So despite every expert telling them it's a bad idea, despite all the protests and petitions (the big one reached 130,000 signatures), despite it being completely ineffective... the German parliament passed the internet censorship bill today. Not 2 hours after the bill became law one spokesman for the CDU is already considering widening the blacklist to sites that promote "Killerspiele" like Counterstrike.
As a public service to my fellow Germans I present the "how to get around Zensursula's Wall" guide.
1) Go here and pick an open DNS server 2) Follow the steps here to change your DNS settings
And it's just that easy. Here's hoping the Federal Court will strike this stupid law down as being unconstitutional. Either way, guess who's not getting my vote in September?

This site seems fishy! Take one of the top-three IP addresses of DNS servers and enter it in google. You may be surprised to get any hits at all, but you will actually get a lot of them. Here is one:

Good call, what I did was I ran the IP's through IP-tracer and found one in a western European country like Austria or France. There's lots of other open DNS servers out there, even some official ones run by the OpenDNS project, so "shop around" |

This is just old idiots trying to hold on to whatever power they have left. A last bid to get control back over the people's opinions.
Question is in 15 years will there be an internet left? Or will it end up like radio and TV?

Originally by: Munchees Ok I think Germany should have its government redone because the way people are describing it who live there and in europe it sounds like it's the ****'s all over again except without the genocide and the name ****'s
I dunno it's not like that really. This is an election year and the ruling parties are just looking to win some votes (gaining control of an internet blacklist is just a bonus). Although everyone who knows anything about the internet knows this blacklist is a stupid and bad idea there's a LOT of people here who barely know how to turn on a computer. Basically the entire 50+ population. All they hear is "protecting the children by blocking child ****" and to them that's perfectly reasonable.
It's a problem all over the world really. The older generations don't understand the internet, and they're the ones in charge right now. All we can hope for is that the internet lives long enough to see some politicians who actually grew up with it come into power, cause it's pretty clear that at least here in Germany protesting, signing petitions and calling up your gov representative doesn't accomplish jack ****. |
