large jump gate with x10-x20 the jump distance.
same rules as current gates with regard to ships that can use them.
the purpose is to make those less used areas of eve more accesable by being made closer to each other by a super gate. i would say about 10/15 of these gate would be more than enougth. these should be strategicly placed around eve by ccp based on area usage. people dont like to fly 20/30 jumps which is why they hang around trade hubs.
the way i see it working is currently eve has trade hubs with something like 7/8 gates connected. each system is over populated . now if you put a super gate in a system 5 jumps away for instance from each hub and then have a super gate in a system say 20 jumps away with 6 gates in it this effectivly adds extra systems connected by short distance to these hubs meaning less distance to travel therfore less need to be next to the hub. people will then have access to these new systems spreading the population out thurther as these systems provide fresh new proving grounds.
also if it would be possible to do i think it would be great that when you go to a super gate you can then choose which gate you want to go to. i.e right click and you get a drop down of locations of super gates. you chose and you jump. this would open the whole of eve up for travel.
having a limited ammount of these super gates will make sure current jump gates dont go obsolite. this will provide many more opertunitys to explore eve.

And in recent news today the freighting and courier industr crumbles after New Eden launches it's latest super gate technology connecting all major trade hubs. The system is fine the way it is, just live with the fact that doing such a thing would be ineffective and a waste of resources to the empires which build them or the technology is not effective enough to do it.

The haters really hate this idea... as they believe it to bring economic collapse to EVE. I say the benefits out way the alleged downfall. I believe these people to be the same ones that thought the training que would also ruin the game. But that's just me. Now having said this some 1337 dude will probably insult me for lack of intellect. In which they will misspell things in their post due to so much nerd rage or having a different opinion than them. _________________________ EVE has the biggest haters out of any MMO...

that was just an example. its not about bringing hubs closer together its about spreading the population out. these gate would be strategicly placed around eve to bring other out lining systems closer.
example
i want to fly to australia from scotland.its like getting a small plane from scotland to amsterdam to the next and the neaxt for 30/40 trips. doable but going to take forever. so what do you do. you take that small plane to an international airport and board a bigger plane which flys you to australia. once there i get a small plane to my destination.
it would work the same in eve.
example
i plot a path from rens to jita. i think its about 30 jumps. thats a reasonable distance. howether 10 jumps away is a super gate and 10 jumps from jita is a super gate. i re plot path and im now doing 20 jumps.
howether this is not were i see its main purpose. many systems are just too far away to travel. so what do you do you move closer to trade hub. its a fact. but now with super gates you can be 60 jumps from any trade hub but 5 jumps from ur isolated system is a super gate so you plot route. that distance is now 15 jumps

New jumps will not have people change they're current location even if they lead to space which has a very small population.
This is because of people moving to a location which is profitable and usefull to them. Basicly the development of systems is like this: - Someone finds good agents and good belts in a system - Someone calls friends (corp) over to tell them that it is such a good system - People start making lots of money and everybody wants in on it and start to base there - A small market is created attracting even more people - More people start profiting from this system - A large market is created serving to everybody's needs
Now that's how the development goes of systems, move the agents from the system and people will move to the next. |

This is a great and it is a absolute rationale idea. If you look at the eve-starmap, there are some gates connecting huge distances each other. Make the Super- Jump-Gates like sights. A huge universe like EVE needs more sights! |

This logic drives my movements throughout EVE: the missions offered by a specific corporation. I move all my alts so that they run specific divisions' missions for the same NPC corporation. The super gate would be a benefit only if a mission required it, or it were time to move my alts to another region.

the only aspect of this super gate idea i agree with is having a few low sec systems linked to the outer regions of null sec to allow smaller alliances try get a foothold in 0.0 space

You need a trade scam alt too then. |

I really like this idea. How about creating one core system in every region that allows you to perform a jump to every other region capital? well perhaps not in nullsec, where you would have to alter this technique since logistics need to stay complicated, but I think it would make empire a lot more comfortable.

Super gates with drop down location would be great and only make them one way jumps. This make it easy for races to deploy their navies from central locations, one way travels prevent players from using the gates as "Express Lanes".

I dont see the benefit of this system at all. There is a lot of cool things that could be added, but EVE has real problems, and needs real serious additions/solutions.
Building this hyperways would destroy the communities that flourish outside the hubs. It would marginalize all the smaller hubs and would probably pretty much kill the idea of trade.
IMO it's a cool idea but waste of resources, and will create more problems |

Such supergates would be camped.
The only reason why a small ally is not able to get a foodhold in 0.0 is because it's a small ally which lacks the manpower, ships, resources and strategy to master this challenge. To easy up the travel for them into deep 0.0 would change nothing, just more of these weak allies would get spanked in the attempt to go somewhere they are not ready for.
Long range travel can allready be done verry efficiently and fast without such supergates. The tools are in game:
Learn to use them and you dont need supergates. |

1 Supergate System... which links to all the others.
So you find your local Super gate which sends you to a set system. From this system you can find your other supergates to where you want to go.
It will be busy, very busy.
So I propose that it is 0.0 space to make the trip worth it and give those pirates something to fight for ______________________________________________ Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward.
Whoever cannot take care of imself without that law is both.

I think this idea has little bit a merit even though it would i think change a lot. Couldn't it be better as like a Catapult Jump Gate (Star Trek Voyager Idea) and jump you towards a system with a 3 tot 6 jump varience. This way it's has it's positive and its negative sides.
IMHO i think this would work a bit better and wouldn't really destroy transporting to much.
Thanks Flap

Eve used to have gates like these long long ago.
Region gate in Niyabainnen connected very close to Amarr iirc.
There were other gates too and flying between the hearts of the different empire was probably no more than 8 jumps.
This was when eve had a population of 15-20k online.
The problem was these systems and jump routes were so busy they were completelly lagging out the servers , thats why they got binned.

Server has been upgraded (so they claimed) and the transport greatly optimised. SO put them back in.

Thats the dev blog that confirmed highway destruction. Happened back in Feb 2005. There a link to a forum post long dead.
Servers have been upgraded , so have the number of players.
Imagine the route that these shortcuts would create , then imaging 200 players at each gate trying to jump through to the next. Then imagine at each gate being stuck there for 10 minutes. Then imagine everyone coming to the forums and bleeting on about lag.
^^ This was the highway system and trust me if you were there you wouldnt wanna go back to it either.
Having a highway would likelly kill of the regional hubs and lead to one big super hub like Yulai of 2004.
Where that superhub would be is anyones guess but it would be Jita lag x 10.
Highways are bad , even if you think they would be convinent they are not , because everyone uses them for convienience and then they just turn into lag fests. |
