This one just came into my head, been using it for a few "tryout" chars, to see which race I liked it most with, and Amarr looked best.
I try and go for 2 names as my first char only has 1 short name, and I dislike it :(

I wanted to use this character to spy on the Gallente militia.
Then i found out i needed standings to join them and could not be bothered anymore.
I am full of fail and couldn't fight my way out of a wet paper douchebag if i wanted to.

Keep punching random letters in google until it yields no result.
And voila you have a unique name - after a while a lot of hits on Google with your nick and you can say they are all copycats :)
Yes my name yielded 0 results on google when TQ went online :D

A bit like Bob the Builder but better looking, didn't get to choose what this character was called, I generally use Jonkai or Jonkain for my main names and Gallente sounding for my alts, will keep them quiet though

I use the German version of funny phrases to make it sound more authoritative, my wife's nicknames, or sapphic innuendos when choosing char names.

Make it sound as stupid as possible, right from the beginning. This way there's no possibility it will ever become tedious for you. Plus many people will think it's really cool.
Extra points are awarded by making it unpronouncable for english speakers

played SWG back in the day and after 3 frustrating hrs of "soffy that char name has been taken" i got fed up with this **** and then it hit me where dose **** go and a quick misspelling and a space later we have a name it took. (unfortunatly not very many people actualy get it  )

My name used to be Aurevoir Counard. Which combined the words goodbye and A**hole in french. Well of course as usual some (female sexual organ located between the legs) must have been offended by it cause they have nothing better to do, and the (male sexual organ located in the lower abdominal area) must have complained. Thus I log in one day and low and behold I am now....... Gallente Citizen1166.
Thank you ccp and thank you un-named stranger who ruined my name to you I (stand up turn around drop pants bend over and blast a wet one in your direction)

You couldn't use hyphens or any other squiggly for the names, so I had to settle for this.
Yet you can use mixed settings and numbers...

Since we'll all be speaking Esperanto by the time we colonize space, I figured I'd get a jump on it.
When my main started he randomly picked a minor character from a favorite book, not realizing the character naming was persistent long-term. There should be an "Are you really sure you want to see that p.o.s. name every day for 5 years or more??"

I just couldn't believe this name was not taken when I created this character a few months ago. Plus, Eve is such a cool girl's name too!

I text one of those numbers that sends you a text back and tells you what your pron star name is. thus swift was born. found it funny and been using it ever since. unless its taken then i alter it.

I sit staring at the textbox for about 20 minutes, trying to think of something nice. Then I get ****ed, and mash the keyboard. Finally, I insert/delete a few letters into the mess from the keyboard-mashing episode so it resembles something name-like.

I have a talent for making up names. I often take a general direction, and start brainstorming. For example, I found 'Ricotez' to sound really Spanish. 'Ferdio' was taken from 'Ferdinand', which I found to not sound scifi enough for EVE.
