Allright, I've read several posts and I'm getting the feeling this is general practice on EVE. I'd like to know if this is termed harassment or just part of EVE.
Myself and a couple friends have earned enough money to create a corp. We wanted this so we could share assets and generally make it easier to work together.
A couple days after our corp is made, we've already gotten notice that another corp is declaring war on us. So now we soon won't be safe in concord space.
So... WTF?! We just want to do our thing and develop our characters / get better ships, rat hunt, etc. Why are we now going to be attacked by another corp's super characters and battleships in protected space? To us this is harassment, we don't do anything to other corps we just stick to ourselves.
So... is this normal in EVE, and approved by EVE staff? Do we need to dissolve our corp and go back to not having a shared hangar just because sone bloodthirsty corp is declaring war on starting corps for kicks? I don't pay money in this game to be attacked in protected space. When we're ready for wars we'll mess around with it. But right now we aren't interested. What can we do?

Wait and see. Most wars are dead wars. But you'll have to stay non-AFK for sure...

most war corps are alts just look at the size of the corp, less than 5 members usually means an alt corp. They wont give u much trouble just add them to your address book so u can see them in local easily and dont go afk unless docked.

More griefer tripe. In the context of the original poster, it is just a group of muppets trying to get a few easy kills in Empire.

Get a bunch of cheap frigates and show your aggressors what you're made of. Lot's of fun to be had in pvp, even if you lose a bunch of ships
Who knows, they may have underestimated you and they will soon crawl back to the hole they came from. Right then and there is the time to declare back on them

We plan to file a harassment petition if they actually attack us in an area protected by concord. We aren't paying real money to be prevented from enjoying this game by a wayward corporation that EVE allows to harass innocent starting corporations.

Devil Chaser, there is some good advice in this thread already: a) Look at the number of the players in the warring corp. If less than 5 you have little to worry about, or it may be alts just too lazy or afraid to find real opponents for PvP.
b) Arm some cheap frigs and go after them in civ space. Any PvP experience is good experience. Fighting in a ship that you've put aloot of effort into makes the game much more exciting. My pulse pounds within me when PvP is near or inevitable.
c) EVE is not all about PvP. Those opinions are for the short attention spanning geeks who switch back and forth between EVE and CoD/D00m3/etc. There are allot of other people in EVE, like me, who like to build, trade, explore, do missions, etc. But, believe me, youmust develope some good PvP skills and practice ganking, attacking, working as a group, etc. Practice it one night a week.

Devil Chaser, if its regarded harassment just to war declare on another corporation then EVE is dead. This is part of the game.
Adjust & adopt to it or stay docked.

Awww isn't that sad...
Why don't you try and see what happens before you start screaming******and murder?!
If you pick up your bags and move to some remote system that you will have all to yourself then you'll prolly never even see any of those guys that declared war on you!
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

Oh come on. This is pathetic. If people like you had your way there would be no wars in empire space.
Just stop whining. Fight these people, or move systems etc. You could even hire protection.
Eve is like life - there is ALWAYS someone bigger and nastier than you prepared to annoy people for the sake of it. It is up to your corp to adapt.

Warlike corps can fight all they want. Players who are not playing the game for corpwars do not need to be harassed by other corps in concord space. THe corp who declared war has 80 members. And their ships are battleship class, at least the ones we've seen.
We pay real $$$ to play this game. I know of no other MMORPG that allows PVP without mutual consent and within sa***uarded areas.

I think he's right, even thought PvP may be very interesting in this game, and be most of the content for higher levels, if you are low in level and completly dependent on the security of imperial space to not lose ships you can't replace all the time it's really anoying if there are cheap ways like that to take away that security.
It takes a few months in Eve to get to the point where you can compete in PvP and stand a fighting chance, I really think while you work yourself up to that point you shouldn't have to live in fear of vastly superior ships killing you just for cheap kicks.

Welcome to EVE. War is a very natural part of EVE, embrace it. Its not harassment to declare war on another corporation. Use your wits and get out of it unharmed.

Oh, so do everyone else. It might come as a surprise to you but the rest of us actually have adjusted and accepted that EVE is about interacting with other players. We've seen countless posts like yours over the last year and some have quit EVE due to the fact they don't want to fight others. Move your base of operations around the next couple of weeks and the corporation that have declared war on you will most certainly leave you alone.

Think of it: What does an 80-member corp in battleships has to gain by harassing new players who are just getting their cruisers? Answer- nothing. By killing new players, their cruisers won't drop a super-uber Covert Ops cloak.
Point is:
A war where the one who has declared the war has NOTHING to gain but the pleasure of slowing someone's progress and thus making them frustrated & upset- griefing/harassing.
A 0.0 war for controll of star systems and other similar types of wars- legit wars.

You can blame the "pirates" for the uber concord flag system. I remember a time when concord weren't so uber - infact it was quite possible to fight them or escape from them and there wasn't any timer at all. But as always some "pirates" abused the system and ganked 1-week old noobs in starter systems. Hence the beefed-up and totally unrelaistc uber concord we have today.
Don't blame the devs. Blame the early griefers for what we have today

Wouldn't it make much more sense to assume that this 80-member corp all in battleships doesn't exist? I've seen a lot in Eve, but I can't for the life of me imagine 80 griefers all in the same corp, especially as nobody here even seems to have a clue who they are.
If there really was an 80-member griefer corp declaring war on newbies out there, don't you think half the community would've known who they were by now?

Until we hear which giant uber pirate corp war dec his the entire discussion is worthless. I suspect either there is no war dec or another small corp war dec'd them because of mining or something equally boring but explainable.

Devil Chaser is currently in a 2 man corp, and there's no wardec to that corp on the corp war overview (if it's accurate, nfi).

This guy that is complaining is an ore thief?
Damn...the system actually works!!!
Tell us yor corp name so you can have a few more wars just for PvP practice :)
P.S. If you are an ore thief, you shouldn't make a corp....it could be hazardous
And if you are not, you already have received plenty of good advice. Don't be lame and petition.

Edited by: Harry Voyager on 19/09/2004 22:53:10 Good advice does not a PvPer make.
Neither an alt's word does truth espouse.
Frankly this is likely a war started by PvP vets that felt the need to munch on some newbies, because they are to scared to take on someone near their level. If that is the case, you are dead. Flitting around in frigates will merely prolong it, not diverting it. They may even find it "fun" fighting an enemy that has some clue what it is doing. Your only weapon against them is to deprive them of their "fun".
Harry Voyager
F'Nog, the war posting are notoriously buggy. My corp still has a war posted against it by a corporation that doesn't even exist anymore.
This is Eve; you can't expect the databases to actually work.

I think that corp withdrew on the war thing, so DC corp is ok now. But, good point, some jackass looking to relieve some angst because he's a fat kid and got mugged for milk money at school shouldn't translate into "attack the new guys since that's all I can do" corp war...
Also, I fly around with DC and company all the time, we hunt rats and run trade routes to sell the items. WHoever said he's an ore thief is a flippin liar, I don't think he could/would in a punisher. Probably some idiot that saw us attack rats and loot the cargo cans they drop in the asteroid field they were in and wanted something to cry about?
I'm pretty sure it doesn't help EVE to make money, if you're new and in .5+ space and get attacked by random butt monkeys who just want to fight with new players so they can win at something for once in their life. There's a PVP space (and lots of it) for a reason.

Actually. If you stop whining about this and sit back and think about it there's lots that you can do without ever firing a shot. Ok. Here's a hint, work the rest out for yourselves.
You are a small, flexable Corp. Your opponants are a large Corperation, with lots invested in it and probably not to flexable. Corperations can only declare upto 3 wars. A war against a dead Corp ( a Corp with no members or perhaps an Alt just sitting in as CEO) ties up a war slot. Seeing as both CEO's have to be in station together to end a war you have a nice market for selling back that war slot to them.
I'm not saying it's a nice way to conduct a war, and I'm sure that there are many people sat there thinking "WTF" and typing back lots of things with lots of expletives in.
But a basic tenent of war is. You don't fight on their terms. So think about it, do something different and fight on your terms

Wait, are you that guy that targeted me when I was shooting at rats in the belt you were mining in and told me to "f* off" (in a low cargo space rifter, as if I would come over to rob you)?

Ore stealing has plenty of threads posted on these forums already. No point in trudging it up here again. The point of this thread was to help us understand what our options are when declared war against by an overpowering corp. So far they have not attacked us yet, despite promises to blockade our section of space (it's in a dead-end area). And if they do, we will probably just dissolve the corp so it is once again illegal to attack our members.
I found this entry in the official EVE knowledge base. So far as I can tell, storing ore in jetcans is considered an exploit. So if anyone is complaining about people stealing ore (I've seen some ore thieves myself but never had to deal with them since we use secure containers) they should read the knowledge base.
Eve Knowledge Base:
Question Why is it so easy to steal ore ? Answer The regular containers were designed to jettison unwanted items into space or to hold loot from blown up ships. They were designed so that any player could take from them because that was essential for them to function as they were intended. Players later invented the "container mining" method after noticing that the containers could hold way more than any cargo hold. This use for the containers was never intended and it has the obvious flaw that any player with a reduced sense of right and wrong can come by and take everything from the container and no one can do anything about it.
The bottom line is: If you use regular containers to store your ore you assume all the risk. Having your valuables floating in space in an unsecured container is equivalent to throwing money on the street. Should you lurk nearby and wait for someone to take the money and then attack him, the police would deal with you, not him. The same goes in Eve. If you attack a player who just took "your" ore from a regular container in a system with a security level of 0.5 or higher. You will be destroyed by Concord.

If you attack a player who just took "your" ore from a regular container in a system with a security level of 0.5 or higher. You will be destroyed by Concord.

Let's look at it from YOUR point of view.. I might drop my money on the street... but I'm going to kick the stuffing out of the cheezbag that picks it up and tries to walk away with it. You've officially lost all sympathy from 99% of the readers ... but I'll give you high marks for "*******" the size of basketballs, you theif ore.. then come and complain on the FORUMS when you get a war declared on you... The option to disband is ALWAYS available if you can't handle a war against a corporation. In light of this fact, your complaint makes no sense whatsoever. Disband the corp, hide or fight.

He wrote the complaint in order to win our hearts with his plea of being a helpless newbie, so we'd make available the wealth of knowledge, good will, and perhaps even a bit of ISK, and tell him exactly what his options are during a war, and how he can avoid its consequences.
It was truly a magnificent piece of fiction, and it had the desired effect up until the point where his real habits were revealed.

Lesson: Don't steal ore if you can't handle the war.

Then when a corp says hold on this is our space, you're trying ask why you have a war on you.. Your quote says it all " our section of space" you don't own it if you cant hold it. So to answer your original question, yes this would be normal in eve.

I just saw this topic and thought id share.
Created a corp 2 weeks ago or so, only 4 members tho, me and the person who set it up have alts. And last night, got an eve mail, basically do the followin, delete your bio or kick your amarr out ( which is the person who i set it up with ) or move out of the system. Only cos my bio is in reference with a different race we get this mail. iam minmatar and my m8 is amarr, so f%%%%%% what. Some people really do take this game to far :) so all i do is delete my bio and were ok, seems stupid to me. but if we was stronger i would have not done this.

What an idiotic statement...
Pirates do not belong in 0.5 to 1.0 space... (Corp wars anyone?)
However, I see no problem with declaring war on anyone you please...
Corp Wars should be the main installment of PvP in this game...
I would not dissolve your corp over this, I'd keep going about your business (If your ore stealing habits are causing you grief, well, uhm, no sympathy from me...), try to get all your corp war enemies in your buddy list, and just watch local... Chances are they will only be using frigates to fight you...
If you have absolutely no desire to defend your corp, then, quite honestly you should not start one in the first place IMHO...
I will say this; it should be more costly for a corp to pick a fight than it currently is, and it should cost even more to back out of that fight if you get "bored" with the war you started...

An ore thief talking about griefing and petitioning because his actions have caused a corp to declare war on him.
It is sort of funny for about a nanosecond, and then you realise the future of this game could well lie in the hands of players like this and their moaning and continual petitioning.

Wow, carebear = idiot. Even if he did all that, which I doubt, all he has to do is drop the corp to someone else and you can't attack him in secure space. Ye gods, if you had a brain, you'd just DO what your whining about and not follow the hollywood example and tell the enemy you are going to attack him.
