Hammerhead II x5
Compared (all all lvl V eft, but yours need implant): Brutix - myrm 43k EHP - 50k EHP 860 dps - 703 dps 965 dps - 762 dps (overloaded, yes you can get 1000 dps with brutix with better ammo)
Yes your myrm has more tackle and ewar also, brutix is faster, and half the price tag (use shield resistance rigs if it makes you feel warm and cozy). And additionally it has the lol-brutix factor.

Note that using a Hybrid Burst Aerator II, you get a whopping 40 DPS more... which is significantly impressive for only 70 mil.
Not probably the best way to go, but great if you're going to hull tank anyway ;)

Once again demonstrating why you need to stop buying GTCs as a substitute for skill. Only you would think that spending 70 mil on one rig for a T1 battlecruiser (typical price, fully fitted: 50 mil) is anything other than painfully stupid.
edit: especially when you can't even bother spending a tiny fraction of that price on getting a best-named web. Hell, the T1 rigs are more expensive than that web.
PS: your entire idea is almost as bad. The shield buffer fit posted earlier is far, far better, but the Myrmidon is still a pretty poor ship. ==========

You'd get significantly more than +40 DPS if you spent that 70 mil on a pair of faction MagStabs. You'd get even more DPS and range by dropping the blasters and fitting T2 Pulse with Scorch.
Unbonused Lasers really are that much better than a T2 hybrid rig with unbonused blasters.

It's easy to make fun of a hull tanked ship and there are definitely standard myrm fits that are very effective but I found this fitting quite interesting for a few reasons. The big deal is that it has 50k EHP without sacrificing mid slots, damage, signature radius or a lot of isk. There's also an interesting surprise factor in having 32k EHP in your hull. In a typical small skirmish, think about the physchology of your enemy when they come up against that. Nobody's going to break off an attack when you are almost into hull, even if you're doing a lot of damage. When your shield and armour fold up relatively quickly, they'll expect you're in a complete gank fit and that once they hit your hull you're essentially dead. If it's used cleverly, a hull tanked gank ship might actually prove both effective and cost-effective.
The shield tanked version posted earlier actually does slightly more DPS and is faster but it costs a LOT more, uses up a mid slot and has poorer EHP. Using the same mids as siigari's original fit, a technically better version is a simple armour tanked one:
[Myrmidon, siigari copy 2] Damage Control II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II 800mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Small Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Cap Booster 200 Balmer Series Targeting Inhibitor I, Tracking Speed Disruption 10MN MicroWarpdrive I 'Langour' Drive Disruptor I Faint Warp Disruptor I
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
Trimark Armor Pump I Trimark Armor Pump I Trimark Armor Pump I
Ogre II x2 Hammerhead II x2 Hobgoblin II x1
Note that while this gets 55k EHP (38k of which is in armour) and increased DPS over siigari's hull fit, trimarks are very expensive compared to hybrid rigs. The hull tanked one will be better if you plan to lose a bunch of them. In that case, tech 2 rigs definitely aren't worth it. Also not sure you'd need the cap injector, you can easily drop it for another web or even another tracking disruptor if you swap the T2 damage control for best named and use a -3% turret CPU implant in slot 10. Alternatively, if you can live with having a short range scrambler, you can swap the injector for a sensor booster, drop the two algid rigs and fit a damage rig to gain that extra 40 DPS back.
Of course this all means squat if it doesn't perform well in actual PvP. Would be an interesting ship to try out, let me know how it performs.

Allow me to introduce a competing Hull tanked Myrm:
Damage Control II Gyrostab II 4x Reinforced Bulkhead II
10MN MWD I Warp Disruptor II Faint Epsilion Scram ** Langour Web ** Or different ewar like tracking disruptor ** Medium Cap Injector II ** Or different ewar like tracking disruptor
6x 425mm AC II
2x Projectile Ambit rigs 1x Projectile Burst rig
2x Ogre II 2x Hammerhead II 1x Hobgoblin II
591 dps -> 633 overheated @ 1.5 + 13km Same tank Much wider engagement range, which is crucial because you're going 813 m/s.
EMP does em/kin/exp and drones do thermal a nice omni attack.
Capless attack - the cap injector essentially lets you keep the tackle when you're neuted, if that's not too much of a concern then you can add some ewar like tracking disruptors, or sensor boosters.
What do you think?

I told them exactly why they shouldn't wardec eve uni, but does anyone listen to me...
and not a chance I would fly a ship like that into battle against eve uni, mostly for the reasons I said not to wardec eve uni. isn't rule number 1 of flying a blaster ship thou shall not fly a blastership into the middle of a blob full of ecm?

I am pretty confident that a proper armor tanked myr will beat your setup in virtually every aspect from dps over buffer to speed.
There is also nothing "out of the box" or *gasp* "unique" about it. Good players have already considered it (and hull tanks in general) but found that both shield and armor tanked versions are better by far. I can also cram 200mm plates on my maelstrom and claim to be unique. That wouldn't make it any less stupid/noobish.
Usually if people have stupid ideas i just give them better advice without actually pointing out how stupid they are. But as always your trolling/bragging worked on me and i couldn't resist... *arrrg* curse you --

each one has a different role, honestly I'd probably fly the armor tanked one most of the time. but the shield one, without the td and with an invlun II, would be best if you have a scimitar around. and for various roaming ops, the agility comes in handy. not only is it faster but reaches speed faster.

True, it's only about 15m more expensive in rigs for the shield and 30m more expensive for the armoured version. But I think you're overstating the cost of the ship and mods significantly. Myrmidon's cost about 35m and the modules can't be over 20m total. After accounting for insurance, the cost of losing an unfitted and insured 35m myrmidon is about 7m, so saving 15 to 30m on rigs does make sense.
They do all have different roles to play in PVP. A shield tanked fit might be nice for a roaming gang, the armoured one is pretty standard and the hull tanked one is unexpected and can have a predictable psychological effect on the enemy. I'd have to agree with the earlier sentiments in the thread though that the Brutix tends to outclass the Myrm in all practical senses. You can get roughly the same EHP and more DPS out of a brutix while being faster and without mixing drone sizes. Even a standard plated brutix with no rigs or hybrid rigs does about the same and I know from experience they're very effective in PVP. When it had its drones nerfed instead of its turrets, the Myrmidon just became an expensive brutix.

I just prefer utilizing a ship's bonuses, the shield buffer fit is just too expensive and I prefer having a cap injector and web. The 280+ DPS tank isn't too shabby either, especially as you'll have more EHP than a non-rigged shield buffer fit. Sure, it'd be stupid to put armor rigs on a BC as you'd then be much better off with a BS, but to be fair I don't feel that the Myrm merits the investment in shield rigs for that matter.

Well as I and Nyphur both said earlier, it's a great fit for suprising people in small gang situations. I'm about to use it in a war where the targets are using mostly Ion Dominixes (with Guardian support) and I'm going to be interested to see how it fares running figure eights around the war targets.
The sole problem I am going to encounter are drones, but that's to be expected. Also, to post in regards to a Brutix, I already attempted to make a Brutix setup out of this... the Myrmidon was superior in all regards:
[Brutix, Hull Tank] Reinforced Bulkheads II Reinforced Bulkheads II Reinforced Bulkheads II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Damage Control II
10MN MicroWarpdrive I Warp Disruptor II Stasis Webifier II Balmer Series Targeting Inhibitor I
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Hammerhead II x5
Problem with this setup is you can't rig it, because the grid is packed super tight. So that tiny buffer the Myrmidon has against the Brutix in grid allows for a damage augmentation.
Anyway, numbers:
839m/s 680 DPS standard, 758 overload ~ 1 minute 47k EHP, 11.9k in hull.
It's not bad, but it's not fantastic either.

Hmm, taking a Brutix up against a fleet of RR Dominixes, you will be primary due to the fact most Brutixes do quite a lot of damage with rather tragic EHP. Despite your slight bit more tank you will still die horribly especially since the Dominixes will probably use Ogres or Berserkers and Berserkers will be able to keep up with your abysmal speed. Your better off taking a Dominix of your own and actually contributing to your fleet

Way to show off your lack of knowledge on the myrm. However, you might want to consider a few things, first of all; I now have one of those annoying sigs. second; you should probably move on to some more interesting things than reading this sig.

Myrm has 75m3 bandwidth, not 50. I'll leave you to try and figure out the rest

Originally by: Siigari Kitawa Well as I and Nyphur both said earlier, it's a great fit for suprising people in small gang situations.
Actually, if you drop a few neutrons to ions, you can fit those damage rigs and get about 760DPS out of the Brutix, 850 overloaded. Or a faster armour plated version with hybrid rigs and all ions can get 740 DPS, 828 overloaded. I wish the myrm was better in pvp than the brutix but it's really not. Almost anything the myrm can do, the brutix can do better. The only real exception I've ever found to that rule is recharge-based passive tanking, in which the myrmidon can get almost as good a tank as a drake (same DPS tanked at peak but poorer HP and if it drops below 32% it'll go splat much faster).

Hold that thought because i'm going to take the time to explain to you all of the many, many ways in which that is wrong.
First, you do realize you're not actually going to be surprising anyone, right? 2-3 years ago, surprise hull tank, sure, but only when you used on a viable ship such as a dominix. Ya know, a ship which has enough natural shield+armor buffer that your "psych warfare" lolbs is actually possible? On a ship which is actually capable of achieving a decent amount of Structure EHP, thus is capable of tricking someone with a surprise structure tank?
Second, that P.O.S. vs a Dominix? Dude you should be worried about how it would fare against stabber, or caracal, hell even an AF.
Here's how your latest idea in what is an impressively long list of terrible ideas, would work if you actually had the courage to fight anyone with a clue:
fight starts Your shield evaporates. Way to fast for you to be shield tanked...Too quickly for your opponent to have time to even notice you even had shields to begin with much less wonder if you were shield tanked. your armor evaporates. It also melted too quickly for you to be armor tanked or for him to even consider it a possibility either. At this point his initial thoughts are, he assumes you are entirely unfit. You're in structure...surprise!...Oh wait..Your structure's got as much EHP as a Moa. ie the "surprise!" part lasts long enough for you to type "surprise!" in local, just before... You explode. At this point, the shields on the T1 cruiser which just housed your myrm regen back up from 90% shields.
And yes, my third point is a continuation of my second, that your fail ship would lose to pretty much anything. If I had to guess I'd say I could take it 1v1 with a catalyst. This is only possible because you are truly, truly terrible at eve, incapable of understanding the most basic premises of how this game works, so you've opted for using blasters on ship capable of being kited by anything as fast or faster than a mwd battleship, which is, oh yeah every sub-capital ship in the game.
Against my better judgement I'm going to help you out. The key is, and pay attention because this is the really important bit, in order to "trick" someone, they have to be able to: 1. notice the situation/conditions you've manipulated in order to trick them 2. make assumptions based on that information 3. take action based on that faulty information 4. suffer consequences due taking said actions
You've got a hull tanked myrmidon. First of it's many problems is, your myrm has the standard amount of myrmidon ehp, actually it's got less than an armor tanked one, which is lulz in and of itself, but I digress. There's nothing special about your myrm, you've simply got the bulk of what is the average myrm EHP amount in Hull instead of shields or armor. Now this means you've got virtually no EHP anywhere else. Your shield's EHP is less than the EHP of a Punisher. your armor EHP is less than a Blackbird.
That means your shields and Armor simply do not last long enough for your attacker to complete step #1 above. More importantly, even if he was "tricked", you're missing Step #4. Your myrmidon has nothing special going on, in fact it's less than special since it has less EHP than a regular old armor tanked myrm, much less a bait tanked one with dual 1600plates or something. Any ship which would engage you assumes his ship can kill a myrm. You're big "surprise!" is that he is right, he can beat you. Your epic setup has less EHP than he was expecting, not to mention it's an immobile brick meaning you'll be dealing nada dps to him. The only "surprise" with your setup is how surprisingly easy it will be to kill.

Edited by: NeoNeTiC on 30/06/2009 22:31:17 I don't like hull tanked ships below BS size but a hull tanked Navy Mega or other faction BS is major win sauce since people will primary it and stay on grid just to see it go poof (which it hopefully won't).
Other than that: I'd not cripple a Myrm to make it perform underwhelming compared to its normal fits.
The weirdness is fun though. :o

I wouldn't take fitting advice from anyone who lost two deadspace fitted tech 3 ships in a week.

I would. It's just more a question of how they were lost.
As for these buffer/dps Myrmi's.. The only one remotely attractive in my eyes would be the shield myrmi, but I'd still consider AC's or Pulses over Blasters on it. And tbh, the more I think about it, the more attractive a regular HAM Drake gets. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |
