Short answer: Yes, it is.
You'll have to be very careful about target selection, get blobbed sometimes, have days when you log off frustrated because you haven't had as single fight. Your kill board stats will be horrible by alliance player standards, and isk will always be an issue if you don't have a money making alt or are very gifted indeed.
But it is doable, and the true "good fights" you find totally make it worth it.
Sidenote: At least in my experience it is easier in smaller ships. Simply because fights take less time between smaller ships and your opponent simply has that much less time to get reinforcements. Also, smaller ships make it easier to force/end an engagement.
But flying smaller ships also means you simply can't engage some possible fights, so you'll have to balance things. |

Smaller stuff has a better balance of survivability and gankitude. The main threat is being caught in a gate camp, and a smaller ship (Cruiser-) has a much better chance of getting away from that, even though you sacrifice by not being able to engage bigger targets. |

Thanks for your answers, guys.
Is it a way to get ISK (as a pirate maybe) or is it a fun thingy only?

You can do it, but it's not super fun. You'll have to wait/look for the perfect target and whatnot.

I've had some success in oms for ceptor/frig 1on1. You gotta be careful tho, a lot of guys will try and blob you. (3vs1 is a blob when you had 1v1 in mind :P) |

It is possible to make isk but not in large amounts. Try cheap ships like T1 frigs/cruisers. Use meta 3/4 modules where they are cheaper than tech 2 ones. Salvage opponents' wrecks. |

I must say, OMS is one of the worst places for a 1v1 unless you specifically ask for one. For that matter so is the Nourv gate in Tama. They are both right beside each fw militia's high sec bases, and a general call in militia for help can be responded to in a matter of seconds.
My advice (to the OP, Unfamed II knows what he's doing), if you want a 1v1, try roaming around the fw systems, find someone in a ship class similar to your own, and ask for a 1v1. Fleet with them, go to a safe spot, duke it out. I haven't had anyone break a 1v1 agreement with me doing that yet.

After logging in to the forum 7 times perhaps this one will post.
Lowsec, Take inty scout 30 systems. You can kill cruisers ratting with just that, if you see a BC or something. If youÆre not fair from your own BC go get it. If not note it. You may find this person ratting here often, add him to buddy list when he logs in head there in BC.
ThatÆs what I always have done until the Sec Status reamp really killed the solo PVPÆers. Thus now me and few friends just wardec random corps and fight them, get a lot of solo kills that way. Was forced in to this route due to the sec change but over all I enjoy it more and itÆs easier.
Keep in mind a 1 member corp, doing a wardec on a 30 member corp expect at least 12 to drop to NPC corp. So do a few at once for more targets. Or if you have a few friends pick ones that have a POS with a ton of labs on it. If they wonÆt fight you at least you made isk off it.

Solo one-ship-against-the-universe is not only possible, but actually very easy.
Unfortunately it has some drawbacks.
You must employ smaller, agile craft that are able to evade gatecamps, as you have no scout. This restricts you to frigates and cruisers.
Odds of interruption during a fight (either from locals or your target's friends) increase dramatically the longer the fight goes on. So if you're in a frigate attempting to chew through a cruiser with 1600mm of plate (or even 800mm)... expect company. Odds are someone will show up unless you've found someone in a very empty system.
If you want a multitude of targets (especially solo targets) you'll have to stay near the pirate hubs. No one wants to travel 18 jumps through Aridia only to find the occasional target you encounter either docks, logs off, or calls in a blob. You'll spend so much more time looking for other players than fighting it gets silly. Even in the Amamake area, when searching for frigate targets, I can sometimes waste two or three hours without a fight.
You can make money... but not much. New characters don't have money and old characters aren't going to pay a ransom for a frigate or cruiser. Most of my targets are T2 fit, with a few new players being T1 (I generally just contract that back to them... and sometimes give them ISK ).
You'd make far more money in a pirate corporation or in 0.0. You'd get far more fights being a member of a blob (0.0/FW).
But if you're looking for challenging situations, like setting your own schedule, enjoy solo roaming and such, then yes, it is easily possible.
Good luck.
NOTE: Your mileage may vary. I enjoy fighting only PvP-fit opponents, and personally dislike station games (though there is absolutely nothing wrong with them). It is these self-imposed conditions which restrict me to smaller craft (both for flying and as targets).

What I've seen in 0.0 is:
Take an interdictor, go to shallow 0.0, get 50KM behind a gate in a system with only 2 gates. As soon as someone jumps in, drop your bubble and move to the front of it exactly where they will drop warp. If they come up on scan as something too nasty for you, u can warp out. If they don't show up on scan, hope they're a nice juice covops or stealthbomber for you to decloak, and not a pilgrim.

Solo PvP is doable, but it's definitely much harder than it used to be before Great Speed Nerf and agility buffs
Perhaps if CCP decides to torture the Carebears next patchs instead of PvPers, we could get local nerf - that would make solo pvp more lively, for sure.

I like to go on solo roaming sojourns in a Harbinger. Again, picking targets is important - I look for solo ratters mostly. A nice juicy Raven is my ideal target. One day I might get lucky and surprise some miners, but I doubt it.
Stealth bombers are now great for cloaky camping a gate and popping haulers. Fit a point and a target painter; I find that two out of three haulers are not stabbed. You can also camp enemy jump bridges, though this is riskier - stay uncloaked too long and the POS will wake up and kill you.

You can get 1 on 1 fights pretty easily, but there's no guarantee that they'll actually stay 1 on 1 fights to the end. People are largely pussies who are not looking for interesting fights where they might lose.
As for wtfexpensiveofficerstuff, the likelihood of situations where you're so evenly matched in skills and loadout that the extra 4% you paid multi-millions for comes into play is negligible.

ftw
and you can actually get alot of kills. You have to be master with directional scanner be able to find anyone in any reachable belt within seconds. your friend is low reaction time from ratters miners.
know your theritory. know how many belts the systems have what belts are scanabile from what gate , if the system has ice belt and so on.
This all are advices considering you will be hunting ratters / miners in 0.0 i do not like low sec or gatecamping/station hugging
GL/hf. PS still not many choices for solo ships...
p.s.2 actually solo or most of pvp (cap excepted ) is never done with wtfpwnofficer/complex/faction stuff. as any pvper with any experience know YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR SHIP.

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 26/06/2009 09:17:18 It's still possible; 4 most ideal ships (imo) are the vagabond, rapier, ishtar and Curse. Neither of them has to 'commit' to a fight (get within 10km) to kill. Vaga and ishtar have a wider target slection, the Rapier is more sneaky and is better 'anti-tackler'. What also works is a shieldbuffer Hurricane, it can take some sentry fire if needed and has enough agility/speed and gank to be VERY dangerous.
If you want smaller (cheaper) ships check out the Jaguar and Ishkur, very decent AF's.
When it comes to solo play it's much more about understanding both your as their strategy, about realising you're about to run into a trap and keeping your eyes (and options) open.

Are you kidding me? Jaguar's with Gistii / Pithii tanks are a massive difference, not to mention Vengeances with Centii / whatever tanks.
Unless of course you only meant the actual faction mods, instead of also deadspace / complex mods.
Special gear will always play a part, the only difference is that one little mistake can cause you to lose them a lot faster than if they were fitted to a Maelstrom or whatever. |

was thinking about my personal experiences, and i mostly fly rifter/claw vs. about same shipclasses
been thinking about trying out a jag soon, tho it's a known to be a tough nut to crack and would propably scare more ppl than a rifter/claw
crystals+jag+faction boosters is cokcteasing would not take crystals to pvp myself tho, much less in a fragile frig (for a frig jag aint fragile tho)

Add Gistii B MWD on the Sader to the list. Totally essential IMO, and pretty cheap. Also, in a gang setting, faction tackle on a Stiletto/ Ares/ Malediction is pretty sweet, especially with RSB's.
I do most of my pimping on ceptors these days TBH, barring some minor faction/ T2 rigging on HACs. As far as I'm concerned, if I'm in a BS, I'm in a RR gang and I will lose or not lose the boat not due to skills but due to the "FW lag" so it's meh fitting anything pimp on them. Re: faction stuff: depends on the item and the ship you're fitting it on.
Some items, like 30km warp disruptors or LG pirate implants can give you a HUGE advantage, and for reasonable amounts of ISK (pod losses are extremely rare in lowsec, and 100 mil for a warp disruptor on a 150+ mil HAC isn't too bad).
Some items, like faction damage mods, give you a tiny advantage for a huge amount of ISK, and are generally just a waste of ISK unless you're rich enough not to care. -----------

Solo pvp is alive and well. Admittedly it's mostly busting someone's mission and roughing them up but you can have consensual 1v1's too. Just whatever you want really. You really need to go to low sec though, too many neutral RR's and gankers in high sec. Low sec is much more clear as anything not blue in system is hostile. |

turbo forums ate my reply so tldr rapier/huginn + 28/30k point = reasonable investment imo
ceptor/frig pvp, you die due to own error mostly, and any amount of isk spent on fittings will not help there

Absolutely. You need balls and a bit of money to replace your losses (at first).
Generally the tactic is to nano out your ship.
In group fleets you can afford a funny fit of half tank / half cannons. But when soloing it's smart to go speed tank, all dmg. Why?
Think about it. The surest way to get out of any number of tight spots is to outrun the enemy. Also, being in a glass cannon helps you take a ship out QUICK. When soloing you want to get the loners and hit 'em fast and hard before they can get their buddies to help 'em out.
With some experience you can pick out the pilots who will panic as soon as you lock them, giving you a huge meta-game advantage. They'll fumble modules, accidentally reload stuff, dumb junk like that. Pilots underestimate meta-game skill wayyy to often.
Before you go out, try to understand a bit about typical turret ranges of other races this will help you learn which ships to avoid. Also look at common fits for your targets. That way when you commit to shooting something you'll know what you're up against.
Minmatar ships excel at solo atm. Of course, with a smart fit you can use any race. Only thing about minnies is that they sip cap (important because of common nos/neut tactics) and they're generally the fastest out of all other ships in their class. |

Pilgrim+Combat probes=win.
Stalk...stalk...stalk...pounce...win .
Of course this means fairly high skills, patience, and the willingness to commit to a fight (or gank) every time. No bailing out if the target has friends suddenly arriving.
The biggest issue (as I see it) with being an outlaw is the complete and utter bull**** known as "local intelligence". Losec has few enough flying around...come into a system...they right click and go "ooo -10 run" and thats that unless they are inattentive prats. At least in hisec you are "hiding in massive local count" so to speak. Local also screws you solo in 0.0.
Now on the other hand...there is wormholes to probe and visit for targets if you don't have access to war decs and dont feel like wrecking your sec/pirate baiting/0.0 alliance blob attracting. No local there .
Oh yeah...you can go play with the various militias in the frigate/cruiser only plex thingy's as well. Personally I found the target loot drops to be crap and FW as whole rather stupid and blob-encouraging so whatever.
Finally...if you are flying Caldari don't bother solo in anything but a Crow .

Use a frigate or cruiser, fit it specially to fight the most common solo ships of that class and hunt those. After a while youll evolve your own stile and setups (and become obsessed with pushing borders )

Sure it is, been soloing for most of my time in Eve for almost three years.
I usually pretty far looking for fights but I don't mind. I use sites like Dotlan maps or Battleclinic to locate the hot spots (not sure how current they are) or simply open the map and look for the big orange splotch on the map and head that way.
Since I do roam pretty far my ship class of choice is a frigate either wolf/jag/ishkur or ranis.
The way I figure it anyone can fly as part of a gang, if you make a mistake in that situation it may still turn out pretty good. Otoh if you make a mistake while soloing your ship ends up a nice burning wreck. Plus it's always fun to be killed by 10 or more folks flying ships that are several classes above your own.

Been soloing since day one, although my first few fights where suicidal.
Currently at -5.67 and climbing, with about 12 kills, and about as many deaths.
Haven't had a problem finding fights either.
On another note I was wondering, for those players who like to solo, if a solo corp would be of interest?
It wouldn't offer anything but the chance to chat with other like minded players, while hunting ofc. Btw just because it's a "solo" corp doesn't mean members are restricted to flying solo.
Just because you fly solo doesn't mean you have to fly alone.
Just a thought.

Pimping out something like a Pilgrim, Curse or Rook is effective - but your losses tend to hurt and some targets will run as soon as they see you on scan. The alternative is to get a stack of cheap, mobile ships like T1 frigates or cruisers, insure them, and just go out and look for fights.
Particularly useful for getting fights is to fly an under-rated ship like a Moa or Caracal. Picking your targets is as important as it ever was - juicy, vulnerable targets like AFs are the pick of the crop in lowsec. You'll pop plenty of times - but the AFs and Taranisesei that you do kill will more than make up for this. Unfortunately, the AML Caracal is becoming better known now. |

I have been PVPing two weeks now on this char (2 month old char, got rid of my old char).
Apart from SP, I have all the knowledge of a long term player, I have about a kill a day solo. The trick is not to get bored and get gun-ho about it. Looking around systems next to hisec is always good, quite often find ratters in there. You just need a bit more common sense and patience, I find it quite rewarding, nice rush to know you've noone to blame and noone to fall back on.

Solo PvP is still possible, you just have to learn to accept a couple facts:
(1) The best solo PvP ships and setups can be very expensive (HAC's, Recons, Interceptors). (2) You will lose a lot of ships, regardless of what you fly and a lot of them will be frustrating losses to people who bait and blob.
Either you have to accept that a lot of your fights are going to end in your death OR you have to start being extremely selective and patient about what you engage (which is boring). It's not dead, its just not easy.

(1) The best solo PvP ships and setups can be very expensive (HAC's, Recons, Interceptors).
This is flat out wrong not to mention ignorant.

Yes solo pvp is still around,
Noobs in ravens, with rubbish fits, Drakes in low sec, ratting,
Just get plenty of firepower on a ship, and have fun.

I dunno. I actually get a lot better results solo than I do in fleets. Having a covops alt has a lot to do with it, but actual good fights are pretty rare and seem to occur with the same frequency regardless of gang size.
So I'm left with mostly ganks, and I have yet to be in a fleet that's not so damn slow it makes me want to rip my hair out and start screaming on Vent (or EvE voice). When it takes 2-3 minutes to cross a system and five minutes to gank someone in a belt because you have to coordinate a bunch of people almost all the targets seem to get away.
So I fly mostly solo. There's a few people I'll fleet with and I'll corp ops, of course, but that's about it. My KB is in pretty good shape so I'd say it works.

Most solo PvP is gone. Fewer people are ratting in belts and in general people are learning several anti-pirate tactics to prevent most interruptions. Local is generally watched like a hawk, pre-alignment during mining is common, and people running missions are now pulling the rat groups far away from the mission warp-in point.
This is good for the community, and something my old corp used to strive to help with. General survivability improvement. This is bad for the 1v1er because it's making things difficult for individual wolves.
However, I want to state that so far most of the forum posts and in-game chats I have revolve around pirates looking for the easy kill. Idiots and rookies, in my opinion. A lot of people in low-sec are mission running, plexing, or mining from a scanned out area. Work for it. Get an expanded probe launcher, learn how to use it in combination with your directional scanner, and you will start finding a tremendous amount of targets for 1v1.
It's abundant. It's viable. But since the community has learned and improved upon their day-today tactics the pirate community also has to adapt their hunting methods. A shame, I feel, to see the pirates fall behind on new tactics and motivations. -------------------

Edited by: Trinity Nova on 01/07/2009 21:27:45 The most thrilling part for me is the moment leading up to the kill.
Sometimes it's the cat and mouse game between two veteran pilots chasing each other around until one of you finally makes a mistake. Sometimes it's reading your opponents mind knowing what move they are about to make then countering it. Or one of the most satisfying things is to "talk" your opponent into one sided conversation where you come out on top. Of course the kill is icing on the cake but it's the whole process that a lot of us have come to appreciate.
Then there's the downside, 1v1 that turns into 1 v many, or long periods without a fight, no one to talk to or brag to about your latest adventure. And the list goes one.
So far I haven't had any issues finding fights. It seems that all fights with a new character have some quality to them.
