ie wierd bugs) that such rewrite normally gives us ;)

The BMs in overview feature was not an "offhand comment". It was a promise made by CCP Soundwave back in the spring of this year. This was touted as an important item of one of the team BFF signature patches, somewhat delayed due to 'stuff' at the time. |
