Edited by: Mutnin on 06/06/2009 20:15:21 I know I can't be the only one whom thinks this way.. I realize for many running missions and mining might be fun and happy times. However for me, I just want to get my PVP on and it seems like everything I've done to to make ISK is more like a second job than a fun game.
I've tried many different things to make ISK and they all bore the hell out of me. I tired missions and salvaging at the start and grinded my way up to like 50 mil on my trial account before I couldn't take it any more.
I played with the market a bit and got bored very fast. Tried it again a few weeks ago using 3 noob alts giving them all 10 mil to start with. I made about 50 mil each in a week or two but it was tedious at best and really not enjoyable. Just with in a week I was dreading logging into their alts to update market orders.
In the mean time I figured I'd try my luck at mining, so I trained up two alts, one for an Orca/Hulk and the other for a Hulk. Running the Orca and the Hulk I can clear a belt of veld in about 30 to 45 mins , and make about 10 mil. (yes I know 2 hulks would be better but I can't stand running back to the station every 3 mins)
My worst night in PVP to date, I lost 2 Arbitrators (20 mil each fitted) 1 Coercer which was about 8 mil fitted, along with my pod with a full set of +3's. That was another 30 mil or so in implants, making my worst day in losses close to 80 mil. Which is nothing to many..
That means running two accounts mining, I'd have to mine roughly 6 hours or so to pay for my losses of that one bad night of PVP and hell I'm just flying T1 cruisers for the most part.
Thuss so, my miners will likely be going up for sale lol... Now don't get me wrong I really don't die a lot, but it doesn't take many deaths to add up quick. At this point in my young EVE career, supporting my PVP is more like a second job than a game and Im' flying crap ships..
No you can't have my stuff.. but I know I can't be alone in this.. I realize there might be better ways to make ISK fast, but I can think of very few that don't end up being more of a "grind" than fun. At least for people whom just like PVP.
I just don't get how some can't lose BS after BS or T2 ship after T2 ship and keep coming back every night in new ships.. |

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but get a job (or a better playing job) and pay for it with real money.
What you're doing is killing the game for you, and if you can't afford 50 cents a day (or whatever it is in your local currency) for x amount of hours of fun a day, you need to reevaluate your earnings potential or what you spend your free money on.

$14.99 for a plex and it's only worth something like 320 mil sold out right or about 350 on the market. That might keep me in Cruisers for maybe a month, but anything else well...
I really don't want to stay in T1 cruisers the rest of my Eve life so 1 plex could easily end up being 1 BS. Which I'm not going to pay $14.99 for every BS I lose.
It's nothing to do with real life money, I'm just not going to pay for it that way.. with so little gain in Isk for the real money. |

Edited by: Shogun Archer on 06/06/2009 20:20:19 Buy 4 of them then... That will give you over a billion isk and keep you pvping for quite a long time. Then just sell the loot from your victims ships.
Just seems the best option for you really. Especially since your already paying what, and extra 15-30 dollars a month for mining alts? |

Right now trading and exploring are a pretty good dynamic duo if you want some variety in your isk making activities. Get some basic remote trade skills to manage your buy and sell orders as you exlplore. Then sell off all the deadspace mods to fund even bigger buy sell orders. After a while gaze in awe at your bulging wallet that can take repeated hits from 'bad days' of pvping. Also the upside to exploring is that you can use your second account as the damage dealer and the first account cov ops explorer as a handy warp in to an opportunistic gank. |

Yes, this was maybe going to be my last ditch effort at multi alts. Both my miners have decent tanking & drone skills. I was going to train them both up for the (I hate to say it) Drakes, then go stick them in a Wormhole with a small Pos or something, to see if it would make enough to keep me happy.
The only thing that makes the mining bearable, is I stick a PVP alt in system and I jet can mine into a can that the PVP alt popped. This lets me bait noob can flippers, but even that is a little boring.. lol
I do have another idea I'm working on that involves PVP and making ISK, but I can't really say what it is as it would blow it. The problem is it's high risk and the alt used will likely have a limited shelf life, but should be good for some LuLz.. |

I am sure, if you'd take up a second job for the time you spend grinding ISK, you could support your PvP habit with GTC sales and then some. -------- Ideas for: Mining

I belive this statement not because of his bulging wallet but simply because the supply of dumb marks in eve is infinite.

Na, man I work from home and run my own biz, I honestly don't need a second job. My RL biz doesn't require that I do much.. I check some websites and my stats then can go play EVE all day if I want.
It's not so much the time spent, it's the getting rid of the "grind" aspects that are killing it for me.

Really, the best way to overcome mining lonelyness is by... Not doing it alone. Join your corporation in mining ops. Believe me, mining is less than half as boring if you're in a group with other people. You can just chat away with them.
You can also do something whilst mining, like watching TV, reading a book, or whatever. -----

Yea TBH, I think about the only thing I haven't tried is theft and scams.. My problem with that is I'm a fairly honest person and would probably feel bad ripping some one off in the game.
I know EVE seems to be a giant magnet for greifers, but I'm just not into that kinda stuff. Specially when I know how hard it can be to earn the ISK the hard way.
Now on the flip side if I do it toward a war target then maybe I can justify it..

Then don't do it. Only do scams if you can live with it. As soon as you pull off a single scam, you're doomed forever. You'll belong to 'the dark side'.
That being said, I understand scamming is a profession like any other. But I've had my share of scams, and I am wise enough not to be fooled. -----

If losses hurt so much, then don't play the game.
If you want to play the market, make a large investment in the markt. 10/50/100 mil isn't going to return enough to fund your pvp habit.

In that case his ISk is technically not infinite but unbounded.

No offense, but that is pretty dumb thing to say if you have ever done much PVP. It doesn't matter how much tank you have, anything will die in a fleet battle when it's primared by enough DPS.
If you check my kill logs on Battle Clinic or the FW KB's you will see I have a 5 to 1 kill ratio and 99% pilot efficiency retaining to ISK damage vs Isk lost. Granted that's done mostly from flying in FW gangs and not solo, but for a 3 month old alt it's not bad.
I can afford my ship losses at this time, that's not what this topic was about. I'm just trying to do away with the ISK "grind" and make it a little more fun vs boredom that it currently is for me.

Edited by: Kahega Amielden on 06/06/2009 22:09:04 Firstly, I'd like to point out that the minimum cost for PVP is virtually nothing. You don't need to spend 20 million on an arbitrator fitting.
That said...mining, missions, and trading? Have you tried exploration? Ninjasalvaging? Manufacturing? Actual piracy (targeting valuable enemies, ransoming when appropriate) rather than just pewpew blowing everything up?
Have you tried anything in lowsec? Stuff in lowsec is automatically less tedious since you need to be alert.
Your haven't exactly exhausted your options.

An exciting thing about pvp is that there is isk on the line. Otherwise everyone would just fly with the best equipment in-game.
Also as people have pointed out t1 costs pretty much nothing. |

Yea, I did try Manufacturing, but that ended at the point I realized there were not ME research or copy spots open anywhere in Empire space. So I headed out to Proviblob land to use one of their open slots and got killed in a warp bubble with my BPO's.
I decided it was kind of pointless unless you had your own POS's which requires more "grind". As for low sec I live there so yes.. I've just never been a fan of PVE type stuff, I always play games for the PVP.

Honestly my Arbi's tend to be T1 fits in the highs, being I run the Neut/Nos set up. However T2 tank is a must as well as T2 points. The problem is T2 drones are a must and they end up around 8 mil or so per ship on a Arbi with 10 warrior II's and 10 Hammerhead II's.
I tend to carry full loads because you often have to leave them behind in a fight and without a back up set of drones you are defenseless.

Did you try any of the other stuff I listed?
Regardless...
Read. You can buy already-researched BPOs and BPCs. Or, better yet, make a research alt. In the same thread I linked there are a number of "Research alliances" or corps. Basically, you create an alt on the same account, spend about a day or two training him, and then create an alt corp and join the alliance, using their Empire research POS. A bit more work than just buying researched BPOs, but much cheaper and more flexible.

Via a few plex', get a spot of capital. Buy a bunch of popular stuff in Jita, haul to some of the minor hubs. List for 3 months for some profit. Majority of it eventually sells.
Install any number of tracking programs from Market Discussion forums to keep track on your daily profit from sales. Whatever it seems to average out to, just make sure you're only using at most that much isk per day in PvP.

Yes, as I mentioned above in some of the other posts, I just don't get into doing missions.. I do however have a dual stabbed/nannoed punisher set up with 4 salvagers. I use it when there is nothing going on in FW.
TBH, I might need to train up my salvaging skills because I really haven't made a lot by doing that. I can't salvage T2 wrecks, so maybe those would produce better salvage, if I could.
As for the Piracy, yes that's sometime in the works, but I can't really say much about that. I can't have what I have planed linked back to this account.. lol I think I'd be under a permanent WD if it's linked back, with the targets I have planned.
