So child ****ography should be freely accessible? Yes I know the argument is used to often, but i get kinda bored with all the people saying everything should be allowed because it is the internet. And no i cant agree with this law, but like it or not, the internet needs to be regulated.
Damn straight it needs to be regulated, by parents not the government.
The parents should not have room to ***** about little timmy going to pron sites, it is their responsibility to supervise the kid not the government.
And as for that argument you constantly hear"I cant watch him all the time", fine, learn about computers, get a site blocker and check the kid's history.
I find it horribly convenient that every person neglects to mention all the site blockers in existence at the moment, hell most are even free!
Lastly, I am against censorship of the internet, sure it should adhere to the laws within somebodies country(ie dont submit child pron, beastiality and whatever) but it should not be touched, because unfortunately it is one of the last free forums where one can trade knowledge and views left on this planet.

So before the internet what where the other free forums where one could trade knowledge and views? Libraries don't count because they still exist. ---------- This post brought to you by the worst PVP'er in Eve |

LOLstralia at it once again. Soon the government will ban swimming to 'protect the children', then they'll just cut the net, force everyone to stay at home and post a copper in your house, because you never know what could go wrong and what you might do or show your children. Then they'll cut TV, prohibit books and newspaper.
What's funny is how many people actually go along with extreme fascism as long ast it's about PROTECTING THE CHILDREN!!!

This is why it's under attack by our, so called, Western governments who want to regulate it so they can protect themselves from their own citizens.

Well the bookstore chooses what books you can obtain through them so I wouldnt call that free.
Before the internet you had either debates between grown men in tophats(lol) or protest, unfortunately the latter of which wasn't always a good idea(see what the cops were doing to protesters in 60s-70s).
Hell look at our news, all of it is now simply opinion, without the internet I am very doubtful I would know half the stuff I know right now.

Originally by: Mara Rinn 3) Stephen Conroy wants to make it illegal to sell or procure games that are RC 4) Games that are not classified, are RC by default 5) Games that have no rating due to online interaction are not classified (which therefore means? that's right, they're RC)
On point 3:
It already is illegal to sell games that are Refused Classification in Australia. Australian law works on the "No Supply, No Problem" mentality, as an example it is illegal to knowingly sell or supply cigarettes to anyone under 18, however there is no law that explicitly forbids anyone under 18 from smoking, so so long as they follow all other smoking laws it is perfectly legal for a 6 year old to chain-smoke in public or private home. The Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) has jurisdiction over all media sold inside Australia. if the sale is not made in Australia then the OFLC has no power. Games like Leisure Suit Larry: Magna ****Laude were illegal to sell in Australia because they were Refused Classification, but it was perfectly legal to import them as the sale occurred outside of Australia.
on point 4:
Not True. Media that is not classified is precisely that: Not Classified. Refused Classification means that the publisher has gone through the formal process of classification and has failed to meet classification criteria, it is then given Refused Classification status. The books and scripts that I'm writing that are sitting on my hard drive have not been classified that does not make them illegal. Refused Classification has legal ramifications. Not classified has none.
Further it is legal to sell some media (mostly books and magazines) without having it classified by the OFLC if it is not "likely to be classified X 18+ and [or] likely to be classified RC." Flash game like Peggle are unlikey to be Refused Clssification and so do not need to be classified if they were sold inside Australia.
On point 5:
Australia makes no distinction between "online" an "offline" content; published content is published content. If a player in an online game start swearing and abusing players then that is something the player has brought to the game, not content from the publisher, the game does not contain the abusive players "content". If a character in the game starts swearing and being abusive then that is game content and so is classifiable. This is why mods (including nude/sex mods) are legal in Australia; because they are not part of the published content of the game.
If the server the sale is made on is contained within Australian territory then Australian law applies and the OFLC has jurisdiction. If the server is outside Australia then the OFLC has no jurisdiction and is powerless to stop the sale.
If the server for online games (like EVE) or for game selling websites (like playasia.com) or even ****ographic websites (sorry no example for you ) are located outside of Australia then under current Australian legislation Stephen Conroy and his cronies are powerless to stop them as it is illegal to sell their content but not illegal to import it.
And for those people saying "Th3 INt3RwEbs should be free" please . The internet is hosted on Servers; these servers are hosted in countries; these countries have laws that all companies most follow. Why should I be allowed to publish something on the internet that's illegal to publish in books or on film? The internet is simply another form of media and so all media related legislation is binding. |
